Under 50's vaccines

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 17:41

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

@Haydaywithbellson

I did get mine (Lothian) Smile and was able to change it online just now and have brought it over a week closer, in fact it's at the end of this week.
DH did the same and is now at the weekend - 10 days earlier and at our closest centre. He could actually have had an appointment tomorrow there if he wanted (I'd take that one if there was a way to!). It does beg the question if there are loads of available appointments sooner why are they not being offered?
Mistressinthetulips · 20/04/2021 22:36

Wrong thread?

Mistressinthetulips · 20/04/2021 22:38

They've just said 30000 vaccine appointments missed in Lothian.

Mistressinthetulips · 20/04/2021 22:38

Sorry, just said on the news!

dementedpixie · 20/04/2021 22:43

Their appointments are probably still in the post!
IamMummyhearmeROAR · 20/04/2021 22:46

I'm 49 and in Perthshire. Got my blue letter today!

Twintub · 20/04/2021 23:04

They said 45-49 were next I think that was the range and I got mine in the post today as did some other friends

GreenTeaBlackCoffeeAndRedWine · 20/04/2021 23:10

I'm under 30 so guessing my age group will be a long while away yet and even slower probably because they can't use the AZ one.

Those I know in the 45-49 group are starting to get letters now (I'm in Ayrshire)

RaspberryCoulis · 21/04/2021 08:21

Have just brought mine forward to next Tuesday evening. Have heard a few people reporting flu-like symptoms after and I'd prefer that DH and I weren't feeling crap at the same time.

ChrisQuean · 21/04/2021 08:48

Very interesting to know how easy it is to bring appointments forward up to two weeks! I’ll be trying to do the same when I get my letter. But Shock that there have been so many missed appointments!

My elderly neighbour had her second dose of AZ at the Edinburgh Conference Centre two days ago. She said it was dead quiet and lots of staff unoccupied. She arrived early and was taken straight away. They need to get people - anyone - through the door as quick as possible.

Please let it be me today too!

ParkheadParadise · 21/04/2021 08:55

@ChrisQuean
Fingers crossed the postman has a blue envelope with your name on it.

RaspberryCoulis · 21/04/2021 08:55

Not that easy, @ChrisQuean. I checked several centres near me - I am on the outskirts of Glasgow so can travel across the city. Nothing at the Hydro which is the biggest. Nothing this week at all in the places I checked. But got one on Tuesday evening at the Donald Dewar sports centre in Drumchapel which isn't too far away. Now my slot which I had for the 30th is free for someone else to book.

Getting an earlier slot depends on people who are offered a vaccine appointment going onto the website, registering, and proactively changing or cancelling their slot, not everyone;'s going to do that, some people are just going to see that their appointment doesn't suit them and won't turn up.

mondaywine · 21/04/2021 09:01

Glad to hear that some people are getting appointments through all over but especially in Lothians. Gives me hope that ours may arrive in the next few days. However I have everything crossed for a weekend appointment as otherwise I’ll need to find cover for my class which won’t be easy!

RaspberryCoulis · 21/04/2021 09:26

Not sure about Lothian @mondaywine but there are evening appointments up to about 8pm available near me.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 21/04/2021 10:02

It was very easy to change DH's online too and bring it forward to this week - lots of appointments available at somewhere local to us. We're both in 45-49 group, I'm 48, no letter for me yet.

TeenTraumaTrials · 21/04/2021 10:45

There were loads of Saturday and Sunday appointments available at Queen Margaret when we were looking mondaywine. Like I said there was an appointment there this morning when we looked last night. I'd have been there like a shot if there was a way to book it but as I haven't had my letter I don't have my code yet and you need that to book. Chances are at this late stage that's now a wasted slot but sounds like there are loads of them if centres aren't busy - surely there's a more efficient way to do things. When my letter comes in I will be looking to change to the soonest appointment wherever it is!
Icannever · 21/04/2021 14:21

So Fife council are still setting up locations to vaccinate the under 50s in. Who knows what was wrong with the ones they were already using 😡. Now they are just about ready to start 😡

Under 50's vaccines
prettybird · 21/04/2021 14:27

If you ring up to find out when your appointment is, you'll also be given your number.

I did that about a week before I actually got my blue letter (I was twitchy because even though I was 59 at the time Wink, I'd never received an invitation for the flu jab).

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 21/04/2021 14:39

Is that 30,000 missed appointments in Lothian alone? It doesn't seem a very efficient system - maybe the bookable system being used in England means less missed appointments. I had mine at the EICC in Edinburgh and yes it was pretty quiet - but great as in straight in and out.

ChrisQuean · 21/04/2021 14:45

@prettybird. Yes that true, but only if your details have been uploaded and your letter has been generated on the system, even if you haven’t received it. I called up the helpline and my details weren’t on there yet, even though I’m 45, so no information as to when I will get on the system and my appointment date.

toucancancan · 21/04/2021 15:11

prettybird did you call the call NHS vaccination number 0800 030 8013 to ask when your appointment was?

prettybird · 21/04/2021 15:32

Yes I did. Iirc, it was then option 2.

toucancancan · 21/04/2021 16:17

Thanks prettybird I'm going to try that tack and see how I get on.

Haydaywithbellson · 21/04/2021 17:20

I'm not sure what's going on with the appointments. We were looking at the same venue that the appt was actually for, in a couple of weeks, and it had morning, afternoon and evening appointments for this Saturday. I think more are being added, I can't believe that many people rearranged their appointments from Saturday.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/04/2021 14:16

@Haydaywithbellson - when DH rearranged his earlier in the week (original appt was 30th April) there were slots available all day every day at a nearer centre this week. But even though I'm 48, I can't book one as don't have my letter yet. Rang the helpline today and they said to leave it another couple of weeks. So infuriating.
