Does anyone have a strong sense of what we should expect tomorrow?

@GoldenOmber

Yeah…I do think that might sort of be the situation. This time we’ve got winter, backlogs due to lockdown plus a new wave with an apparently similar R number as the first wave.

I reckon loads of people will ignore household restrictions now.
Last year we did it as we were waiting for the vaccine.

What are we waiting for now?
Everyone to get the booster? By the time everyone's had it the 1st lot will be 3 months on and their immunity may be starting to wane so then what Hmm

Why was my post deleted?

Jeezo, is nippy our beloved First Minister patrolling Scotsnet now?

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 16:34

If they introduce household restrictions, I feel very sorry for the police as well as us. I bet they hate having to break up household gatherings of normally law abiding people.
I wish we'd just know today. I have a headache and the sense of doom.

Rassy · 13/12/2021 16:37

It feels like Groundhog Day on repeat!!
DD has booked ticket at a Nightclub for NYE - I doubt it will be open then

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 16:40

Can’t remember what your post said but I didn’t expect anything here to get deleted.

Yeah I don’t think there’ll be a lot of compliance on household mixing. People are fed up and (many) boosted and also just aren’t as scared any more.

First wave we could see the scenes unfolding in Italy, then second time we could already see cases shooting up and we were waiting for vaccines, then third wave they could hold off longer on unlocking because people could see India. But now, the situation in South Africa is nowhere near that bad, and that’s with fewer vaccinations than us and low restrictions. So…

FizzingGently · 13/12/2021 16:41

I also have a sense of impending doom.
We’re supposed to be travelling up and staying in a hotel for Christmas with family.
I feel so sorry for the hospitality industry.
The uncertainty is driving me mad.

@Mojoj

I don't care what she says. Am done. Had Covid. Been vaccinated. Time to get on with the business of living. Whatever she announces, I won't be altering my Christmas plans. I'll be raging if schools finish early as she'll be caving in to the EIS. What about shopworkers that are exposed to everyone's germs? So sick of these useless attempts to control a virus. Lockdowns don't work but none of the politicians are brave enough to admit this.
This is exactly how I feel Mojoj. I'm now triple vaccinated, I've had Covid, I've done everything asked but i'm not doing it all again. I'll be sensible, I won't be at giant parties but I will be having my family round my table at Christmas and nobody will stop me doing that ever again.
ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 16:50

I think they will try hard not to restrict Christmas Day itself.

"It’s like the language is scripted, last week it was ‘can’t rule out new restrictions’, Swinney at the weekend ‘restrictions are possible’, Yousaf today ‘restrictions are inevitable’.

It’s like they’re take baby steps to communicate something thats clearly been decided. Just be up front!!! Winds me right up. Say nothing, or say everything."

Agreed. It winds me up that they drop
Hints in the press leading to days of speculation getting people stressed etc.

The government need to be grown ups. Actually say what they mean and stop with the drip, drip, drip feed to the press

MLMshouldbeillegal · 13/12/2021 16:53

But @tigger1001! We're having a grown up conversation, remember? Hmm

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 16:55

That's a really good point @GoldenOmber , first time round we were genuinely scared by the potential body toll, second time round we put up with it coz vaccines were our saviour.

This time will be interesting to see how they get compliance, they've started ramping up the fear factor with the first Omicron fatality ( although it's a bit sketchy if that was actual cause of death) but then I think they fear they may have overegged it, as DM has news story about how being double vaccinated still prevents you from getting seriously ill from Omircron .

This is something, at least....maybe.

ecceromani · 13/12/2021 17:02

I don't think they'll close schools early but a lot of families (of staff snd pupils) will have their Christmas plans ruined by the whole household isolation rule in Scotland

Maybe the governments version of grown up is different to mine 😂😂

There's no isolation in GCC , same as before. They're looking at making teachers exempt too.
Yellow85 · 13/12/2021 17:19

Reading stv news I get the feeling they’re back pedalling a bit from the doomsday language of late. She seems to be playing down what’s coming tomorrow…saying people have been living with this for 2 years and that we are in a very different place from last year.

aquamarine1 · 13/12/2021 17:27

ScotGov's continual use of threatening drip-feeding is an absolute scandal. Chris Musson is doing sterling work in a very small field of journalists willing to hold this mob to account.

Iwantthesummersun · 13/12/2021 17:28

Making teachers exempt from what? Isolating so they can open classes for three days next week for kids to draw and paint? It won’t stop school staff catching covid or not being able to see their families. Same stands for pupils. I wish everyone was so up in arms about education when teachers said for years that education was being destroyed by funding cuts. Or when kids were not accessing the support they needed to thrive in school. Or the support to actually step foot ever the doorway. Perhaps if people had stood behind schools when supply teachers had their salaries slashed and they walked away from the profession in trainloads then we’d actually have people available to cover illness and the threat of having to go to online learning wouldn’t be omnipresent.

She said she wi t close schools…

Yellow85 · 13/12/2021 17:32

@StarryEyeSurprise yes we’re back to the old segregation of society based on job title again. It’s ridiculous. I know of an nhs team in GGC who went ahead with Xmas party BECAUSE they knew they were exempt thanks to the late addendum on Friday, same with some Police friends who haven’t cancelled theirs. It’s all bloody madness.

Kshhuxnxk · 13/12/2021 17:33

Given there were 30+ teachers having a christmas party in my local on Friday night I reckon there will be a school in Clackmannanshire closed next week!

ecceromani · 13/12/2021 17:38

But my understanding is the exemption only applies to allow the person to go to work, not social activities. That's what it for nhs.

So if a teacher's household member tests positive on Friday the teacher can test daily to allow them to go into the classroom next week but does not allow them to drop round to see their sister/parents or whoever on Christmas Day or Boxing Day
