How old were you when you had a child?

I'm worrying about this. At work, anyone who reaches 30 seems panicked if they're not on their way to having a baby.

I'm nearly 30 and still single so nowhere near having children!

28, after 4 years of trying with IVF and 29, complete surprise, with a shock conception and MC in between them.

With hubby from the age of 17. Married at 24. DS at 35 and DD at 40. Ignore the age your friends/colleagues do things. It has to be when it works for you (or, in my case, when nature decided to allow me to finally carry babies through to full term...)

19 and 30. Bit of a gap!

SoleBizzz · 02/06/2016 21:52

24 years old . Bit early for what I wanted.

plannedshock · 02/06/2016 21:55

28 and 30 all done now. I am 31 and none of my close friends have children yet. Had we not stumbled upon fertility issues we would most likely not have them yet

I was 30 and single. Met my DH just before my 31st. Didn't start dating for 6 months and had my first child at 36.

PalePolkaDot · 02/06/2016 22:10

27 with first pregnancy - failed
Turned 29 a few days before dc1 born

Would love another DC but didn't li the small gap so would wait a couple of years so maybe 38..

SandyY2K · 02/06/2016 22:20

Just wanted to say that everyone's time varies, depending on their circumstances and of course meeting 'the one'.

Do bear in mind that having a young child as you enter your 50's can be draining, as they can be hard work and you need energy.

There was a mum at my DDs school who I honestly thought was the grandmother.

calamityjam · 02/06/2016 22:21

19, 24,26 and 31

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/06/2016 22:22

32, 34, 36.

seagreengirl · 02/06/2016 22:24

39 and 45, I know that I was very lucky.

Minime85 · 02/06/2016 22:25

27 and 30 but a lot of my friends and uni friends had them older than me and I'm 39 tomorrow so think it's a bit of a generation thing in that woman are now waiting longer. One of my uni friends only just had her first at 38.

Toria2014 · 02/06/2016 22:27

Had my first at 40

80sMum · 02/06/2016 22:29

I was 22, 24 & 25. But that was back in the '80s when it was much more commonplace for people to marry young and have children in their 20s. It's all changed now. These days it seems it's much more usual for a woman to have her first baby in her mid 30s.

PattyPenguin · 02/06/2016 22:29

Just turned 38 with 1st, nearly 40 with 2nd. Got pregnant first time of asking with both. Because I didn't meet my husband until I was 32.

My paternal grandmother had her 1st at 38 (in 1918) and went on to have 2 more. She was 36 or 37 when she met her husband.

Just heard of a mum at a colleague's school who's expecting at 43. She has older kids, but they're in primary school, so she can't have been that young when she had them.

You have a few years yet, OP.

AngelsWithFilthySouls · 02/06/2016 22:29

Just turned 28. Would have been 2 years earlier had it not been for multiple mmc.
