I think DD wore school uniform to KGS as she went back to school afterwards.
I think 'smart' jeans are actually fine- as long as there not 'artfully' ripped etc. DD is a bit older now but at age 10/11 she only really had leggings- certainly didn't wear dresses, skirts etc. I think most interviews were in the school day so she had her very scruffy state school uniform which compared nicely with the blazers and a million badges of some DCs!

secondaryquandries · 05/01/2023 11:37

I think for KGS my son will either wear school uniform (going from school) or something like blue trousers (not jeans) with either a shirt or polo shirt. That is as smart as he gets!

@mmhophey LEH announced their new head in Dec - Rowena Cole. There's another thread on MN about it - there seems to be some ambiguity about the reasons she left her previous school (St John's Leatherhead) so it'll be interesting to get a sense of her at an open day in the autumn term (hopefully) before we have to submit final applications. I assume it was a pretty robust process at LEH, but it's always a bit disconcerting when a Head leaves a school (as Rowena Cole did) without having a new position to go to.

www.lehs.org.uk/about/leh-stories/story/~board/leh-news/post/lady-eleanor-holles-school-appoints-new-head-mistress#:~:text=Rowena%20will%20take%20up%20the,as%20our%20next%20Head%20Mistress.

There's so much movement among heads this year (beyond those you mentioned) that I think the current applicants and next year's (we are next year) will have to fly blind to some extent.

Thank you! 🙏

Sorry, my message didn't attach properly...

@QuiteAJourney and @LondonMum20222 thank you for this info! Will be interesting to follow these new heads. Will certainly book open mornings as soon as they have started. My DD sits 11+ the year after next so still some time to see how things go.

Has anyone heard if St John's have appointed a new head yet? I've heard so many positive things about St John's so am keeping this one for our list too. My DD plays football which is something she'd like to have a chance to play at senior school. I understand St John's girls football is growing strong.

sailingsunshine · 05/01/2023 12:10

Jeans, leggings, hoodies are fine for KGS, it's a quite relaxed event.

Chiswickmama · 05/01/2023 12:45

Would def agree with the comments above on interviewing and specifically SPGS. My DD last year was asked what she like about the school and she said “the chips”. It was absolutely honest and she’s now in the MIV.

Equally, they will expect to see genuine feeling, thought, the ability to rationalise and explain mixed with a whole bag of nerves & pressure! It’s all taken into account at the end of the day.

Daydreamscometrue · 05/01/2023 12:51

My DS and DD wore smart but casual clothes to LU

Twickmum1 · 05/01/2023 13:46

I think the only factor to consider when deciding what to wear is how comfortable your DC will be. I think if they feel more “professional/sharper” in uniform or smarter clothes that’s great. But if they will perform better in leggings and jeans that’s fine too. The school want to get to understand the child and from anecdotal advice I’ve heard they really don’t mind what the child is wearing.

momomamiko · 05/01/2023 14:29

Thank you all. DS goes to a state school which doesnt have a uniform so we`ll go for pants and a jumper I guess!

Bromptonmum · 05/01/2023 15:31

Hi guys, new to this and posting in the hope others will share their honest thoughts; how did everyone’s DC find the CLSG exam? DD felt the maths was tougher than expected, so it’s got me anxious. Hate this process!

travelturtle · 05/01/2023 16:06

For those asking about interview attire, I don’t think there’s any expectation from schools that kids would “dress up smart” for these in the way adults would. My DS last year wore uniform for the ones on a school day, and jeans and a jumper for the Saturday/holiday ones (including LU). I drew the line at allowing him to go in his muddy football kit, but really the kids just need to wear what they are comfortable in. At the Saturday LU interview there were a few in uniform, but vast majority not.

tamu1234 · 05/01/2023 16:11

Same here my DC found Maths tough as well and one of the toughest infact! and couldn't complete; however DC enjoyed English but also was pushing on time. Todays session was in batches I believe.

DD said it was tougher than other maths papers for her. She wasn’t expecting such a tough paper so I think that caught her somewhat off guard.

knopka · 05/01/2023 16:20

For those who sat Emanuel exams, what did your children think of maths paper? DS who sat 11+ said he didn't do the last question - it was hard.

Waitlist1234 · 05/01/2023 16:59

Has anyone received any news from G&L or PHS yet?
Spent my day refreshing my mailbox..

Dallasdays · 05/01/2023 17:04

We just got out Claremont email - pleased that my DS was invited back for interview!

Asham · 05/01/2023 17:07

Us too. So relieved as my DC’s writing is not very legible.

Also, for those asking about second round IPS, 200 went through for 50 places. I called admissions but the lady on reception to me.

I have no idea, but maybe one of us should call admissions to see as they seem to be more open with this info than I might have expected!

elevenplusmum22 · 05/01/2023 17:13

Congratulations to those who have received an interview invitation from Claremont. Does anyone know approximately how many they interview? Tia.

QuiteAJourney · 05/01/2023 17:16

@Dallasdays @BlueTick @Asham congratulations!

Us too. Very relieved. Would also be interested to hear about the odds for the next stage.

Workhar · 05/01/2023 17:18

CLSG maths was quite hard, according to DD. She enjoyed the English paper.

Daydreamscometrue · 05/01/2023 17:20

@Asham thanks for the information about IPS. Did they say how many actually sat round 1?

Congratulations those with Claremont interviews!

Daydreamscometrue · 05/01/2023 17:22

@knopka my DS said the same. The maths was challenging.
