So irresponsible. Here we go again. Will Glasgow ever be out of lockdown?

I genuinely don't understand why the club isn't sanctioned in some way - it's the only thing I can see working.

I’m confused as to what people think the club could have done? They requested multiple times for people to stay at home.

Also, just to confirm, the club tried to work with the government to prevent this. They requested, with plenty of notice, that 10,000 fans be allowed into Ibrox (with social distancing measures in place) for the title celebrations, in an effort to stop them congregating in the city centre. The SNP said no.

thedevilinablackdress · 24/05/2021 15:22

Maybe if fans see the club being severely punished for their behaviour, they think they've about doing it again.

thedevilinablackdress · 24/05/2021 15:22

*they think twice

Bloodypunkrockers · 24/05/2021 15:34

@thedevilinablackdress

*they think twice
To be fair, some of them have trouble thinking at all
thedevilinablackdress · 24/05/2021 15:45

There is that

I don't believe they thought for a second that would be approved. The 'application' was a PR stunt so they could pretend they'd done something to stop their Neanderthal fans from trashing the city. As if the council / government were going to fling all the covid levels and guidelines out of the window in the, quite frankly, virtually non-existent hope that rangers fans could conduct themselves in a civilised manner.
Bloodypunkrockers · 24/05/2021 19:08

My team won the cup on Saturday.

Perth wasn't wrecked

florafoxtrot · 24/05/2021 19:24

Quite @Bloodypunkrockers. Perhaps not a problem throughout the whole of Scottish football after all.

Yakkabee · 25/05/2021 12:23

I don't believe they thought for a second that would be approved.

Why not? They approved 12000 fans at Hampden in a few weeks time. Also now announced a “6000 capacity fan zone” at Glasgow Green for the duration of the Euros, despite Glasgow still being in L3 and rising rates. Exceptions are constantly made for football, so why would it be unthinkable for the Ibrox “celebration” to be approved?

Because it's in a few weeks time, rather than a few weeks ago.
Yakkabee · 25/05/2021 16:28

So will covid no longer be a risk on the 11th June when the “fan zone” opens on Glasgow Green then?

Rangers win was 10 days ago, when covid rates in Glasgow were lower than they are now, yet they made the decision about allowing the Euro “fan zone” this week. On the same day as Rangers’ win, 20,000 English fans were allowed in the stadium to watch/celebrate the FA Cup Final. It was not the case it could never be approved, the government chose to allow the league to go ahead and then chose not to let them celebrate in their own stadium. They allowed a repeat of what had already happened in March and then publicly condemned it.

weebarra · 26/05/2021 07:48

@Bloodypunkrockers - mine too! Been a season ticket holder since I was 11. So delighted!

Personally I wouldn't imagine it will be as much of a risk as it was 3 weeks ago. But I would imagine that the city centre won't get trashed again. Like the city centre hasn't been trashed on trophy day for the past 9 years, and Perth wasn't trashed at the weekend.
StarryEyeSurprise · 26/05/2021 12:45

Yakkabee do you really believe the fans would go home after a party in Ibrox? Come on. It would be a pre party - the same as the party on the stadium concourse was.

Yakkabee · 26/05/2021 22:42

Ibrox request: 21st April (date of gvmt response)
Covid rates in Glasgow: 41.6/100k
Planned easing of Glasgow restrictions: 17th May.
(request for 2 day exception (15th May) in line with the English football celebrations)

Decision to allow the fan zone in Glasgow Green with a capacity of 6k EVERY DAY on top of Hampden 12k was made this week.
Covid rates are: 140+/100k
Glasgow one of the only Scottish areas still in L3 & no indication of when restrictions may be lifted.

..nobody knows that it’ll be less risky in 16 days time. And the city centre might have been spared if Ibrox had been opened up, that’s the point?

I am not defending Rangers fans. If you look at my other posts I’m strongly of the opinion the league shouldn’t have gone ahead full stop.

My issue is that people/media/politicians continuously spout off the same spiel about how awful these “fans” are. Like this is new information. Absolutely shocking that a bunch of thugs and neds acted abhorrently when all riled up on a title win, after being locked in the house for a year. Who would’ve ever thunk it. It’s not like they did it two months earlier in exactly the same place.

Surely you need to question who allowed this to unfold, again, and why? Perhaps opening up Ibrox wouldn’t have helped - nobody knows either way - but after what happened in March it might’ve been an idea to try figure out a better plan for handling it this time around if it absolutely had to go ahead. It’s clear there’s too much money in football for it to be cancelled altogether, so unfortunately Glaswegians are forever subjected to this shite.

Constantly repeating how awful these individuals are is pointless. The fact that they’re consistently allowed to do whatever they want is a major issue here, so at least some of the anger on this thread is misplaced

@awaynboilyurheid

Why do we stilll have Catholic schools and non catholic or non denominational as they are called? Why cant ALL children go to their local school, then have seperate RE lessons when needed ? I am from a mixed religious family, the half on my fathers side are Roman catholic and my mothers side Protestant, I dont get Glasgows religious divide in schooling. I believe it breeds religious bigotry, and then encourages the division into Celtic and Rangers, no amount of telling me otherwise will convince me, we are making children from a very early age think that religion divides and seperates us all.
I 100% agree with you. I live in England now and we obviously have RC and CofE schools but no one really gives a crap. I have RC friends who send their kids to non denominational schools and vice versa. However that’s because they don’t have centuries of bitterness behind them. It’s ridiculous that I never got to know the RC kids in my town because they got on a bus to go to the RC school there. I didn’t really have any RC friend until uni.
