How much did your engagement ring cost?

Sorry for the nosy thread but I'm genuinely intrigued.. I see huge rocks, cute little numbers and they're all beautiful but I often wonder how people afford them and what's considered a 'normal' amount to spend? I know it used to be months salary in the old days.. Is that still the case?

£2.5k - a yellow diamond in a halo setting. I absolutely love it.

SpeckledyBanana · 10/09/2016 21:34

About £200 I think.

astormgivenflesh · 10/09/2016 21:34

@blodplod - thank you! It's a pretty simple ring but so sparkly and pretty! I love looking at my hand when i wear it! I am a big nail fan

Neither DH nor I had a wage when we got engaged. I was still in the 6th form at school and he was an undergraduate.

My engagement ring cost about £20 I think. It was the cheapest one in the shop!

Mrstumbletap · 10/09/2016 21:35

£5000

troubleatmill2011 · 10/09/2016 21:38

Mine was £2300 and I still stare at it some 6 years on. Not that's it's brought me much luck. I'd swap it for a plastic one to have romance and love back!

Blondieblondie · 10/09/2016 21:39

I want to see the ones with coloured stones pleeeease! I'd like an emerald one. Though I'd settle for a boyfriend Grin

lemonzest123 · 10/09/2016 21:39

About £1750. When we split up he told me he wanted me to keep it as a momento
....as long as I didn't hock it. I said "I can't promise that I'm afraid"

I needed the money!

I have a very traditional, simple ring exactly my taste with one, not huge, but fairly big diamond. It cost £1700 but was not brand new. Which I love, as it has a story.
It's beautiful but I would never have wanted DP to spend that much on it, it wouldn't have mattered to me if it had been £17!

My wedding ring however is going to cost a lot more than that as the main diamond is being made from our sons ashes so not only will it be costly it will also have a huge huge sentimental value.

I'm not 100% sure but I think it was around the £3k mark. The stone isn't that big, he brought the best diamond he could afford not the biggest. I love that sentiment because we aren't a flashy couple.

I brought my wedding ring on gems tv for under £200.

Sorry for the wonky photo... Was the only one of it on my phone

£68. Which still seems like a lot to me!

Blondieblondie · 10/09/2016 21:59

OhTheRoses that's lovely! That's the kind of thing I'd love with an emerald. Sapphire would probably be close second though.

Amanda89x · 10/09/2016 22:00

I think mine was about £400

Mojito6 · 10/09/2016 22:00

100 Euros bought on holiday a few years ago! It's not flashy but I love it

About £8,000. It was a complete surprise and I love it.

Jsmithy2108 · 10/09/2016 22:03

£450ish. Not your traditional ring (rose gold band with morganite stone and diamonds around it. I adore it😍

Can't remember now. Decades ago and neither of us can remember where it is... Both of us wear our wedding rings but I was never keen on wearing the engagement one. It was probably cheap/high street. We probably used the cash to add to savings. I think it was the same metal as the wedding rings so it would match/wouldn't react.

Kit30 · 10/09/2016 22:08

My DH went with the months salary thing too although it was gross not net! After our first DS was born he surprised me with a beautiful eternity ring which I know is worth a lot more. If I'm honest that one means more to me emotionally as it represents our DC and the life we've built together, not just the promise of marriage.
I do know someone who thought the standard amount was 6 months salary cause his fiancée told him that. Reader, they never did marry Grin

WipsGlitter · 10/09/2016 22:10

About £7000. I love it!!

Blackberryandapplejam · 10/09/2016 22:12

£2,000 - 30 years ago. It's lovely, simple solitaire.

Katelocks · 10/09/2016 22:12

£5,600

Pantah630 · 10/09/2016 22:13

£30 in 1992, think wedding ring was the same too, I'm not big on jewellery, more impressed with the rare Ducati I got as well, and still have.
