Under 50's vaccines

Does anyone know what's happening up here for the age groups under 50 (who don't fall into the carers / underlying health conditions etc that have already been done)?
I read that NHS England weren't planning to start them before May due to supply issues and to enable them to keep up with second doses but I haven't seen anything relating to Scotland. The BBC website just has all age groups under 50 defined as "by the end of July". The omni queue calculator reckons first dose for age 40+ between 10th & 19th April but I suspect that's fake news.
Has anyone under 50 had an invite yet??
I'm getting impatient now!!

@ResilienceWanker

I was asked if I was pregnant or breastfeeding (Edinburgh). Not sure what would have happened if I'd said yes?!
Hi! Was it immediately before getting the jab or at some point earlier on eg before queuing?

I queued for hours. If I was under time or work or childcare cover pressure and got that question after queuing for hours, that would not be ideal. If it would mean having to leave and rebook, for instance, or queue for longer. Why are they so cagey early on in the process?

If they alerted women to this issue at an earlier stage there would be the chance to take a test if it is a possibility, for instance. Last minute is really unfair.

A pregnancy test I mean.

Hi! Was it immediately before getting the jab or at some point earlier on eg before queuing?

I definitely remember it being just before the vaccine, after all the queues, but it may also have been asked at one of the 2 stages earlier on when we seemed to get "funnelled" to different parts of the venue depending on answers. I was a bit apprehensive to begin with though, and not entirely sure where I was supposed to be going, or which queue to stand in so can't remember exactly what I was asked until I actually saw the nurse with the needle and I could relax! (And pregnancy wasn't something on my mind to be aware of being asked about...being early mid 40s and past all that). I think the first funnel was entirely based on age and whether it was first or second jab, but there was a second screen quite early on, which involved a computer and some questions (as I say, I can't remember what! Blush) and there was a woman with a baby in a sling ahead of me who went in the other direction at that point, but that could have been due to age rather than baby-related. Who knows?!

We were given the patient safety leaflet for AZ to read while queuing after that (never a good idea to read that for ANY medication when you're already a bit nervous!), and that does say to mention being pregnant or breastfeeding to your nurse, to discuss whether you can be given the vaccine... But I'm sure that is missed by some people, or they didn't queue long enough to read it (and DH didn't get that leaflet where he went, so it doesn't sound universal).

I don't know, if there had been some reason why I didn't meet the AZ requirements at that point, the same nurse could have gone to get another vaccine and administered it then and there, or if I'd have had to have re-queued. I assume the venue had all vaccines there, as it was enormous, and definitely had younger people there as well as oldies like me.

So yes, I can see you have a point, and they should make it clearer earlier on - especially if there is only one vaccine type at a venue. But equally, I probably should have been more on the ball about what I was being asked Wink

Thanks for the details. Much appreciated. In a rush just now but back later.

emmathedilemma · 05/06/2021 17:23

I don’t think I got asked if I could be pregnant until I got to the nurse who did my jab. The first desk was just checking you in and confirming personal details.

@Grellbunt

Apparently in England you are asked if you are or could be pregnant. You are then given Pfizer if you say yes. I don't think this is asked here, is it? Shouldn't it be?
I was asked at both appointments if I may be pregnant.

That's interesting.

I do think that is very late in the process, too late. Particularly given that they are putting people in separate queues and indeed sometimes sending them to specific centres based on age, so you could find that you cannot be vaccinated despite having taken time off that day and so on. Those not sure might be tempted just to go ahead rather than breaking off and leaving the building to arrange a pregnancy test - if they'd been alerted to the issue at an earlier stage, as in England, they could have taken a test in their own time beforehand.
