So irresponsible. Here we go again. Will Glasgow ever be out of lockdown?

I must have dreamt Celtic fans "protesting" against the board at the end of last year by gathering outside Parkhead, attacking the team bus, fighting with police and destroying barriers then. 🦈 (oh wait I forgot, covid won't get you if you call your large gathering a protest.)

Two cheeks of the same arse, stop deluding yourselves it would have been any different. This thread has nothing to do with lockdowns and covid and everything to do with raging Celtic fans comforting themselves that even if they lost their 100% guaranteed cannot get beat 10 at least they're not as bad those awful rangers fans.

Except they are.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/05/2021 09:45

They are a fucking embarrassment. We live in a "rangers town" not far from Glasgow and they have been at ot all fucking day here.
It used to be so bad here that my dad wouldn't let me out on days after matches or orange walks.
Covid aside, their vandalism and violence is disgusting.

thedevilinablackdress · 16/05/2021 09:45

Not to defend in the slightest what happened, because it sickens me, but I think it would have been different if the ground and the ground were open as in normal times.

I'm not a celtic fan, so what is my reason for thinking they are a bunch of fucking twats?
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/05/2021 09:49

@Broxigirl

Those saying the club should be sanctioned - why?

They put out messages through the week telling fans to stay safe and announcements today asking the crowd at Ibrox to disperse. There is nothing else in the clubs power they could have done.

Why the fuck would you punish Rangers because the police are incapable of doing their job?

Because if they punish the team, maybe their fans will think twice, but maybe not. They don't seem to have a braincell between them, so you're right, it's probably pointless. Also, I don't think there's enough police in Scotland to deal with that shit show.
thedevilinablackdress · 16/05/2021 09:49

*the ground and the pubs

StarryEyeSurprise · 16/05/2021 09:50

They could be supporters of Mother Theresa and I'd feel the same way.

MichelleScarn · 16/05/2021 09:52

Sure there might be outbreaks but probably not as outside has shown little transmission. More people likely to need hospital for drunken injuries than would need it for covid. Leave them to it. It's one day.

Ah if they're filling up the hospital because of drunken rioting that's just fine isn't it...

IceSwallowCome · 16/05/2021 09:53

"'m not a celtic fan, so what is my reason for thinking they are a bunch of fucking twats?"

I neither live in Glasgow nor give a shit about football so have no dog in this fight. What's my reason for being able to see that this would happen regardless of who won the league? 🤔

RaspberryCoulis · 16/05/2021 10:01

There is a large sub-section of football fans who are utter arses. Doesn't matter if they are Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs or Partick Thistle fans - they are brain dead arses who get pissed and think it's OK to smash stuff up.

Rangers as a club could do more - putting out a wishy-washy "please don't" statement really isn't enough. About a month ago some of these "fans" congregated at the training ground in Milngavie to celebrate something or another and spray painted 55 across most of the shutters, post boxes and other street furniture in Milngavie. Huge amount of local condemnation, loads of people contacted the club to ask what they were going to do about it and when would they be sending someone out to clean it all off? Silence.

And yes the police need to take a look at themselves too. Standing back, letting it happen, letting people travel on trains/buses, get pissed and then only step in when they start assaulting each other is the wrong policy. Covid or no Covid. Anyone with one brain cell could have told you that thousands of pissed football fans in a confined area would cause trouble.

It was you going on about celtic fans and people are only moaning because they must be celtic fans. I'm just pointing out I'm not and I'm still moaning and calling them arseholes, so what's my reason? It was you that said it, not me.

What a load of shite

I'm a saints fan. Why am
I raging then?

It's such a basic argument to bleat about Celtic when this has nothing to do with them

Elieza · 16/05/2021 10:04

If all of them got arrested where would you put them? There were loads. No idea how many. But loads. Thousands? So you’d need a tonne of police to huckle them all. Probably with the army to assist them.

Then you’d need more police on desk duty to process all the arrests.

Then court officials to either accept fines or schedule court dates. Then court staff on that day. And free legal aid for those entitled.

All paid for by the public.

As far as I know when there are matches through Glasgow the organisers have to pay for policing to keep the area safe. That’s a good idea. Why should the public pay for marches for an organisation many don’t care about.

I presume this applies to football and outdoor concerts etc too. So organisers pay. However this time there was nothing organised as idiots just turned up against the club wishes.

The only way to stop this is to take away their season tickets (problem being they presumably don’t have them due to covid this year) or ban them for x number of games. Or fine the club for not doing more to prevent the arseholery that happened. Or ban the team from matches or fine them heavily.

There has to be some consequences for actions. If there are not people will continue to do the same thing.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/05/2021 10:05

There was a full flight of fans from Belfast! All of it is a disgrace. People are on a knife edge. The restrictions have been too harsh for too long so people are just using any excuse. I remember years ago I was a kid and my mum and dad took me to the garngad when Celtic won something or other and it was absolute carnage as well.

Didn't wreck Glasgow. Didn't create rivers of piss. Managed not to destroy anything. Weren't anywhere near the same numbers.

Two cheeks of the same arse? Not really. Unless you've never seen an arse and so don't understand the saying Grin

Comparing what happened with the Celtic protest last year with whats happened twice this year with the George Square marches is pathetic.
A true fan would never condone this.

flashylamp · 16/05/2021 10:14

The only way to stop this is to take away their season tickets (problem being they presumably don’t have them due to covid this year) or ban them for x number of games.

The vast majority of these idiots have probably never even watched a match on TV, let alone in person.

IceSwallowCome · 16/05/2021 10:14

"It was you going on about celtic fans and people are only moaning because they must be celtic fans."

Actually that point was already made up thread by someone else. They probably weren't wrong though, since it didn't take long for the tired old "sevco" patter to get wheeled out.

"Two cheeks of the same arse? Not really."

Keep telling yourself that OP 👍

I agree with that. This is an excuse for intimidation and violence. A lot if the marchers wouldn't know the way around ibrox.
IceSwallowCome · 16/05/2021 10:22

"Comparing what happened with the Celtic protest last year with whats happened twice this year with the George Square marches is pathetic."

What's pathetic is people deluding themselves that "Celtic fans would NEVER" when they absolutely would have.

Bloodypunkrockers · 16/05/2021 10:23

Yes I bet a lot of them have never been inside Ibrox

Twitter shows how entwined their lives are with rangers. It seems to be all consuming

How sad to have that sort of life, where everything you do is couched in whataboutery, bigotry and lack of social awareness.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 16/05/2021 10:24

Lifelong Rangers fan DH got caught up with it yesterday. He says he’s done with them. He was on the underground and it was full of anti-Catholic chants, aggressive, nasty. They were jumping up and down on the train so much it was shaking. He said their behaviour was despicable.

I don’t actually most of these people are interested in football. It’s just an excuse.

Elieza · 16/05/2021 10:24

In response to replies to my post,

So if the troublemakers aren’t real subscription paying fans they won’t care if ‘their’ team gets fined or banned from matches presumably as it’s no skin off their nose?

So how can this be prevented in future without the public purse being involved. I’m thinking it can’t, hence why nothing was done, it was out in the Too Difficult box?

(Incidentally I’m not a sports fan and don’t care which team or sport is causing these issues, I’m just disgusted with the whole situation and am trying to understand the mentality behind it, thanks)

forfucksakenett · 16/05/2021 10:27

@IceSwallowCome when have they then?

Where is the evidence that Celtic fans have ever behaved like this?
