So irresponsible. Here we go again. Will Glasgow ever be out of lockdown?

My friend was in Princess Sq for her birthday lunch and was planning shopping after but decided to leave due to all the drunken thugs .

StarryEyeSurprise · 15/05/2021 20:59
  • Princes even!
MrsRockAndRoll · 15/05/2021 21:04

@MotherofTerriers

Why is this being allowed when people have had to sit alone at funerals and stay away from relatives in hospitals and care homes?

Total double standards

Its awful. We're going to be in level 3 for a lot more than an extra week.

Ladylunchalot · 15/05/2021 21:31

No doubt it'll spread to the surrounding areas like Lanarkshire (where I am) and we'll be back up to level 3 before we know it.
So frustrating.

OppsUpsSide · 15/05/2021 21:33

The problem is there is the police have one set of rules for some, and another for others. The fact they get away with it shows their power, which is scary in itself

SandyCane · 15/05/2021 21:44

They have all turned on each other now, battering each other in the street.

It's not even a celebration. It's just gangs of angry men fulled by drink and hate.

They've forced business in the city centre to close that are already struggled, I've read that parts of queen st station have been smashed up. When will police actually intervene?!

And that's not even taking covid into account!

They've turned the centre of our biggest city into a no go area yet again. It really makes me want to move away.
florafoxtrot · 15/05/2021 21:50

Oh for goodness sakes Angry

StarryEyeSurprise · 15/05/2021 21:54

I'd hate to be an A and E nurse working tonight. 😪

ParkheadParadise · 15/05/2021 21:55

It's fucking Disgraceful behaviour.

DollyMixtureLulus · 15/05/2021 21:58

Complete and utter disgrace.

Raffleyourdoughnut · 15/05/2021 21:59

Unfortunately it's happening all over Glasgow. My stupid rangers fan neighbours have been setting fireworks off all day.

They have 55 banners all over their house and tied to the lampposts. They are both selfish and bloody thick. They have won their 1st spl title not 55. Old co rangers won all those titles not sevco Hmm

GintyMcGinty · 15/05/2021 22:00

Unfortunately after the politicians, including SNP Ministers, cheered on protesters in Glasgow just a few days ago it makes it rather difficult for them and others to now condemn football fans.

Emmmmmm is this post for real?

I'm guessing you haven't seen any of the rangers footage because the two situations aren't even close to comparable.

Peaceful protest

vs

drunk
disorderly
sectarian
violent
destroying public and private property

This should be condemned in actions and words. Arrest every last person there and get every single one cleaning up the vandalism.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 15/05/2021 22:06

@forfucksakenett yes the government did advocate the protests. They also knew about this March and allowed it to go ahead. There is no enforcement.

The pp is bang on with what they said.

forfucksakenett · 15/05/2021 22:14

This isn't a March.

The government has been working with the club to try and get the fans to stay at home and the riot police have been trying to remove them from the city centre for an hour at least.

I'm not sure what your point is.

As few hundred people protested peacefully to stop their neighbour being taken away in a van. A few thousand rangers fans have descended upon the city centre and caused utter carnage and violence.

OP posts:
StarryEyeSurprise · 15/05/2021 22:17

The Government can't force Police Scotland to do anything operationally. It's up to the strategic commanders to decide how to implement the law.

IceSwallowCome · 15/05/2021 22:19

You wouldn't have had to be Mystic Meg to predict this sort of thing happening. If Celtic had won the league they'd be gathering in their thousands as well, unless you're one of the deluded who seem to think they'd be at home celebrating 10 in a row with a quiet cup of tea and a biscuit. The government/ police/ whoever should have seen this coming MONTHS ago and tried to contain it then. It's all very well and good to say they shouldn't be gathering at all, but that was never going to happen no matter who won the league.

Bramble88 · 15/05/2021 22:19

Im in shock that the dispersal order was given so late. The scenes today are embrassing and disgraceful. Shame on Rangers fans

IceSwallowCome · 15/05/2021 22:21

"As few hundred people protested peacefully to stop their neighbour being taken away in a van. A few thousand rangers fans have descended upon the city centre and caused utter carnage and violence."

OP can you clarify what the point of this thread is? I thought it was about covid since lockdowns were mentioned in the OP. If so, a mass gathering is a mass gathering no matter what the noble intention behind it is and covid doesn't discriminate.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/05/2021 22:22

They are an embarrassment to the city. I genuinely don't understand why the club isn't sanctioned in some way - it's the only thing I can see working.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/05/2021 22:23

If so, a mass gathering is a mass gathering no matter what the noble intention behind it is and covid doesn't discriminate.

It's about risk Vs reward. The reward for the anti-eviction protest is arguably worth the risk.

A bunch of drunk blokes smashing up the city centre and each other whilst belting out hate speech songs is not arguably worth the risk.

NorthDowns · 15/05/2021 22:24

Oh come on the same would’ve happened if Celtic had won 10 in a row, the fans would’ve been celebrating & running riot all over the city. It’s only a problem for some because it’s Rangers fans.
