mmzz DS is in a similar position expected to get 8's for the Englishes but knows he could of done better on the papers particularly paper 2, he also did Singh song and said when the paper was opened he did an ironic laugh and other similar noises were heard (no-one was happy). However, what is done is done and you have to look forward I said to DS what have you learnt now that you are half way through so you can apply to the next half and he said I wished I had revised more English Lit(very little was done) ........so at long last we have a break through and he is really going to go for it next week on English Language.....it may be too late for lit but its still all to play for, for the Language.

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 08:23

mmzz have put off treatment till end of June. Mum is still the word.Smile

JustDanceAddict · 26/05/2018 08:27

Hooray! Halfway through & apart from a dodgy Biology paper it has gone ok. Best ones were maths & chemistry, but Lit went better than expected she said. She’s struggled to totally finish some and has used bullet points when running out of time. I knew that would be an issue though.

JustDanceAddict · 26/05/2018 08:30

Dd compared Ozimandias to Tissue! Had to get bloody tissue in there somewhere...

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 08:30

justdance same here my dgd! She's still going on about biology paper and is more worried about that then anything. Keep trying to reassure her that paper 2 may go very well but she's not buying it.Hmm

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 08:32

Dgd stated again yesterday she would have felt like walking out if tissue came up!

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 08:33

Thanks teen Flowers

BlueBelle123 · 26/05/2018 08:39

Sos you can tell your DGD from me that Biology is very difficult to tell how you've done so don't worry can't change the past but she still has a chance with the future Wink........sorry to hear about the vertigo.

Teen my DD did Chemistry she found it incredibly hard but she started with a B at GCSE and in hindsight would have done something else instead.

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 08:51

DD1 did chemistry (from A* at GCSE). Enjoyed it although it was hard. It is all about understanding rather than learning, so if you get it its was probably not too labour intensive. But I know a lot of people struggle with it. It is seen the best predictor for successful medical students hence a lot of medical schools insist on it but don't necessarily require biology. Some of her peers missed out on med school as they couldn't make the A in chemistry.

She enjoyed it as said it was more interesting than physics and not as much to learn (spout the mark scheme) as biology. Ended up with an A (along with A* in Bio, A in maths and Physics AS) at a non selective sixth form with average teaching. And now enjoying Biomedical science at uni

mmzz · 26/05/2018 08:51

LooseAtTheSeams - he compared it to The Farmer's Bride. Language - I daren't ask!

mmzz · 26/05/2018 08:53

Sost - are you feeling ok though? The stress you must be under must be awful. I think you are being very brave. Flowers

BlueBelle123 · 26/05/2018 08:58

Oratory does your DD have a particular career in mind after Biomedical? Asking as DS wants to do medicine but its so competitive, I was wondering of other career choices.

Teenmum60 · 26/05/2018 09:06

Thanks, Bluebelle and Oratory.

DD definitely keen to go down Medicine route..she feels both Biology and Physics paper1's went really well but Chemistry was hard..her Chem grades have gone down in the last Yr was forecast A* at the end of year 10 - then change of teacher - I think she's just lost all her confidence...

BlueBelle123 · 26/05/2018 09:08

Teen if I remember correctly your DD is sitting on 2 6th form offers I would compare their results for A level chemisty.

Sostenueto · 26/05/2018 09:23

As well as can be expected mmzz Smile but very difficult sometimes but I do tell my pup all my troubles and have a lot of private crying when it gets too much. Better to let it out than keep it in I always say! Don't worry I'm so very hard to get rid of!Grin and thank you for your concernFlowers

snozzlemaid · 26/05/2018 09:36

Great to read others have DCs on the Biomedical path. That's what DD is aiming to do.
She wants to do Biology, Chemistry,Maths and Psychology at A level and did well in her mocks so should be heading in the right direction with her GCSEs.
She said the science papers were ok but she's not happy with how the Maths paper they did this week went. She says she has realised after that she made silly mistakes. But I'm hoping it wasn't too bad for her and she still has two papers to go to pull it back.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 26/05/2018 09:37

Not all sixth forms make their subject specific results easy to find. You might need to ask if it's not on their website. DS3 is taking chemistry A level. I still think he would be better off taking physics but what do I know? Hmm

DS3 was up early and has done some history revision already. Two of his topics don't have published revision guides or text books, WW1 and America, which is a bit of a pain. He has a 4 hour revision session on history at school on Tuesday which will be useful. (Plus 2 hours English language beforehand.)

You must start thinking of yourself soon, sost. I don't like the idea of you delaying treatment, but I understand why you have. Flowers

AlexanderHamilton · 26/05/2018 09:45

Sostenuto you must look after yourself. You are no good to dgd if you yourself are not well.

BlueBelle123 · 26/05/2018 09:48

sostenueto can only echo what others have said now might be the time to put yourself first, your family will understand Flowers

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 09:49

Hi Bluebelle. Yes never wanted to do medicine (loves the science of medicine but struggles with social/communication side). Says biomed is like medicine without the patients !! Initially thinking research route as the obvious choice, but had a bit of a wobble in second year and lost confidence a bit so began thinking that wasn’t achievable - but now discovered a whole host of career options in NHS science/lab work/genetic testing etc either with or without further study. So keen to go down that route - helped by a year long work placement she s just finishing (between second and third yearsuni years) in an nhs molecular genetics lab - mix of regular genetic testing work and research into diabetes/ genetic conditions etc. Placement year has been a huge success for her and would recommend it

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 09:50

Anyone going down biomed route does need the chemistry

Oratory1 · 26/05/2018 09:52

But I think those who struggle makie the mistake of treating it like gcse s and only seek help at exam time - if you work with teachers to secure understanding from the start there is much greater chance of success

beenrumbled · 26/05/2018 09:52

DS has spent the morning so far trying to convince us he needs a new cricket bat. There is nothing wrong with the (expensive) bat he has, which is less than a year old.

He has just settled down to do history, business and maths revision.

He still has 13 exams after half term.

beenrumbled · 26/05/2018 09:53

sostenueto you need to look after yourself too

AlexanderHamilton · 26/05/2018 09:58

After ds’s English exam yesterday she had some free time before her scheduled music revision session. So she went to talk to the Head of English about A levels & he gave her a pre- A level reading list.
