Hi all,

I thought I'd start a thread for KS4 applications for Brit School as my daughter has her workshop and interview this week and I know we will both be anxiously waiting to here afterwards!

She's applying for Film and Media production strand as is really passionate about working within the film industry..

We have no idea what to expect at the workshop and interview at all!

good luck to anyone else there this week!

Hi all, my DD had workshop and interview for dance strand this week. She is trained commercial/Jazz dancer and said the workshop was VERY contemporary based and found it challenging. We knew it would be contemporary style, so not much we could do about that. I think she did as well as she could. I said as long as she was following the steps/moves, they will know who can dance/has potential etc. She did not seem confident about it however and was a bit disappointed. It’s a shame because she is such a good dancer in her field and picks up routines easily. Hoping they could see that.

The interview on the other hand went well and I was really proud of the way she answered. We had practiced/role played quite a bit at home and they asked most of the questions we thought they would, however, it seemed to go so quickly, not sure if that’s a good or bad sign. We were also asked to bring a piece of school work to the interview but they never asked to see it. Did anyone else get this?
DD academics is strong, really good Y8 report/exam results & attendance/punctuality is 100%. Also had a glowing reference from the head of year, so I am hoping with all that in the mix, they consider everything, not just the workshop. We are also in catchment.
Now the waiting game 😬🤞

Does anyone know when we might hear?

Zanthe · 24/02/2024 08:30

@Josey82 We were told we’d hear by Mid March. Fingers crossed they see your DD’s potential and trainability. I think her good academic standards will go hugely in her favour as they are very proud of their GCSE result at Brit. x

@Zanthe thank you! That’s what we are hoping 🤞
Sending all good vibes to your DC and the MT decision. Glad it’s not too long a wait for us all x

Hey guys,

My daughter was lucky enough to get offered a place in the music strand for september 23 !!

I just wanted to wish you all good luck, it's so nerve racking, more so for the parents I think.

We were out of area applicants which was extra scary as only 2 spots per strand.

If you have any questions I'm more than happy to answer 🥰

Sounds very tricky! My dd commented how the dance/music strands etc must be much trickier on the day! FMP they had to submIt work before interview (nothing to take on the day) - but it wasn't easy work and I've no idea how hers would compare to anyone else her age. She dosn't have any actual training at all in photography or film so really hard to know! Our interview felt very quick too.. she spoke a lot but hadn't practised before but answered as well I would expect any teen to answer i hope!
She asked at the end about when she would hear and they said to her 4 weeks - but others have led me to believe it could be more like 2-3 xx

@Rochestemum Well done to your daughter and thanks for joining the thread. How is your daughter getting on there? Does she love it?

Do you know if the yeses and noes hear at the same time? I would think the yeses would hear first but from last year’s thread it looked like the noes were told first.

Oh she absolutely loves it ! It's a long day, she leaves home at 6am and doesn't get home till 8pm ! But wow her confidence has grown, she has made some lovely friends from all the different strands and is coming on leaps and bounds academically and studies music 5 hours a week plus extra singing lessons in-between so she is in her element.

It felt like last year different strands heard at different times. We had our interview/performance on the 1st of March and heard on the 5th of April by email.

You do find out either way. I had to re read the email a thousand times and we didn't tell her till she got home from school.... We asked if she could help us oldies reply to an email, so she sat down annoyed at us for not knowing what we were doing and burst out crying !

We honestly didn't think she would get in as we were told by the head of year that the chances were slim due to the amount of out of area applicants.

She knows of a few children in her year that once there realised the school wasn't for them and they left after a couple of weeks.

It's very different.

Xxx

that is a long day! but good on her for managing that. We would be happily on a reserve list as live pretty close - so if others change their mind we'd grab a place. A friends daughter was on the reserve list for music (post 16) and got a call the day before term started!!
What does she find the main differences are school wise??? my daughter is home schooling for year 9 as wasn't enjoying her secondary school and we moved house anyway but she's very sociable so misses other kids in her school day for sure. .. Brit feels the perfect fit for her so everything crossed!

Just how chilled it is there. For example her maths teacher offers croissants and blankets at the start of the lesson 🤣

I've got everything crossed for you ! It's such a rollercoaster for them and us ! X

@Rochestemum Croissants and blankets in maths sound good! I can’t imagine why some kids decided that wasn’t for them! I wonder why they left?

Hi, my dd1 had her interview last week for theatre. Not even a week later and I’m hopeful everytime my email pings! 🙈

I’ve heard it’s a 4-6 week wait to find out, it’s going to be a long long March 😂

This sounds so familiar - definitely going to be the longest month ever!

anyone else go for VAD? DD had workshop and interview last week - so hard to tell how it went though. She thinks the workshop went ok, but the interview she was a nervous wreck so while she answered all the questions well enough, she thinks there was loads more she could have said.

@GreenPombear It’s so long to wait, isn’t it! I keep looking at my calendar every day and thinking, “How is STILL February?!” I was hoping for more chat in this thread, tbh, just to keep me going! 😂

Heard that my daughter got a place for Dance yesterday! Filled in all the application pack and acceptance forms but haven’t got any email back from them…. Is that other people’s experience? Am I just too keen?

Looking at their calendar KS4 finished on 20th for half term and then there were auditions on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week. It's half term until 8th March so I wonder if that's when we'll start hearing from?

@Gemmad88 Congratulations to your daughter!
