How long do I wait for him?

We were together for 5 years.
We didn't live together and have no children.
I seen him twice a week.
One night he came over and was acting different..he told me he wanted to end it and wasn't in love with me anymore.
I text him every day (and he replied ) we have met up since and I grabbed his phone..he had been texting another woman.
I deleted her number from his phone and text her telling her he had a GF
She then blocked him.
This was November.
I have lost my temper with him when he doesn't check in with me.
The thing is he has never really experienced love.
He isn't from a loving family.
I know he loves me,he wants to be with me but is scared of something.
I told him he will regret this soon and realise how much I loved him.
How long do I wait for him?
We text daily(mostly me initiating ) but I'm trying not to kick off at him.
What is he scared of?
Commitment ?

Op, have you suffered abuse or neglect in childhood? Just think about it without answering. If so, I may be way off base, but maybe you would like to do some Googling around Emotional dysregulation. A short explanation in this link: rogersbh.org/emotional-dysregulation-facts

@GreatExpectationalized

Poor OP has had a really hard time on here. People calling her a bunny boiler etc and now you're suggesting she might have BPD 🥴. Jeez.

Haven't we all been through something similar (I'm not saying the same) at least once in our life's where in hindsight we should have acted differently.

Our mental health is being challenged anyway with a pandemic, never mind a cheating boyfriend (now ex boyfriend).

Just give her a break

I said to him "you do realise one day your gonna regret this ? And realise how stupid you've been"
He said I know

My ex said this when I broke up with him, I replied with 'I know' too. I was just agreeing with him in the hope of it being over sooner. I've not regretted it for one minute once I finally got him to leave me alone! If he wanted to be with you he would, he's not a project to be fixed. Either he doesn't want to be with you in which case let him go, or he does but he's so emotionally damaged he can't without sabotaging it and hurting you both time and time again, in which case let him go because no good can come of this.
