Does anyone have a strong sense of what we should expect tomorrow?

I see there's talk of extending the covid passport. If she does that, then the app needs sorting out. I had my second vaccination in the EU and my first and third in Scotland. There is currently no way for me to prove I'm fully vaccinated. It's perfectly doable in England via their app, but Scotland is 'looking into how to resolve' this Hmm

Yellow85 · 13/12/2021 17:48

@ecceromani

But my understanding is the exemption only applies to allow the person to go to work, not social activities. That's what it for nhs.

So if a teacher's household member tests positive on Friday the teacher can test daily to allow them to go into the classroom next week but does not allow them to drop round to see their sister/parents or whoever on Christmas Day or Boxing Day

Doesn’t say any of that online: www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-test-and-protect/pages/critical-workers-exemption/
DrCoconut · 13/12/2021 17:55

Bozo will follow her lead next week so I'm watching closely!

ecceromani · 13/12/2021 17:55

@Yellow85 yes but the employer who makes the exemption informs the worker it's for work, they should not be mixing otherwise.
That's the guidelines my nhs family member was given

ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 17:56

I don’t get how Covid passports help with omicron until a lot more people are boosted.

Makes it even worse . Confused
StarryEyeSurprise · 13/12/2021 18:11

Honestly, care staff and NHS workers have been treated absolutely terribly.

ecceromani · 13/12/2021 18:25

That's why many nhs staff were not thrilled about the exemption earlier in the year!

How are you feeling now @StarryEyeSurprise Are you fully recovered?

StarryEyeSurprise · 13/12/2021 19:31

I must admit I was ignorant of that fact at the time.

Feeling absolutely shattered and breathless at times. In work ( I work p/t anyway) but it's a real struggle to be honest.

My son has been referred to the respiratory clinic now (he's only 3). Damage to his lungs. He was just saying he gets a sore tummy when singing sometimes ( but pointing to his chest). I just want to make this Christmas as fun for him as possible, he's ok and can do things just not like before. Often says he ' needs a lie down' if doing any exercise too.

We got an email confirming we ( teachers) and pupils still don't self isolate when there are positive cases in our classrooms. I know self isolations are a pain for parents but my family wouldn't have had to go through this if the old rules applied. And the new rules are only in place so parents can go to work. We were told as much by the bosses.

Thanks for asking how I am. Flowers

Yellow85 · 13/12/2021 19:37

Is it just me or has omicron got a long way to go to be dominant in the next 6 days?

What restrictions will Nicola announce on Tuesday?
ShiftingSands21 · 13/12/2021 19:50

I think they think there’s probably a lot more cases than have actually been reported, and they are doubling every 2 days ish. So imagine there is really 500 cases today.

OP posts:
sparkle17 · 13/12/2021 20:43

It does seem though that even the ones they are reporting are not doubling at a rate of every 2 days. Let's see what they say tomorrow, not sure what will happen really

SheWoreYellow · 13/12/2021 20:44

They find probable cases first, and there is a lag while they get confirmed. The probable cases are those missing the S gene thingy, which are pretty much all Omicron. So they know but can’t report on the higher figures.

frasersmummy · 13/12/2021 20:46

Cased have actually come down the last few days..so not sure how that ties in with doubling every 2 days ..maybe I'm just thick

Yellow85 · 13/12/2021 20:51

It all very complicated - but if omicron doubles every 2 days then does delta die out or does it continue at the rates it’s at on top of omicron? Or would delta cases eventually reduce?

I’m just not understanding how they can estimate daily number growth at all!

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 21:04

So I have some insider knowledge, but I cannot divulge my sources Wink.
Apparently there's a full set of new restrictions drawn up, just waiting for some furlough funding, but the priority is to keep DCs at school, but if funding is approved- big if - then could see hospitality closed by Friday.

hilbil21 · 13/12/2021 21:06

Well I pray pray pray no furlough given Shock

ecceromani · 13/12/2021 21:11

Gosh I'm sorry to hear that @StarryEyeSurprise
It's so hard to see our children struggling. 3 year olds shouldn't be having to lie down after exercise Confused
Hope you both start to pick up over the next couple weeks. You really need this Christmas breakThanks

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/12/2021 21:16

@rookiemere is that essentially everything shut bar schools then - retail, gyms, hair/beauty and so on? Or just hospitality?

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 21:18

I don't know any more details @Judystilldreamsofhorses sorry.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/12/2021 21:22

Thanks @rookiemere - BJ (or Cunto as he’s known in this house) will never go for furlough again, surely? Plus they need to actually make an announcement tomorrow, not fanny about saying “this might happen if we get some money”.

rookiemere · 13/12/2021 21:25

So apologies as a bit more was said, now you ask. Apparently she may try and push some of it through, even without funding.
Now don't ask me for details as I don't know, but assume we'll know more tomorrow.

lonsdaleshorts · 13/12/2021 21:28

She can’t close the country down without furlough. We don’t have furlough. There would be mass unemployment.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/12/2021 21:28

I have a hair appointment on Wednesday and will be furious if salons get closed! She would be stone cold mental to push closures through without funding unless she has a magic pot up her sleeve somewhere.

Yellow85 · 13/12/2021 21:30

Even with furlough hospitality jobs will be lost, they take most of their money at this time of year. I can’t see us leapfrogging the 6 from 3 rule in favour of closing hospitality altogether. I mean right now they are still hosting tribute/party nights. It’s not going from that to closure.
