Does anyone have a strong sense of what we should expect tomorrow?

I am thinking maybe a limit on number of households meeting could happen again, but that they would exclude Christmas Day. But it might just be framed as a recommendation.

The only thing I wondered about was schools. Certainly here they are open until 23rd. I wondered if she might close from this Friday. I could be wrong but I think England breaks then. Disclaimer that is totally out of my head and based in lots of posts where schools here are cancelling parties etc next week.

LovelyMondayMornings · 13/12/2021 11:57

At a guess firm restrictions on households mixing indoors in public settings, recommended restrictions on mixing indoors in private settings, possibly a firmer stance on working from home.

I don't think there is much else they can do unless they reintroduce furlough. I do believe that if she had the money we would have been locked down fully last week.

LovelyMondayMornings · 13/12/2021 11:59

stripe I think the problem with that so many cannot work from home and therefore either can't work or can't look after children. We may well see school closures due to cases though but unless they put financial support in place they can't close the schools en masse

stripetop · 13/12/2021 12:01

@LovelyMondayMornings I hope so. As I say it's just a gut nothing real. I hate this waiting. Ours have nursery settles the late part of this week early next, just cancelled those.

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 12:10

I agree that it is very difficult to do anything about work and school without a furlough scheme.

I know this is all just speculation but I prefer to wildly speculate instead of just waiting!

Varies hugely in England. We are open until 22nd.
LovelyMondayMornings · 13/12/2021 12:16

Yes I agree shifting my husband hates it because his attitude is just wait and see but I do like to go through all scenarios so I don't feel like I'm being caught on the backfoot.

I plan for the worst in every situation though so I can have an idea in my head of my next step. I've been like that for as long as I can remember and despite his protests I'm not able to switch it off so he shall listen to me witter on 🤣

GoldenOmber · 13/12/2021 12:22

If they closed schools early I would have zero faith they’d reopen again in January, even if they absolutely promised. How many “just a few weeks… and another… and another” have we had by now? What happened to secondary school kids in masks for “no longer than 6 weeks” back in August?

hemhem · 13/12/2021 12:25

Probably a long christmas break and some kind of mini post Xmas lockdown, 2-3 weeks. And then they'll furiously negotiate with Westminster for extra cash so that on Dec 27th they'll announce its so bad the schools are to be shut for all of January and all clubs are to stop too like last Jan. I'm feeling pessimistic today!

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 12:27

I think it’s true that the measures whatever they are will continue to apply through January. Even if they do boost everyone by the end of the year taking protection to 75% as they estimated, which will be tough, it would still take a further 2 weeks for that protection to actually kick in. And that only cover adults and only those adults who have been vaccinated. So the wave will be surging in January.

Honestly it doesn't bare thinking about. I am so sick of this dark cloud hanging over- will there be more restrictions, I've booked this but will I get to go etc... I feel myself getting more and more down everyday

Calmdown14 · 13/12/2021 12:29

I wondered about the last week in school too. They might assign them as non learning days for primary at least encouraging any who can to keep the kids at home.
But I'd hope they'd leave them open for those working though the track record on this is poor.
It would give a full week clear before going to relatives at Christmas.
Otherwise it can only really be household mixing or travel as without furlough there aren't really any other options

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 12:36

Totally agree that it’s miserable and I am sick of it too. I’m just trying to prepare myself. Given the number of projected infections, it looks like things are going to be disrupted one way or another, but I’m just trying to get a handle on how things will go down.

I reckon:

Closing schools on Friday
Firm on WFH
Limit of 3 households in pubs/restaurants to stop the Xmas partying
Extension of covid pass for pubs, restaurants and indoor settings

I don’t think they’ll have much joy getting folk to go any further. Also would like to think that the new isolation rules won’t last to long once omicron overtakes. Its already having impacts on staffing.

SheWoreYellow · 13/12/2021 12:39

We break up this friday, so not all of Scotland is 23rd. Not sure that makes any difference to anyone Grin

I really really hope schools don’t have to close.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 12:41

She can't close non-essential retail as she doesn't have the power to furlough.

She has already shafted the hospitality sector with her "wouldn't advise CHristmas parties" - front page of the Scotsman on Saturday was about restaurants being left with cancelled tables and turkey they can't sell. Teaching unions are already agitating for schools to close early, and we all know that Sturgeon listens to Larry Flanagan more than she does to anyone else. (Except perhaps Doom-Monger Devi). Humza Useless saying restrictions are "inevitable".

So shaft the kids by closing schools. Shaft hospitality by not legally banning but telling people not to go out. Shaft everyone by telling them not to mix or that it's illegal to go to another local authority area.

How long are we going to put up with this shit?

ParkheadParadise · 13/12/2021 12:45

Probably talk about vaccine uptake.
LFT to go to the pub🥂🥂
2-metre distance again
Personally, I'm done listening
MERRY CHRISTMAS 🎁 🎅

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 12:48

It is totally shit and I am fed up. What’s annoying to me is that they didn’t try to speed up the boosters sooner. I think there isn’t much else they could have done but that is something they could have done, if they can do it now.

OP posts:
MrsJackRackham · 13/12/2021 12:49

Force the pubs to close at 11 or 1030 again, back to table service and booking with a negative LFT. No drinking at the bar.
She doesn't have the money to shut everything down again although I'm sure she's choking to.

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 12:49

As long as no one is actually ill, we will be having Christmas as planned I think.

OP posts:
RJnomore1 · 13/12/2021 12:49

Pretty sure closing schools on Friday. Nothing to base that on but gut though.

Think hospitality restrictions again and anything they can lock down without having to introduce furlough eg gyms back to no classes and that sort of thing.

I have a very bleak mid March 2020 feeling. I hope im wrong.

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 12:51

I have more of a Dec 2020 feeling! Don't know if that's better or worse.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 12:51

I have reached that point too, Parkhead. I won't be stopping seeing people inside and won't be stopping my kids from doing it either. I won't be staying in my local council area.

I've had my 2 jabs and a booster.

She can fuck off to the far side of fuck and then fuck off a bit more if she thinks that closing schools will be taken lightly. I have a S5 child doing her Highers - the end of S3 was fucked. S4 was fucked. I'm damned if I'm letting Nippy and Useless fuck her S5 chances too.

ENOUGH.

TeenTraumaTrials · 13/12/2021 12:52

I'm praying schools aren't kept closed after Christmas - for all the usual reasons about parents not being able to manage with DCs at home if there's not financial support etc, but also because DD's school haven't done their prelims yet and that might have serious knock-on impact. Agree with PP that if SG had the financial ability we'd have been in lockdown right now - despite the WHO saying that lockdown's aren't the answer. I just don't see how they could restrict pubs/restaurants/in-house to 3 families but allow pantos/concerts etc to go ahead - and they can't stop the latter without financial support for the businesses.
