Did the wife find out about your affair with a married man?

It seems to be affair confessional central here tonight.

If you were an unmarried woman having an affair with a married man did he get away with it or did his wife find out?

I have no skin in the game - just nosiness about the hidden volume of secrets out there. And obviously anyone could write any old rubbish.

You think you're much closer to the centre of the universe than you actually are.

Well, at least I understand a small part of how the universe actually works and that it's not governed by misogynistic soundbites even if they are, admittedly, quite punchy and I reeeeeeeally want them to be true.

Like I said, in 3, 2, 1... It's Friday, mate. Try to have some fun. Pip pip.

Disagreement is only "derailing" if you think you have a natural right not to have to defend your position. Get off your high horse.

Your experience is your experience. It may be different from other people's experience. In this case, the existence of the saying indicates very clearly that it is different from many people's experience. It's very interesting that you feel so threatened by this.

MessyDuck · 04/09/2026 14:57

Nope. 7 years now. There's been a few close calls but the wife hasn't found out.

Sakura7 · 04/09/2026 14:57

Christ, some women here really need to raise their standards. Decade long affairs with married men, honestly what is wrong with you?

The poster with the old man who thinks it's ok that she 'only' cheats on her poor partner with one person really takes the biscuit.

Allseeingallknowing · 04/09/2026 14:58

The thread title is confusing, or is it just me?

Oh there was supposed to be an image of Isa from still game

I love the bit where Isa tries to tell Victor about Jack's new lady friend Barbara being married (unbeknownst to Jack) and goes all round the houses talking about Rab the Crab and the tea set😂

No personal anecdotes about the issue, though!

NC for this. He's not married, but I have been having an affair with a man for the past year, since I moved to a new city. He has a LT girlfriend who he's been with i think about 4 or 5 years. He is a member of a well-known band from Manchester.

I've know a few people who had affairs. Here is a selection. Mainly, it proves to me that we really have NO idea what is going on behind closed doors.

My aunt and her DH had come to the end of their childless 10yr+ marriage. I think she was having an affair. She married her AP and they have been together 40yrs now. I'm not sure whether her DH was having an affair too but shortly after they split, he married a lovely lady from his office. Sadly, she died a few years ago b/c her dr didn't spot her cancer. He puts up heartbreaking FB posts from time to time about how much he misses her.

Two friends from a hobby took up together. I don't know how their spouses found out/who found out first but both marriages ended. MF and his wife had just 'celebrated' their 25th. Hobby friends ultimately married after they were together many years but by then FF was cheating on him! (once a cheater always a cheater?) FF's exH met a nice lady and has a lovely family. MF met another lady but has not married her.

Two colleagues had an intense affair. MC was married and wife was pregnant. Big boss and many other colleagues found out. MC was passed over for promotion as punishment and FC was moved to a different department. MC is still married and with more children. Other colleagues aren't sure whether his wife ever knew. New big boss has promoted him even though other colleagues made sure to spill the tea. (rumour is that big boss had an affair himself at previous company) FC had a baby, has moved jobs and is now married to the babydaddy and has had another DC.

The beautiful couple in my dad's town split up b/c she was having an affair. We were all gutted - if the beautiful people were miserable, what hope for the rest of us. Husband could see on 'find my' when she was meeting her AP. She married the AP and moved far away to live with him and took her DS (husband's son). Husband was unhappy but revealed to my dad that the marriage had been a sham for a few years.

Thinking about it, I realise, I know many more ...

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 04/09/2026 15:12

I’ve snogged / ‘did stuff’ with men that I later found out were in serious relationships and neither seem to have found out

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 04/09/2026 15:12

An aquaintance was having an affair recently and was found out via her husband seeing her chat gpt chat history where she had been discussing it and her sex life with affair partner

Nothing other than what we currently have.

Do you not feel a bit crap being with someone who is willing to be this selfish and pathetic . I mean why not just tell her at this stage ?

Angrybird76 · 04/09/2026 15:16

I know a man who had an affair was found out, his wife forgave him, he then resumed the affair, she found out again, he left her and moved in with his affair partner, then left her and moved back in with his wife! They are still together (it was a friend but we are slightly less friendly now as its all awkward as they were couple friends in a friendship group). I found out about my husbands affair and we split up. He stayed with her, but they have now split up after 4 years as he had an affair :D

How is it a waste if it's an arrangement they're both happy with?

I feel sorry for the women/men being cheated on. It can do so much damage to a person for years to come.
Even worse when there are children involved!

I'm one of those women,my ex cheated on me whilst out youngest son was a newborn & infant, he would bring our kids around her under the guise he was giving me a break, time to myself etc, I found out when our son was around 10 months & she was pregnant with his child,I asked him to leave & he moved in with her immediately,it was very difficult & still can be at times as co parenting is almost impossible. We are 5 years on & they are still together with 2 kids, can't say happily but it is what they chose,I'm still single & have been since, got my self & kids a forever home & I do the majority of all kid stuff he is meant to do every Friday night but its not always the way it works.

I was found out, about five years after it ended.

I was 20 and living at home. Our married neighbour, friend of the family, policeman started visiting us, during his work breaks. He would drop by, saying if he went home it would just disturb his DC’s right on bedtime.

I honestly thought, as did my parents, that he was visiting them. My dad asked him to ‘keep on eye on me’ whilst they were abroad for three weeks, so the visits continued. He asked me to go with him on an ‘undercover’ job to a local pub. Told me his wife couldn’t join him. I was so naive I met him outside our houses and went on the ‘job’ with him.

He and I went out together for about two years, going for a drink maybe once or twice a month. I didn’t ever sleep with him.

I had other male friends in that time, who he and his wife met. I ended this friendship when I met my husband. I told my husband about my married friend (who he worked with too). We married.

About two years into my marriage my married friend’s wife was told that he was having an affair with the school gate mother of one of his DC’s friends.

His wife told him to leave, but once they started to try and work things out, she wanted him to tell her everything so that they could start again without any lies.

That is when I was mentioned. I got an out of the blue panicked call from my married friend, asking me to corroborate what he had said.

They stayed together and are still together.

My DH threatened to leave me, we had just had our first baby. I was devastated and unable to put right what I had done years previously.

However, we also worked through it and had a second and third child…(until my husband had an affair with a female colleague and left me!

‘Come-uppance’ maybe?

(I didn’t find out and had no suspicions, until he confessed. Hindsight is a great thing!)

I don't understand what you did wrong? You met for drinks here and there but had no sexual relationship?

We lied to my family and his wife. TBH at first I thought she knew. Clearly as we continued, she didn’t.

I’m not sure if it was an affair, but definitely an emotional attachment between us.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 04/09/2026 15:33

@GoodNatural this seems very unfair! You’d told your husband about this married man before you married - had he not realised the length and extent of the relationship?

And no, you didn’t deserve that treatment at all. I hope you’re ok and happy now.

But you didn't have a romantic/sexual relationship with him, and you told your DH about him before you married?

That's not an affair unless you're leaving out substantial details.
