Randomising going on. Labour bombed it. I was politically adrift yesterday but now I'm sunk.

AnnieHooo · 07/05/2021 21:18

Ach I'm just pleased for Jackie.

OP posts:
ScotlandUnited · 07/05/2021 22:54

Pleased for Jackie too.

She's my MSP and helped me personally with a particular issue.

Horehound · 07/05/2021 22:56

Has alba actually ranked though because the list seats haven't been announced Confused
I'm surprised how well SNP are doing actually what with hating women and all that

GreenChips · 07/05/2021 22:59

Salmond has said he's expecting no seats. Think they are estimated to be sitting with around 2% of list vote which wouldn't give any seats.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 07/05/2021 23:01

Thing is, they all hate women so that becomes a bit of a non-issue in the decision making process. If your second most important issue is independence then you'll vote SNP.

And yes I know the Tories didn't support the HCB but they don't give a shiny shit about women in any other way.

Srirachachacha · 07/05/2021 23:03

Can we just get independence and the tory voters Borders can go with England already?

Oh yes I know, I voted SNP and hate them at the moment but I had no choice really as I want independence.

Ah I see. Thanks

So only SNP voters will be welcome in your new independent paradise?

Nice.

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/05/2021 08:42

Indeed @RaspberryCoulis. There's plenty of tory voters elsewhere too, and plenty of right wing voters currently voting SNP because they are pro indy. Most tory voters aren't hard right extremists, they're moderately right or even centrist, which is a perfectly normal political standpoint.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/05/2021 09:16

So at the half way point it looks pretty much like ‘as you were’. There’s likely to be small majority of seats held by Nationalists, but with the majority of votes going to pro U.K. parties. The SNP will claim this as a ‘clear mandate’ for Indyref2, Boris will say no because recovery is most important right now, and will quite legitimately point to the wishes of the majority of voters. The SNP will launch legal challenges which the U.K. govt will oppose. The courts will probably rule that any referendum is illegal because Section 30 powers lie with Westminster, and it seems unlikely Indyref2 happens any time soon. But after a pandemic that has absolutely devastated Scottish business and the economy, the SG’s focus will be not on recovery, but on trying to gerrymander another referendum against the wishes of the majority of voters. Buckle in for a rough few years everyone.

Horehound · 08/05/2021 09:23

I'm voting SNP to get Independence. After that I'd not be voting for them and I think there'd be plenty others thinking the same way. I was so close to voting conservative this time but had to go for SNP because I do want independence.

Horehound · 08/05/2021 09:24

Yes I agree this is going to be shit.
AnnieHooo · 08/05/2021 10:06

I don't vote SNP because I don't want to separate from rUk. I think a lot of people will vote SNP for the short term but they don't want independence.

Hmm see I feel the opposite: that people will only vote for them because of independence!
Srirachachacha · 08/05/2021 11:14

@RaspberryCoulis where did I mention SNP?

The borders are blue, again. I don't understand why Scots vote for the tories - frankly I don't understand why anyone does.

smellycats · 08/05/2021 11:19

@Srirachachacha

I live in the borders and loathe the tories. I can't stand the nationalistic mentality that individuals can decide who 'deserves' to be defined Scottish. It's comments like these that make me think there IS strong cultural commonality between England and Scotland: both have a nauseating sense of entitlement partly born out of flag waving nationalism.
Bloodypunkrockers · 08/05/2021 11:26

I don't understand?

Do you want to move the England/Scotland northwards?

And is that all Tory voters that should have to move

That's rational.

midgedude · 08/05/2021 11:27

People living by borders often are less keen on borders

LizzieMacQueen · 08/05/2021 11:34

SNP are just under 50% reported results (atm 47%) so that's not a majority in favour of separating from rUK.

Yep and at what a cost when so many people are on furlough or have lost their jobs! Wish SNP would pay attention to how many people tactically voted as an indication that many people want recovery first!

They are also voting Conservative in the poor areas of the rest of the UK too.... again makes no sense.

What would independent supporters suggest happens with the border with England though should Scotland become independent?

RedactedTaeFeck · 08/05/2021 11:44

Oh back to the "you are not Scottish enough if you don't want independence/the SNP" ... How odious and tedious.

Interestingly (behind a paywall so here is the key headline):

Scottish Tory manifesto most popular on 'blind test', research finds
A Savanta Comres survey found that 21 per cent of voters preferred the Conservative manifesto, compared to 15 for the SNP and 13 for Labour

RaspberryCoulis · 08/05/2021 12:23

@LizzieMacQueen

But that doesn't matter to them. That Forbes woman has just been on BBC - "we have the most seats, overwhelming mandate blah blah blah".
Horehound · 08/05/2021 12:25

Which I can kind of understand. It means nothing if people vote in dribs and drabs for other parties. If people wanted to be tactical they should have voted for the biggest opposition party.
