Has anyone received any news from G&L or PHS yet?
Spent my day refreshing my mailbox..

Happy to hear I am not the only one!

Dallasdays · 05/01/2023 17:28

Thank you + congrats to others with interviews too. I really liked the school

QuiteAJourney · 05/01/2023 17:32

@Daydreamscometrue someone in another thread claimed that their DC was a sixth former that had helped and that 900 sat stage 1.
The numbers for second round are definitely lower than I expected and a bit surprising taken into account that IPS usually gets quite a lot of rejections... but it would be great if that is the case!

OP posts:
Asham · 05/01/2023 17:36

900 applied.

QuiteAJourney · 05/01/2023 17:39

This is the thread on IPS I mentioned above
www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4690066-ibstock-place-applicants-vs-places-offered
There is a reference to 70-80 places that I remember seeing in the website but that might be from other years.

Daydreamscometrue · 05/01/2023 17:43

@asham and @QuiteAJourney That's quite a reduction from 900 to 200. Guessing they'll over offer?

For those who sat Emanuel exams, what did your children think of maths paper? DS who sat 11+ said he didn't do the last question - it was hard.

My dd said the last two questions were easy, but the second to last page had a tricky one, with no numbers. She managed to figure it out in the end. The last two she said were easier ones like they put at the beginning of the test and I remember the Emanuel mocks the last two were simple fractions, but before that was a tricky question (both mocks were like that) so I remember telling my dd if she gets stuck on a tricky one towards the end, move on and answer the last two, which might be easier and according to my dd it was like that. Do you think your ds is referring to the one with no numbers? If he was not able to do it, I am sure it is fine if he accurately answered the other ones. My worry w dd is she gets over confident and then might make silly mistakes on the easier questions.....she has done that in mocks. I keep reminding her that she must slow down and do all the work, not take short cuts and make silly mistakes....focus.

That is what I find surprising - Even with only 50 places (maybe they have more staying than before and/or they have to compensate for a previous bumper year) I would expect them to offer 120 or more ... at least in our prep indie their past acceptance rate in the last years has been around 1/3

if they got 900 applicants for 50 places the ratio is the highest of all schools I am aware of!

OP posts:
Asham · 05/01/2023 17:52

I agree, the numbers are surprising. It was the receptionist that gave the info out. She was reluctant to put me through to admissions.

SamPoodle123 · 05/01/2023 17:55

Congratulations everyone who made it to the next round for C. No word from Putney or G&L. I assume it will be tomorrow, which is what I always suspected, as last year it was a Friday (the 7th I believe). And someone said G&L sent it on Friday last year as well. Tomorrow, I need to keep myself really busy!!!

Daydreamscometrue · 05/01/2023 17:55

@Asham I wonder why she was reluctant? It's a long time from December until February.

Yikes - no email from Claremont yet (but one of her friends has got invited to interview) - does that mean she hasn't got through or do the emails come in drips and drabs?

Asham · 05/01/2023 17:58

I think with all the different parents calling through for various things she had probably been told not to put us through.

The admissions department at IBS is not the friendliest from my experience.

Daydreamscometrue · 05/01/2023 17:55

I have heard before that the IPS admissions is... peculiar

On a related matter, I found, still on the website, a reference to the fact that they usually have 80-90 places at 11+ for external candidates
www.ibstockplaceschool.co.uk/senior-school/admissions/admissions-process/

The 900 applications make more sense in that context ... but taking 200 people to second stage seems even more strange!

When I tried calling Ibstock’s admissions, I wasn’t allowed to be directed to them.

Thanks @BlueTick - fingers crossed! I won't tell her now just in case (and she has an interview tomorrow that may end up being her only one so hopefully she'll get through that so we get one offer at least!)

Can any of the parents whose DD sat SPGS let me know what date you got notified that they were through to second round (so I have it for next year when DD sits it!) I remember people posting on this thread, but can't remember when it was. Thanks!

A week after the exam

QuiteAJourney · 05/01/2023 18:16

@EweCee good luck for tomorrow - hope it goes well!

elevenplusmum22 · 05/01/2023 18:19

Good luck @EweCee it may be worth contacting them tomorrow. Everything crossed for you.

knopka · 05/01/2023 18:27

@EweCee We also didn't have an email from Claremont so you are not the only one.
But either way we will know by 6 pm tomorrow at least.
Has anyone been invited to a scholarship interview at Claremont?
