My AirPods are where I thought they were. My husband isn’t!!

I’ve been reading mumsnet for years but not made an account until now. I can’t talk to anyone in RL and really need some advice please
My DH is on a golfing trip with a work friend in Portugal. I though I would do some housework today and was looking for my AirPods. I couldn’t find them so mentioned to DS that I didn’t want to spend time looking in case I’d left them at work.
He suggested I look on find my iPhone as that would show them. I’ve never used it before but once I reset the Apple ID I got in and saw they were in the house. ( I searched the kitchen and found them behind the pot I drop my keys and stuff in. )
I noticed that this app showed my husbands phone so clicked on it just for a nose
He’s not in Portugal. He’s in Spain!!!!!
Why the fuck would he lie about what country he he’s in unless there is something seriously dodgy going on. I watched him go from a hotel to a
Restaurant, then along the seafront, then back to the same hotel. It can’t be wrong. I can’t sleep. Is he with another woman?
Wtf do I do?????

@nearlyspringyay I hope it’s something like that. I just thought it was odd I could track him along a road and back to the same hotel

@Unicorndreams24 He messaged to say they were going for dinner and drinks. Then message to say good night. All normal.

So 4 and a bit hours drive from Faro. Not totally impossible if they’re moving around different courses I guess.

If he is cheating he doesn’t seem very clever about it.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 27/03/2022 02:47

How strange. Even if he was cheating why would he need to lie about the location!

FrozZen · 27/03/2022 02:47

I have driven the A22 many times. It is a fast road. If he is anywhere on the Algarve at all, he could be in Spain in 1hr or far less. And there are golf courses all the way from the most westerly point, all the way around past Cádiz, Sotogrande, Málaga, up to the French border.

The Algarve has been absolutely hammered by the lack of tourists this last couple of years and is lacklustre at present. The Spanish side of the border is nowhere near as reliant on tourism to survive.

I'm not saying he isn't off track, but southern Spain and Portugal are served by very good roads, and many of us would think nothing of going for tapas 2 or 3 hours away. (Probably takes us less time to do 100km than for you to get to the far side of your city to a supermarket!!)

Don't shake. All will come clear in daylight, I am sure.

Pawtriarchal · 27/03/2022 02:48

Maybe flew into Faro? Cheaper?

Sodullincomparison · 27/03/2022 02:48

Faro to the Malaga Region is a few hours journey and not one that makes much sense.

Just take screenshots and see where he goes tomorrow.

user1471457751 · 27/03/2022 02:48

You may want to consider that find my iPhone isn't always accurate. You can read up on what can interfere with location through a quick Google search. I've had my phone think I'm in North London when actually I've been over 100 miles away.

Pawtriarchal · 27/03/2022 02:48

Ask him the name of the golf course?

Spartak · 27/03/2022 02:49

@FrozZen

If he flew in to Faro (Algarve), it is about 40mins to Spain. Not far at all. The Gibraltar football team play all their matches in Portugal, and Gib is further away from Portugal than Faro is from Spain. 40mins in a cab to drink and eat tapas in Ayamonte isn't far if you spend 5 hours traipsing round a golf course. Just ask him tomorrow.
Gibraltar used to play their matches in Portugal because they didn't have a stadium that met international standards, and they didn't want to play in Spain for political reasons. It's a four hour drive away.

I think the OPs husband is lying. I'd be continuing to track where he goes over the next couple of days. It will be obvious if he's on golf course or not.

FrozZen · 27/03/2022 02:50

Ah, sorry. Well, if he has driven to Benalmadena, he most likely landed at Málaga Airport. Not Faro. Ishernormally confused about countries etc? Ask him if he is playing on the Costa del Golf? There is only one. And it is in Spain.

MsDogLady · 27/03/2022 02:50

Will be thinking of you, BadDay.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 27/03/2022 02:51

Where about was he meant to be staying in Portugal. We used to stay about 30 minutes from the Spanish border and agree you could probably drive from the border to Benalmadena in 3 hours

bruffin · 27/03/2022 02:53

My phone has photos taken in Stockholm showing up as South of France. Location can be wrong

BadDayForMe · 27/03/2022 02:55

I didn’t really pay much attention but he said he had booked into a hotel that was on a golf course. So I don’t get why he would do that then drive
(What I now know for your comments) is 4 hours away
I’m just hoping find my iPhone is wrong. Although me and my AirPods are showing as in my exact house.

FrozZen · 27/03/2022 02:55

@spartak I know why Gib played in Portugal. Doesn't change the fact that it is further from Gib to Portugal than from Faro to Spain! Being in Benalmadena though means he most likely flew in to the Costa del Sol, not Faro. Am in agreement here that something doesn't stack unless he is very (And I mean VERY) geographically challenged. And/or lying.

FrozZen · 27/03/2022 03:00

Any access to any confirmation emails for bookings etc? Or a name of the hotel rather than "an hotel on a golf course"? I'd be making a cuppa and a hot water bottle and wondering about this is in daylight though, truthfully.

Flippy87 · 27/03/2022 03:00

I’d take regular screenshots tomorrow and tonight OP of location. Also do you have access to bank account? You might be able to see his recent transactions if it’s a joint account and they will tell you if in Spain or Portugal?

Id also check the flight time and airport to see if it makes sense, check for flights to Gibraltar or Malaga from the airport he left from at around the right time (and also check to see if there even is a viable one to Faro!)

tldr · 27/03/2022 03:02

Did he fly from a small airport? Can you check what flights there were on the day/time he flew?

I also don’t understand why he’d need to lie about his location if he was cheating.

But if you’re able to actually track him, it’s not that the iPhone location is muddled.

Onthedunes · 27/03/2022 03:02

Don't tell him about the location, it gives him the opportunity to come up with an excuse such as overbooking at one resort.

Just get a PI based in Costa del Sol, many English speaking ones there, you know where he is.

PartyPlan · 27/03/2022 03:03

Can you see where he is still, as in what hotel on the app? I would check if where he is has a golf course and if the pic he sent was taken from Google.

LemonViolet · 27/03/2022 03:06

Personally I’ve always found Find My quite accurate. We use it a lot because we work very different hours, useful to see if one/other is still at workplace or not before we call etc. When I was in London and DP in Chicago I could see if he was in the apartment or out and about. I did a trip to Spain without him he could see if I was in the villa or not. Sometimes it glitches but almost always very accurate for me.

Lying about location for cheating doesn’t make sense though I agree. Why would you bother.

Mananna · 27/03/2022 03:11

What would be the point of him lying about the location, even if he was up to no good? Unless he thought you might randomly travel to Spain and catch him out??! I really wouldn't jump to any conclusions unless you have some other reason to be suspicious.

DFOD · 27/03/2022 03:13

Do you have the name of the work friend?

Could you call the hotel that they are staying at and ask for the work friend by name?
