Out of interest, what was the answer to the Juan and his bike question?!

Nettleskeins · 26/05/2018 18:09

you can google "medical schools admissions" and each uni gives its requirements, some want Biology A level and Chemistry, some like Cambridge ask for A*s and are happy with Chemistry and Maths/Physics. Chemistry seems to be very important I think because it is not taught as part of the course, whereas Biology is taught throughout (that's from reading The Student Room)

Teenmum60 · 26/05/2018 18:21

Chemistry definitely the most important factor and I think a lot of DC's take Maths/Further Maths too.
So far DD has work experience lined up for Interior Design and possibly experience in our local primary school - so not medicine related because at the time she didn't have any ambitions in terms of career...she is strong on Biology/Physics...I believe she will be fine with Chemistry - but the change of teacher had a detrimental impact this year.

Not sure whether anyone lives in the vicinity of Warwick or can get there easily but I found this free Lab Experience Day in July that is still accepting bookings... warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/lifesci/outreach/lab/

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 18:22

Yes you’re right chemistry is the most important

spababe · 26/05/2018 18:55

Juan was an estimate so I think they will accept 25 or 26

BlueBelle123 · 26/05/2018 19:27

Oratory I have booked DS on to a Uni Open Day we were originally just going to go to the medicine talk but we shall now be visiting the biomedical department Smile

hmmwhatatodo · 26/05/2018 19:48

Thank you spa.

Deadpool 2 was hilarious but definitely worth its 15 rating, lots of gruesome deaths.

Lots of medic hopefuls at the school I work at. Many start with maths, physics, chemistry and biology and drop the physics after Y12. BMAT or UKCAT equally important, or course, for most medical schools.

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 21:19

That’s what DD1 did but there were AS s then - still not convinced what benefit there is in taking a 4th for a year. Can see the point in trying 4 at the start if your not sure and deciding between two subjects, or doing four full A levels if you can cope easily with the work but what’s the point in carrying one TIL the end of year 12

EllenJanethickerknickers · 26/05/2018 21:22

I think the Y12 physics helps with some of the BMAT stuff.

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 21:23

Fair enough. Not questioning it btw, just curious

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 21:53

Thank you all for your concerns about me. The body has a funny way of telling you to slow down hence this bout of vertigo I have at the moment. Didn't drive today dd and dgd went clothes shopping and enjoyed themselves and apart from taking pup out I did absolutely nothing! Not pleasant feeling sea sick all the time! So I'm having an enforced rest now. Thank goodness the DC are on half term!Smile you all are here for me so please don't worry. Exams and stroppy dcs are enough worryGrin and if I need to talk you are all lovely peeps on here who I can pm for a chat! Flowers

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 21:57
