Under 50's vaccines

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

I know several 50 year olds getting theirs this week so they're obviously right at end of that age group. If they're carrying on the letters for 45-49 should be out for next week but they're notAngry

emmathedilemma · 13/04/2021 11:29

I don't trust that Omni calculator @Mistressinthetulips ! Last week when i posted this it said 10-19th April for my first dose and now it's 18/4 - 19/5!
Queen Nicola is doing an update at 12 so I wonder if there'll be any news.

@toucancancan

Watching with interest, so keen to get my vaccine too but Glasgow seem slow in their rollout
It isn't just Glasgow - Glasgow (47%), Edinburgh (45%), Aberdeen (50%), Dundee (55%) Cities are all slower than the other local authorities which are mostly in excess of 60% now. Can only assume it will be something to do with challenges around high population density in these areas.

I am 52 and dh and I had our first dose last week, which was all within 2 weeks of same age group work colleagues in other areas, including in and around Glasgow, receiving theirs. We just had 6 days notice it was coming when the blue envelopes arrived through the door.

It's on its way!

dementedpixie · 13/04/2021 11:39

How do you find the % vaccinated? I'm in North Lanarkshire and in the 45-49 age group

Scot gov dashboard, you can look at NHS board, LA and age level

I just don't understand how Scotland can (still) be so far behind. News today is reporting bookings open for 45+ in England, my friend (48) in NI has got his letter to book but we're still at only around 40-60% of over 50's. And we now have Moderna so surely should be ramping up again as that can't be used for second doses. Me and DH are both late 40's - he's months off being 50 and a non-NHS emergency services worker and getting increasing frustrated that friends who are only months older than him but WFH and literally not leaving the house other than to exercise have now had their first doses. I know we're in the pre-election period but we need to know when we're moving into the next group.

dementedpixie · 13/04/2021 11:51

That seems to say 94.3% of 50-54 have had their 1st dose in Lanarkshire which is good

WeAllHaveWings · 13/04/2021 11:58

Where do you get that information, other than anecdotally?

It isn't overall. All the countries are relatively in line with each other although their approaches and priorities may be different. NI seems to be lagging a little.

Percentage of population vaccinated in UK (first doses) - 48.2%

Wales 50.4%, Scotland 48.8%, England 48.2%, NI 43.6%

dementedpixie · 13/04/2021 11:59

Did we not do all care home residents and staff first which meant we started the other age groups later than England?

WeAllHaveWings · 13/04/2021 12:00

When I say "NI seems to be lagging a little", it is likely due to their vaccine supply. I am not criticising them!

dementedpixie · 13/04/2021 12:02

That dashboard link says scotland is at 58.8% of age 16+ for first dose

WeAllHaveWings · 13/04/2021 12:02

My impression is in general England's approach has been to open up the next group earlier where Scotland has been ensuring higher groups are more complete before moving on.

The difference in approaches is likely to be only a couple of weeks or so for those on the borderline between groups.

emmathedilemma · 13/04/2021 12:06

aye, they blamed us doing care homes first the slow start in the cities but I'm sure we should have ramped up beyond that by now @dementedpixie
It's the lack of comms on it that baffles me. NHS England have put so much out in the news and it barely gets a mention up here.
Doesn't that travelling tabby website use % of total population not % of adult population?

So many ways to slice and dice data giving different impressions, there are so many variables that impact figures. Scotland and Wales have (slightly) older populations than England and NI, which might account for some differences, rural communities in all UK counties are likely to have older populations so their LA level of % vaccinated will appear higher etc.

emmathedilemma · 13/04/2021 13:49

lies, damn lies and statistics ;)

From the % vaccinated there really isn't much difference between the nations. I just find the waiting for info frustrating. And as things are opening up I would like to stop worrying about the risks of getting Covid and ending up with some bad long term effect when we will likely be offered vaccines within a month.

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 13/04/2021 14:20

I'm 51 and got mine yesterday but my blue letter only arrived less than a week ago. Friends in Glasgow and Edinburgh had their letters much earlier. I'm in West Lothian. The 50-55 cohort seems to be being done this week here.

roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 13/04/2021 14:22

Scotland has done all those over 30 with who are both CV and CEV before they got into the 50+ year olds. I think that was sensible. So we're a bit behind England in terms of age groups.

not true. I have multiple disabilities and I'm only getting my first jag this Saturday coming.
emmathedilemma · 13/04/2021 15:51

Didn't England do that too @roundturnandtwohalfhitches
You can multiple disabilities but it doesn't necessarily mean you're CV or CEV.

Gosh, Nicola isn't doing such a great job after all.

Lockdownbear · 13/04/2021 15:59

I'd be tempted to think that the 'unpaid carer' route might be partly what's slowing it down for everyone.
Especially since its a website, tick the box, no need to say who you care for or in what capacity.
