Under 50's vaccines

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 17:41

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

I'm 43 I haven't had an invite yet.
My sister and bil both 49 are getting their vaccines on Fri.

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 18:09

Oh that’s promising @ParkheadParadise they’re the first I’ve heard of with an invite although most folk I know are 45 and under so if they’re working down in age we’ll be later.

Dh is 51 and got his today. I got mine 5 weeks ago as I have underlying health conditions. So it has moved pretty fast here.

Not sure how they plan to allocate the under 50's though.

ParkheadParadise · 06/04/2021 18:48

It's weird @emmathedilemma because a couple of my older siblings(51,53) haven't had their vaccine letters yet. My sister lives in a different LA from us.

Windyone · 06/04/2021 18:52

I registered as an unpaid carer but actually got it as my age group was being done. I’m 49 it’s an island in Argyll and Bute

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 19:02

Ah, I think the islands have progressed quicker @Windyone I saw a post that a friend shared in Orkney and they were having a week with an age group a day and hourly slots each day allocated by surname and people were to just turn up in their relevant day / time so they've probably done most people!

@emmathedilemma yes I think you're right I feel very lucky. That was the last day of First vaccines they're doing second vaccines now and don't know when they will resume firsts

Littlemissweepy · 07/04/2021 09:16

Not got my invite yet, am early 40s. I don’t expect my jab until May. All over 50s to be done by mid April and then rest of April no first dose appointments to be prioritized over second doses was what I had heard.

But we have a batch of Moderna arriving on Monday and given I don’t think they are mixing brands for first and second doses they might get cracking on the under 50s from then.

emmathedilemma · 07/04/2021 11:10

The moderna is my hope @Littlemissweepy I think you're right that it should be two doses of the same vaccine.

I'm 48, DH is 49. Neither of us have had an invitation for a test in East Dunbartonshire. They're still working through 50-55 here, my friend who is 53 is having hers today. The OMNI calculator has slipped - a few weeks ago it said my group would be starting on 8th April, that's now gone back to between 17th April and 6th May.

Having said that, i'm at the phlebotomist at the GP for a blood test this morning and if they have a wee dose going free I'll be asking for it!!

dementedpixie · 09/04/2021 09:07

My 2 brothers have had their now and are 50 and 52. I've not been invited yet - I'm 47. North lanarkshire

Lemondrops41 · 09/04/2021 09:31

I'm 45, In my NHS board they are doing 2nd doses only for the next two weeks then hope to start 40-49 from mid April depending on vaccine supply.

If everyone starts refusing the Astra Zenica I could see people who don't mind having it getting vaccinated quicker and those who want to wait for a different one having to wait longer.

Flossy05 · 09/04/2021 17:04

I have been wondering the same- also getting impatient!
I have heard that the over 40s in Northern Ireland are now able to book vaccine appointments which seems strange as surely all 4 nations are subject to the same shortage issues.

ShellieEllie · 09/04/2021 17:16

@ParkheadParadise

They don't need to wait for a letter, they just need to book on the NHS website.
dementedpixie · 09/04/2021 17:18

I didn't think you could book online in Scotland

emmathedilemma · 09/04/2021 19:17

You can’t just book online in Scotland @ShellieEllie that’s the English system (hence why I specifically asked this on the Scotland forum).
Yes, I saw the Northern Ireland thing too @Flossy05 weirdly it popped up in my Facebook ads!

OP posts:
Mistressinthetulips · 10/04/2021 20:47

If the people who don't want the vaccine just don't show up it won't release any appointments at the time.
I don't think you can book online either, I could change mine online but had to have the appointment letter first to do that.

emmathedilemma · 10/04/2021 21:48

That’s absolutely how it works up here @Mistressinthetulips I fear that even if people turn down their invites that they seem to be coming out at such short notice that they won’t have time to reallocate them using the post. It’s such an archaic system!

Watching with interest, so keen to get my vaccine too but Glasgow seem slow in their rollout

LadyJaye · 11/04/2021 03:42

41, in Glasgow.

I don't think they're slow in their rollout per se, just by dint of being the largest health authority in Scotland, I assume they have more stuff to do.

jabbathebutt · 11/04/2021 06:46

40, getting mine next week, I'm vulnerable though

should have gotten it ages ago

Callisto1 · 12/04/2021 23:48

Does anyone have any idea what is happening with vaccinations for under 50s in Scotland? England seems to have started on the over 40s.

Yes, I want to know too. It’s all over the news that England is now inviting 45-50 officially.
emmathedilemma · 13/04/2021 09:24

I've just been looking on the BBC website and there's been no mention of Scotland yet looking at the stats the majority of over 50's have been done. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-53511877

The omni calculator thing is still saying between 18/4 and 19/5 - I put in 49 years old and also 45 and got the same dates.
The only 49 year old I know has not had a letter yet, but could still within that time frame?
