Under 50's vaccines

emmathedilemma · 06/04/2021 17:41

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

Yes, I know a few folk who have gone down the unpaid carer route to get the vaccine faster. You don't need any proof that you are caring for someone.

Groovee · 13/04/2021 16:35

That omni calculator still says April for me when I had it 5 weeks ago.

TeenTraumaTrials · 13/04/2021 17:13

WeAllHaveWings - I meant behind in terms of starting the next group - particularly as in NI letters to 45+ were arriving last week. But in any case the news today is very welcome (if a bit delayed).

pawsbaws · 16/04/2021 11:37

So has anybody under 50 received a letter yet?

emmathedilemma · 16/04/2021 11:55

@pawsbaws

So has anybody under 50 received a letter yet?
No that I've heard

We are both the 45-49 age group and have no letter yet. We are NHS Lothian.

dementedpixie · 16/04/2021 12:30

Not had any here yet either - north lanarkshire (dh and I are both in that age group)

Callisto1 · 16/04/2021 19:13

Hopefully there will be letters next week. The 1st dose numbers this week were rather depressing.

Flossy05 · 16/04/2021 21:30

No letter in Forth Valley either- I am hoping it turns up next week.
Have heard a few folk saying that they are going down the unpaid carer route.
I shop for an elderly neighbour but I don’t go into the house so I wouldn’t be justified in “jumping the queue” but I think that there are many in my position who are taking advantage of the unpaid carer route.

ChrisQuean · 17/04/2021 13:33

DH and I are NHS Lothian and both 45-50 bracket. No letters here, but this morning I got a text from the NHS inviting me to book a vaccine appointment. My hopes went sky high. Not a scam - the NHS had my basic details (DoB and mobile number) a result of living in England for a few years and so they sent me a text and booking link 😩. Typing in my EH postcode, the website still offered me an appointment tomorrow morning at my nearest vaccination centre - Boots in Berwick Upon Tweed. Tempted to drive 50 miles! 😀

ChrisQuean · 17/04/2021 13:37

Oh, and I called the Scottish NHS vaccination helpline to see if I’d be getting a blue letter and they said no letters had been generated for 45-49 age group in Lothian. So might be a week or two yet before we get anything 🙁

WeAllHaveWings · 17/04/2021 14:04

They tend to come like buses, you hear nothing then suddenly there are lots of people getting it in your area. When we got our letters for 50+ age group it was weeks after it was announced and every 50+ I knew in our housing estate got the letter on the same day with most appointments on the same day 6 days later. Dh and I were same date and time.

Mistressinthetulips · 17/04/2021 14:07

I'd drive to Berwick in a heartbeat!
It's good in a way to know the letters haven't been generated yet. The postman is thinking I'm getting over excited by his visits, I suspect.

Tragicroundabout · 18/04/2021 18:52

My colleague is 40 and lives in Angus - she had her first dose in mid March. No underlying health conditions or anything.

mondaywine · 18/04/2021 19:03

We have said that we would drive anywhere they offered us too.

Icannever · 18/04/2021 20:01

Not heard of anyone under 50 getting invites in Fife.

ChrisQuean · 18/04/2021 20:10

The text to book my jag online must be because I lived in England until a couple of years ago. Hence my “nearest” vaccination centre being just over the border. I’m registered with a GP in Edinburgh and had smears, flu jabs there, so I’m v surprised. DH didn’t get one. Seriously considering booking and driving to Berwick, but despite being in the 45+ cohort (just!) I have a 4 year old to juggle. Will keep you posted Smile.

pawsbaws · 19/04/2021 08:56

Well I just got in touch with my GP to make sure they had my address up to date (they didn’t, my fault).

He said that Glasgow still has a number of 50-59 to finish so don’t expect letters for another few weeks.

emmathedilemma · 19/04/2021 09:49

According to the latest on the BBC over 90% of 50-54 year olds have had their first vaccine and over 95% of 55-59 so I'd expect the small percentage of 50+ who haven't had it yet to at least have an appointment coming in. So why has no one 45-49 even had a letter yet?? Clearly 2nd doses are taking priority now when you look at the 1st / 2nd dose chart. I know so many of my peers in England who've now had their first dose :(

@pawbaws interesting - and a bit depressing. My mum is v anxious about her Jag2 in Glasgow. Hasn’t heard and it’s been 10wks since the first.

Prob the same in Lothian. I’m getting dozens of messages from pals and old colleagues age 45-59 in London saying they’ve been done this week. England is a booking free for all, but seems much quicker.

Callisto1 · 19/04/2021 10:06

The stats on travelling tabby suggest that 38% of over 40s have been vaccinated in Scotland so maybe it's a bit of a postcode lottery. But if they want to achieve a 100% coverage for over 50s then it may well take another week or 2 with the slow rates for 1st vaccine. The wait is hard!

maldivemoment · 19/04/2021 10:09

Hi folks

Hope you don’t mind me jumping in? Husband & I both got ours on Thursday. I’m 45, husband 46.
Argyll & Bute.

dementedpixie · 19/04/2021 10:18

Nhs lanarkshire is apparently at 94.9% of 50-54 year old so hopefully we get letters soon

dementedpixie · 19/04/2021 10:19

Lothian at 91.3%
