How much did your engagement ring cost?

Sorry for the nosy thread but I'm genuinely intrigued.. I see huge rocks, cute little numbers and they're all beautiful but I often wonder how people afford them and what's considered a 'normal' amount to spend? I know it used to be months salary in the old days.. Is that still the case?

A ridiculous amount. I never wear it because I'm too scared.

I've never cared how much it cost, dh wanted to get me a bridal ring set with a new ring to replace it when we got married but I told him I didn't want that. A price can't be put on what this ring represents to me

£500. We got engaged at 25 and that was a huge sum for dh. Wedding ring was £350 and I've no idea about my eternity ring - that was purchased as a surprise.

In my mind I had all sorts of romantic visions of dh down on one knee holding an open ring box but when it came to it, I didn't even notice he didn't have a ring for me and him telling me we'd go ring shopping was a lovely bonus.

We agree to get married on 29 Feb and then got married on 2 June so I didn't even think of myself as 'engaged', hence I don't have one. Some old friends of DH sent us an engagement card and it didn't seem relevant to me, although it was a nice gesture!

This is mine....I absolutely adore it! I think he felt under a bit of pressure to impress as he's been married before and I also used to sell diamonds, but I would've been happy with a haribo

About 70 pounds. It's perfect.

£2500, ten years ago. I later noticed that the "platinum" is magnetic, even though we bought from a supposedly reputable jeweller.

About £3000 I think. Platinum band with solitaire. The wedding ring and eternity ring have a few more diamonds too. I think I was a magpie in a former life

If I was a jewellery person he'd probably have gone more extravagant but I rarely wear jewellery (this ring is the only thing I wear on a regular basis!) so I was happy with this. Love the symbol and the fact that he picked it out for me and it goes well with my wedding ring ready for December! I think it's beautiful and that's all that matters to me :)

20 years ago, I love it as much now as I did when he gave it to me. Not a massive rock but the best quality stone he could afford.
Engagement and Wedding ring were made in Birmingham by a jeweller friend.

Engagement ring was £1700 and wedding ring was £300.

DH picked my engagement ring and I love how simple it is.

I wouldn't have picked something as expensive but it is gorgeous. I completely agree with a PP - a Haribo ring would have meant just as much to me.

Mine! £1200 and £400! 18ct White gold. Expensive enough to be a special purchase but cheap enough that they didn't wipe out hubs savings! X
