Thinking about it! How long have you been doing it for?

XmasHollie · 06/12/2020 18:01

I've stopped online dating, real life dating, imaginary dating, serious relationships, casual relationships the whole lot. Fuck the lot of them. Being lonely at 3am is bad enough but it's better than being constantly traumatised by men who don't appreciate your worth. I'll save a fortune on razor blades now... every cloud.

XmasHollie · 06/12/2020 18:05

I'm a 34 yr old single divorced mum too. I'm not what people want

Its just the same faces on the sites aswell it makes me feel a bit odd and depersonalised

Well I'm 36 with no kids no baggage and no dramas - nobody wants me either, not as anything other than a stepping stone or some fun anyway. Look at random ordinary people who are madly in love, then look at Kylie Minogue or Jennifer Aniston. It's all just down to luck x

No one wants me either, it's rubbish. There was one guy I'd been talking to for a while, we really connected and I honestly thought it might actually go somewhere. Lo and behold two weeks ago he stopped messaging, I've heard nothing from him since, he didn't even have the decency to tell me thanks but no thanks. It hurts more than I had imagined it would. I asked someone out earlier in the year (someone I knew in the flesh) and he said no and I was fine with it.

I think sometimes you can chat with someone online and build a connection with them that you don't get with someone in the flesh. It also makes it much easier for people to take the cowards way out and just stop messaging.

A year on from a shit split. I’m 41 with a stroppy 14 year old and a 19 month old. I want to start dating but who’s going to want me 🤷‍♀️. It’s a sad thought to be on my own forever but even trying online dating I just don’t see me meeting someone

Frenchblue · 06/12/2020 21:05

I’m this close to stopping, I’ve been on and off for a few years but without exception every man I’ve met has been either a messed up loser or dull as dishwater.

I was chatting with a guy for a few weeks and we really seemed to hit it off so I met him for a coffee yesterday to discover he was nothing like he’d come across on text and had been hiding a fairly big physical flaw (not a disability, something easily fixable). I felt awful making my excuses and leaving as soon as was polite but afterwards I was more angry that he could mislead me like that.

I’m absolutely sick of it, there’s no easy way for a late 40s single parent to meet someone but OLD is soul destroying, I’m convinced that all the decent men are happily taken and the apps get what’s left 🙄

Isitreally77 · 06/12/2020 21:08

@Frenchblue I find it soul destroying too but like you I don't see any other way of meeting someone.

sharonJJ55 · 06/12/2020 21:50

Soul destroying is exactly what it is. I know people say get a hobby to meet someone but the sort of things I'm interested in I don't think the type of man I'd want would be doing them.
How on earth are we meant to meet decent men who have their shit together? Thinking of coming off OLD until next year

XmasHollie · 06/12/2020 21:51

I appear to be too old at 34

46 and nobody wants me, I do think my weight plays a part (size 20/22) but also I have a full time job and care for my mum too so time isn’t easy in these lockdown times especially

boyfromthenorthcountry · 06/12/2020 22:01

Have you tried less swipey, more serious sites? As a 48 year old divorcee I'd be delighted to date a 34 year old.

Wannabegreenfingers · 06/12/2020 22:02

It's shit, I've managed one date. He was still wearing his wedding ring. Was chatting to another guy, totally full on and it was off putting, havent taken it further.

Most are dull as ditch water or just want sex, sigh....

BlueDaysTillChristmas · 06/12/2020 22:05

@boyfromthenorthcountry which sites are you thinking of?

boyfromthenorthcountry · 06/12/2020 22:16

I just think people are more serious about finding relationships on paid sites like eharmony and match.com which tend to have better ways of matching personalities as well as physical qualities.

XmasHollie · 06/12/2020 22:22

I found match.com dire

Fairycake2 · 06/12/2020 22:34

Amazingly I've found pof the best for dates albeit I haven't found anyone I want to see past date 5 yet! Am thinking of giving it a rest for a while though. Given we can't really meet at the moment I tend to find conversations dry up after a few days

Fairycake2 · 06/12/2020 22:35

@XmasHollie

I found match.com dire
Me too
Eesha · 06/12/2020 22:43

I was a mother of toddlers and I felt with online dating that I had to not overinvest and also set good standards. After 9 dates in 3 years, I met someone. I think you should keep at it but just dipping in and out and not taking it too seriously.

Exactly how I feel!
