How old were you when you had a child?

I'm worrying about this. At work, anyone who reaches 30 seems panicked if they're not on their way to having a baby.

I'm nearly 30 and still single so nowhere near having children!

OP posts:

reflecting back, I think I was probably too young but now I am older I am glad they are all grown up. I have health problems now and it would be so difficult to manage if I had small children, so luckily I had them when I was young and had the energy

EdithSitwell · 03/06/2016 10:22

First and only child at 40

TinySalmon · 03/06/2016 10:28

Pregnant with first at 28 (DP 43!!) and I'm the youngest in my friendship group by at least two years. Maybe it's a London thing but women seem to be having babies here early to mid 30s for their first x

TinySalmon · 03/06/2016 10:29

Ahh dachshund just realised I repeated what you said Smile

  1. What do PP mean when they say 'unplanned'? They were using contraception and it failed or they weren't?
MumOnACornishFarm · 03/06/2016 10:52

Is this reassuring you OP? Lots of women having children in their mid 30s, late 30s and into their 40s.

First DD at 39, conceived literally within days of coming off the pill!!

Second DD due in 12 weeks - I'm now 43. Did take a good while longer to conceive this time around but the pregnancy has been lovely so far, touch wood.

Caffeinator · 03/06/2016 11:08

31

26 - although turned 27 2 days later. Around here (outskirts of London, home counties) and compared to my colleagues that's pretty young - I'm the youngest mum I think at my daughter's nursery.
We were expecting fertility issues and I wanted a child by the time I was 30, so decided to give it a go and hey presto BFP straight away. 't was a nice surprise.

We'll be waiting a few years though before having a second - DD is 2.5 now.

ReggaeShark · 03/06/2016 11:09

34 and 39. Not ideal. Mid to late 20s would be perfect.

TheTartOfAsgard · 03/06/2016 11:10

DrDreReturns · 03/06/2016 13:27

I'm 30 and pregnant with my first, fell pregnant first month of trying, im
planning to have a second, who knows but I don't think I'll panic if that doesn't happen til I'm 34. my
fiances mum had him at 39 in 1983, she was considered geriatric back in those days but I think it's very common now x

Lemonylemon · 03/06/2016 13:35

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 03/06/2016 14:33

Ohb0llocks · 03/06/2016 20:58

limon · 03/06/2016 21:07

43 and 9 months.

crayfish · 03/06/2016 21:09

Everyone's so young! Was 35 when I had DS, I'm 36 now and we are ttc#2 just now (without success) but will stop when I'm 40 if I haven't got pregnant by then.
