The ick = game over?

I'm dating this guy and sometimes he says completely innocent words or phrases that make my skin crawl and completely turn me off him and I'm genuinely thinking about ending it. So petty of me but I literally can't get past it. Defo gonna die alone at this rate 😂

Anyone else get the ick over the most minor things?

I once broke up with someone because we went for a hike and he couldn't read a map. It just put me right off.

autienotnaughty · 18/06/2022 03:49

Things dh does that gives me the ick-
Lost 4 stone and not only weighs less than me but looks tiny !!
When he hears something he doesn't like he says "seriously?" Every time , I'm Like no I'm fucking kidding!!!
Constantly makes me repeat myself -
Me - "do you know where the wipes are?"
Dh - "do I know where the wipes are?"
Me - 😡😡😡😡😡😡

Thing is we are 20 years in and have children. I just try to work past them. But if he had pulled an of this shit in first five years I'd have ran a mile!

autienotnaughty · 18/06/2022 03:54

@NinaDefoe agree re peri menopause. I have phases where I'm so angry at dh but then there's times when I remember how lucky I am and times when I just tolerate him!! The thing is he's pretty much the same through all those phases 😂😂

Spartak · 18/06/2022 04:07

I was seeing a chap just before the first lockdown, and he was OK in person. But once we had to message more as we couldn't meet, his bastardisation of the English language was just too much.

Mickey D's
Burga
Tommy K
Friyay!
Meta4
Nite nite sleep tite
Kiddies instead of children

Along with excessive use on Americanisms such as Go Figure! and period to emphasise a point.

I could never look at him the same way again.

mrsfrancinemeowington · 18/06/2022 05:49

A guy who called his mum 'mummy'. And once had an argument with her then sat down and absolutely howled and cried. Done.

Guy who said yummy when out on a date.

And one other guy who tried to nose boop me.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 18/06/2022 05:50

Was seeing someone and I knew the relationship was on its way out. Major Ick moment when he came to my house to stay the night, I watched him get out of his car, and he reached into the boot and bought out the box with all the naughty bedroom stuff in it …. I just thought “ nah mate, it’s done”

managed to avoid dtd and sacked him off.

still gives me the ick now thinking about it ! 🤢

mrsfrancinemeowington · 18/06/2022 05:53

Having said that, if my dh did those things I wouldn't feel ick. So it really depends on who it is right. I'd probably just say 'don't ever call anything yummy again', but knowing him he'd do it more to piss me off.
I don't think there's any way I'd tolerate such hairy ears on anyone else either 😄

Lifeisbeautiful01 · 18/06/2022 06:00

Anyone who uses the word ‘ain’t’ and isn’t a cockney. “I’m sure that’s what you want but it ain’t happening” 😡
My DP says ‘yay high’ and it makes me question my feelings for him. I’ve dumped men for less.

Anon778833 · 18/06/2022 06:09

I got the ick from this guy because he suddenly started acting needy. It wasn’t his fault, he hadn’t got over his wife leaving him in unusually complicated circumstances.

Then the first time we had sex, he was chanting ‘you’re mine, I’m yours, you’re mine, I’m yours’ it was definitely over after that. What was he thinking?

In the beginning I had really liked him!

summersunherewecome · 18/06/2022 06:30

Maybe 😂 but too weird for me 😂

summersunherewecome · 18/06/2022 06:36

@SpringIntoChaos my above post was for you. Thought I was replying to you but clearly not 😂

@EarthSight maybe 😆 put me off soooo bad though lol

Benjispruce4 · 18/06/2022 07:09

At 14 after a trip to the cinema, my date (who I had fancied for ages across the classroom)launched at me for a snog in the middle of the bus queue. Wasn’t aware of the word ‘ick’ then (1980s) but I sure felt it and he was a gonner back at school on the Monday.

Benjispruce4 · 18/06/2022 07:11

@MondaysChild7 oh gawd that must’ve been so awkward. You did right.

Benjispruce4 · 18/06/2022 07:14

Some of these are so funny. Great thread idea but I suspect it’s Daily Fail fodder.

Arglwydd · 18/06/2022 07:24

@SlatsandFlaps crying here! Thank god i haven’t applied my mascara yet🤣

Benjispruce4 · 18/06/2022 07:25

@EntertainingandFactual That makes me cringe and it’s why I can’t listen to Zoe Ball on radio 2. Everyone is a gorgeous boy or girl and ‘we love him’ just so fake I have to turn off. Now I actually like Zoe Ball but cannot bear all that shallow, insincere stuff. You cannot love all those people and you know not enough about them to call them gorgeous!!😡

Arglwydd · 18/06/2022 07:29

Once dated a guy who would chomp soggy Weetabix with mouth open…i feel ill just typing that…
Cannot abide the smell of it to this day if someone else is eating it. I can however eat it myself (only if consumed immediately and not soggy) which is the most baffling part 🙃 the ick works in mysterious ways

WhenDovesFly · 18/06/2022 07:45

For me it was a guy who always called eggs "eggies", referred to me as "my Lully", And who often, when recounting something, would start laughing at his own comment before he'd finished speaking, so he'd be trying to finish telling me with this screwed up face whilst sniggering. There were lots of other things besides.

Benjispruce4 · 18/06/2022 07:55

Been married for 26 years so luckily I’m not on the market but if I was I know that the trend for starting every sentence with ‘So….’ would be a definite ick generator.

Are you married to Greg Wallace?!

Oh my God! 🤮

Veryverycalmnow · 18/06/2022 08:18

Some of these ick stories have made me cry with laughter.

Slothmomma · 18/06/2022 08:27

Calling me mom, as in "yes mom", "OK mom" - done in a jokey way to something I said or did but immediate ick so I'd tell him straight away not to do it as I wasn't looking for any more kids and being called mom was also the least sexy thing in the world for obvious reasons - despite this he still occasionally did it meaning I had to once again pick him up on it. He also used to roll his eyes on a weird manner when telling a story which also gave me the ick. We are no more 😆

EntertainingandFactual · 18/06/2022 08:36

My friend’s DH gave me the ick the moment I met him. She was absolutely besotted with him when they first got together & married but I couldn’t bear to be around him.
He’s a ‘musician’ which is obviously not a problem but he jerks his head awkwardly & twitches his shoulders and body when playing the piano or guitar. It doesn’t stop there, he strains his face all over the place and gurns when singing and I can’t bear to watch.
He doesn’t do any of these things normally - only when performing.
I feel very mean.

CaptSkippy · 18/06/2022 08:40

The two times I remember getting the ick-factor both involved animal abuse/neglect. I just can't look at a guy the same way after that.
