The Rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. Know your worth.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Treat others as you'd like to be treated 12. Any relationship you have that could get ruined by having a conversation about your feelings, standards and/or expectations wasn't really stable enough to begin with 13. The things you choose to ignore/ tolerate now are the reasons you will break up in the future 14. OLD can get very time consuming. Keep doing other activities you enjoy.

Optional: Please give your irons (potential dates you are talking to) nicknames like Mr Scottish. Initials are allowed (Mr S) when you are an item.

@TigerDater

I'm not wasting anyone's time: I'm perfectly upfront about my intentions.

I'm sure that I could be doing something more useful with my time; as, I'm sure, could you.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 13:44

@EchoElephant Thankk you. Very good points, well made. I guess that, if someone reads it, and still contacts me — and they do, believe it or not — then we might be on the same wavelength and have a good chat. Guess that I'm not likely to be attracted to a man who's intimidated by it Blush

SimonJT · 16/04/2020 13:57

@Sunshineandflipflops Going to the pub for food in a bit, then a night out to get battered.

I got him a video message and some training sessions (online) with the man he loves most in this world (Keegan Hirst). He made me a self portrait in pancake.

Eesha · 16/04/2020 14:01

@Msyoganidra32 i met my FWB on POF plus had a few dates via there. What I liked there was you didn't need to match, you could just chat. People there seemed more down to earth I felt than say Bumble I think but there are a lot of sleazier types too.

@unambiguousbeard hope you feel better soon, different people get it differently so not necessarily as bad as reported in the media. Flowers

Yes, im glad I messaged. But I sortof had in my head that if he didn't respond/took ages again, then at least I knew. We have been swapping pics again today with light hearted chat. Not sure if we will even meet but it's a bit of fun for now.

MrDrummer · 16/04/2020 14:02

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

I'm just passing a bit of time on the dating site, that's all. Needs must in these strange times.

This sounds like you are trolling OLD, which IMHO, is not cool when you consider how much of a slog OLD can be at the best of times.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:12

@MrDrummer No, I don't agree. OLD is not there solely for those looking for serious, committed relationships. I'm passing the time. I'm upfront about that. I'm looking for men who are doing similar.

MrDrummer · 16/04/2020 14:19

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

I agree it's not just for committed relationships, but IMHO it's not for time-wasters, either. Just my opinion.

Msyoganidra32 · 16/04/2020 14:29

@Eesha thanks for your reply I ll think about it for now

Jane1978xx · 16/04/2020 14:31

I met my bf on Pof I just messaged him as he lived nearby and didn’t look like a weirdo

TigerDater · 16/04/2020 14:35

Even regular posters can be trolls of course, and be unwilling to add anything positive to discussions. Perhaps especially if they think The Pogues are genius 😂. It’s all just a laugh, innit????

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:36

I agree it's not just for committed relationships, but IMHO it's not for time-wasters, either. Just my opinion.

Agreed. But if we're both looking to make new connections during this lockdown, I don't consider that to be time wasting.

But then, you are not me. And I am not you.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:37

Perhaps especially if they think The Pogues are genius

Miaow!!

unambiguousbeard · 16/04/2020 14:39

I'm not sure what you're posting on here for @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace

You say you want feedback. You got a fair bit of it. You argue with it quite aggressively. So you clearly don't want feedback after all.

Also agree with @MrDrummer

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:40

And who's the judge of whether I'm adding anything positive? Guess that'd be you, would it?

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:42

You argue with it quite aggressively

I'm not in the slightest aggressive. Unless my 'No, I don't agree' is deemed aggressive. Disagreeing with you doesn't make me aggressive.

I've appreciated the feedback actually Smile

unambiguousbeard · 16/04/2020 14:42

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace you just seem to be someone who is looking for an argument whether that be on a dating site or on this thread. So bloody tedious.

Go and start a thread in Aibu about going out more than twice a day or something. There's plenty of people to argue with you elsewhere on mn

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:43

I'm posting here because it's a chat forum: no more, no less.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 16/04/2020 14:45

Go and start a thread in Aibu about going out more than twice a day or something.

And I got called aggressive Grin

Thisisnotwhatiwant · 16/04/2020 14:45

Can the knowledgeable people on here offer me any insight to this.... matched with a guy on tinder. Within 60 miles. Start to chat and I go back to look at his profile, says he’s 5,119 km away. Asked him where he’s based. Greenwich, London. Check and his profile says 77km. Another couple of messages. Check again. Back to 5,119. ???? I’m suspected scammer, but curious as to if there is some other explanation.

Jane1978xx · 16/04/2020 14:58

What does he do for work ? My tinder used to think I was in London a lot as it somehow picked it up off works WiFi 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thisisnotwhatiwant · 16/04/2020 15:01

He says he works for a financial technology company. It’s swapped back to 77 km again in the meantime

Jane1978xx · 16/04/2020 15:07

Could be his WiFi at work and 4g

TigerDater · 16/04/2020 15:08

Yup, I can make a judgement on that @NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace, you’re not the only person who is allowed an opinion! I don’t expect everyone to agree with me that you’re a tedious prick but I won’t get aggressive if they don’t agree with me.

Blimey, I haven’t called anyone a prick since my idiot XH, who also got off on being annoying on the pretext of ‘having a laugh’. He liked calling people wankers snd telling them what they thought as well 😂.

Thisisnotwhatiwant · 16/04/2020 15:09

Thank you for your input... much appreciated

TigerDater · 16/04/2020 15:17

thatisnot it could equally be a scammer. I always test them on where they say they live eg ‘oh yes, near the Cutty Sark?’. If they say nothing about that, they’re a scammer
