Anyone can make a mistake. That's why you check stuff (I'm talking about the head of dept now who had final responsibility). I'm wondering how come none of the teachers noticed it either? You'd think they'd at least have some professional curiosity as to which texts were being phased out.

Anyway, what's done is done. It is all about the remedy now.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 25/05/2018 19:01

Tissue was DS's least favourite poem and he was glad it didn't come up. (Too hard apparently.) He says he wrote about 5 pages. Does that seem like enough?

PandaG · 25/05/2018 19:04

Dd was very happy with Ozymandias and the Inspector Calls question, and said she could easily engage with the unseen. She was horrified when I told her about the wrong set text. I really hope they get some sort of consideration.

idsisatwat · 25/05/2018 19:39

mmzz how is your DS now?

Just catching up the thread now. That mistake by the school is shocking! Those poor children!

DD reported that she was happy with the English lit. Smile And she’s now flat out asleep on the sofa. At least they’ve got a bit of a rest before the next onslaught.

Stickerrocks · 25/05/2018 19:48

Oh my goodness, super & waiting. One local (special measures) school taught the wrong text a couple of years ago, but the pupils realised the weekend before the exam. There was a run on study guides in Waterstones by those who cared. I checked that DD'S texts sounded reasonable (did I study them for O level - yes, move on).

I do wish I hadn't asked DD if her question was one she had previously done. She's now fretting that she will be penalised, ax she thought it went really well.

idsisatwat Honestly? He's just worn out my goodwill. He's upset about the exam and the friendship thing so is thinking that it excuses him being rude, argumentative and disrespectful. I've cut him a lot of slack today, but as of 10 minutes ago, he officially went too far. DH has now taken him out to pick up a couple of groceries (much against DS's will) and I suspect he's getting a stern talking to in the car.

mmzz Gin start thinking calming thoughts about a new thread name or alternatively, get ready to watch Friday Night Dinner at 10pm.

Oratory1 · 25/05/2018 20:25

Thinking of you mmzz and hope half term brings some rest and respite.

mmzz · 25/05/2018 20:27

I think I will see if there is any tonic in the house to go with that gin!

idsisatwat · 25/05/2018 20:30

mmzz They do seem to be experts at pushing boundaries, or seeing the line and then leaping about 6ft over it!! I’ve found that with my two. I give an inch and they take a lot more.

Hopefully it’s out os his system now, and he’ll be back to normal (assuming normal is good)

It’s friday and definitely time for Gin

Cherryburn · 25/05/2018 20:31

mmzz he's had a rotten day on the back of a stressful and tiring few weeks (most of them have been hard at it since the start of the Easter holidays). And unfortunately, at some point, they take it out on us. He needs a break (and so do we!) I find Wine helps!

beenrumbled · 25/05/2018 20:31

Hardly seen Ds since I got home. Apparently the y11s without an afternoon exam were allowed to leave after English lit. I don't think he has revised at all today!

Stickerrocks · 25/05/2018 20:32

I'm afraid mmzz that I've already used all the Fever Tree light, but there is an open bottle of their Clementine & cinnamon floating around!

OP posts:
Cherryburn · 25/05/2018 20:35

No sign of DS since I dropped him off at the tube this morning! He definitely needs a break though. Revision will resume on Monday.

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/05/2018 20:35

Just catching up. DS was happy with lit and is now gaming.
Feel very sorry for the dcs who opened the exam paper to find no question on their text and am keeping my fingers crossed that the exam board uses discretion. Amazing that no one realised.

sandybayley · 25/05/2018 20:50

Dropping back in after an all day sporting event with DD. Exhausted!

English Lit was alright/good (CiE).

DS1 has gone to a BBQ and says he'll be back later. So nice to be able to have an evening off and the prospect of a slightly easier schedule (6 exams to go).

@mmzz Sorry to hear your DS had a rubbish day. It's no excuse for him to be rude to you but I think once you've had a bit of time away from him you'll find it in your heart to forgive him. It sounds like he has had a tough time at secondary. My DS is a little geeky and it took him time to find his 'people' - we chose his school specifically because we thought he would find kindred souls there. I hope 6th form is where your DS finds his.

Teenmum60 · 25/05/2018 21:01

mmzz - Your DS seems lovely, he has worked incredibly hard over the last few months - sometimes they do hit out when they have had a rough day ... in a few weeks all these exams will be over and things will be back to normal...

slinkyme · 25/05/2018 21:02

Just catching up on the messages today. Gosh can't believe the cock up by the schools. I really hope the DC get some leniency by the boards. I never checked the texts and just took the school's word for it.

Will definitely check in the future for DS when his time comes.

Have been at work and DD home today. She says she did some maths and sciences today. Not convinced but then wanted her to take it easy. Need to plan the next few days so that we get some time for just getting away from it all and then some focused days of studying once reenergised.

Re earlier discussion on thread about social interactions and friends - has been an issue here too for both my DC and definitely affected them too. Someone up thread said about finding their tribe - I too hold out hope that they will do that. It takes just one kindred spirit. DD has found these now but her earlier experiences have scarred her. Am worried that DS is going through it too. It is heartbreaking as a parent. Thanks for all parents and DC going through this.

KingscoteStaff · 25/05/2018 21:04

DS liked CIE English - the Macbeth extract was the section of the Christopher Eccleston that he'd particularly liked and the unseen was 'a strange short story about a girl called Hilary' - my extensive Googling has failed to find it...

Evening off at the mate with a firepit in his garden - how cool is that?
Then easy day tomorrow, back to the grind on Sunday.

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 21:18

Dgd compared olyz to London. I suppose if you could find enough connections in other poems convincingly it will be fine. looseattheseams will know ( I'm now worrying!)

LooseAtTheSeams · 25/05/2018 21:21

Yes, that's fine! DS would have done that too but couldn't remember enough quotes from London so chose something else!

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 21:29

Even dgds English teacher (oxford degree) didn't like tissue!Grin
When dgd got home early after leavers assembly which turned out to be a mini mass and no prizes ( being saved for prize giving in October) we had to sit through nearly 2 hours of flipping k-pop! Dgd do much wants to see bts or whoever they are in October and dd is secretly going to try to get tickets but we are not holding out as they will go very quickly but she will try her best. We haven't said anything so as not to disappoint dgd. How weird to like a South Korean group ( which she sings along to in Korean!). She also likes an Australian group and an American group all of which are weird! Yet she doesn't like pop music adores mowtown and even Nat King Cole! And Queen! Gosh she's weirdGrin

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 21:31

loose dgd wrote 10 pages! She was so elated when she came out if that exam! She even predicted social class for An Inspector calls. I didn't want to deflate her by saying grade boundaries will be high(sigh)

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 21:33

Sostenueto I have a DD in Y9 who listens to a lot of K-pop. She also watches Chinese soap operas.

Sostenueto · 25/05/2018 21:34

What did he choose loose? will London be really OK?
