Does anyone have stats on Ibstock? Applicants at 11+ vs numbers asked back for 2nd round vs offers? Thank you

Bump for you. My ds is at ibstock but not sure on stats you're looking for.

Would the school Admissions officer be able to gave you this information or do they keep it close to their chest?

Allsnotwell · 03/12/2022 13:27

Well you can ask formally for the info - under a data request - they have to send it to you in 25 days

LondonMum20222 · 03/12/2022 13:35

Lots of chat about this on the SW London 11+ thread (it's been over the past day or so if you scroll back): www.mumsnet.com/talk/secondary/4643252-sw-london-girls-private-grammar-applying-for-year-7-in-2023?page=29&reply=122001650

I have dc in Ibstock Sixth form who helped out on exam day. They told me that 900 (used to be c.600 in previous years) sat the 11 plus exam first round this year but I’m not sure how many go through to 2nd round. They tend to have 100-125 places each year, including those from the Prep School though.

QuiteAJourney · 03/12/2022 16:04

@GandTtime thanks so much for sharing. My DD passed the first round so this is most useful. I think the website talks about some 80 places for external ... which tallies with what you mention.
Our indie usually sends quite a few kids and have commented on how (increasingly) popular it is... which does not surprise me (we really like it!)

Daydreamscometrue · 03/12/2022 16:37

Given that the interview was technically the group experience, I imagine they've probably invited back around 500

QuiteAJourney · 03/12/2022 16:46

@Daydreamscometrue , that would be quite a large number but, on the other hand, it could make sense to think of reducing to half between round 1 and round 2, and then reducing by half between round 2 and offers (assuming that offers are 2-3 times the actual number of places).

Daydreamscometrue · 03/12/2022 16:53

@QuiteAJourney good point. Maybe 400

Vista123 · 03/12/2022 20:58

So my DD sat Surbiton last Sat (8.30am drop off) and Ibstock in the afternoon (4.30pm pick up). It was not fun for her or for me. Yesterday I received rejections from them both, despite her being in the final stages of a scholarship application for Surbiton. DD is at an indie prep but I didn’t extra tutor her as didn’t and still don’t think it was the right thing for her. DD is devastated about Ibstock as really loved it (me less so I must admit).
We have other irons in the fire but I honestly think all of this academic selection for SW London indie senior schools is completely over the top. Where do the academically average (& not over tutored) children end up going - without having to get on a train or bus for an hour per day? DD already has a specialist place at a Wandsworth state school as she is gifted in one area and I honestly feel like sending her there, saving myself £7k per term and retiring early.

Rant over. Best of luck to you all as I know you all (like me) just want the best for your DC.

No, they don't. Ibstock is an independent school, so does not have to respond to Freedom of Information requests. The information requested is not the OP's personal data, so a subject access request wouldn't get anywhere either. They may be willing to answer the question but they don't have to.

sunshinesupermum · 04/12/2022 00:17

Save your money Vista I m sorry your daughter is devastated 😢. My elder DD was at Ibstock many years ago before they had a 6th form. I find it hard to believe it is so popular now. It must have improved immensely since our time!

Schoolgate225 · 08/12/2022 21:32

@sunshinesupermum I’m a current parent of 3DC and am very happy to say it has! It’s a fabulous school, developing steadily and we are very happy with it

Good to hear Schoolgate225!

Hello, resurrecting this thread to hopefully get some insight into second round applicants and whether all are offered a place or WL. Do Ibstock send out some straight no's after the second round?
