Bromance getting out of hand?

My dp friend treated him to a weekend away for his birthday. One night turned into 3 days when this friend booked it. It was supposed to be a night in newcastle with all the boys but when dp arrived at airport it was just the two of them and friend surprised him by letting him know at boarding that they were going abroad!

Dp is a bit annoyed as baby is on the way and if he HAD to go somewhere, he didn't want to be gone far or for long.

This friend of his is not very accepting of me and sort of pretends I don't exist- I'm never included but this, to me, is a piss take.

Would anyone else feel the same? My family think this friend needs to find a gf and stop treating my dp like one!

They're back tonight and I don't know how to play this...

Wait a minute.... if DP thought he was going for a night out in Newcastle how come he had his passport on him?

Bit strange - had he told your dp to bring his passport with him?

Ultimately though it's your dp's choice what he does, you can't blame it on the friend.

Sorry but he went for what he ttold you was a lads weekend which ended in him going abroad with one otherpperson. Surely there's only one interpretation of that

Do we think... perhaps.... being the cynical old vipers that we are.... the 'surprise trip abroad' and feigned annoyance was all a bit of a cover-up for something that they'd cooked up between them in advance and kept quiet knowing you'd never agree if they'd been honest?....

Newcastle flights are cheaper than train do the plan was always to fly hence passport. Dp is just too polite to say no.

Flying from where? Didn't know you needed a passport on internal UK flights.

And dp genuinely didn't know. He had no euros and has a really bad toothache before leabing and made enquiries as to getting treatment in newcastle if it worsened. My issue is not with dp but with his friend- he seems obsessed!

Any clues where this 'abroad' was? Prague? Brussels? The grubby fleshpots of the Hamburg Reeperbahn?

passports are generally used for id even for internal flights.

and I'd be scrutinising bank accounts....imo your dp knew fine what was planned but just didn't want n argument with you about it

Sounds to me like they were flying to Newcastle, much easier than driving or train if its a long way.

I would certainly not be very happy about the extension from one night to 3, DP should have nipped it in the bud there and then and insisted on one night only, that would probably have halted the travelling abroad plans in its tracks. I do know how it feels to have a DP with very involved friends though, it can be a pain in the arse at times!

DH had one of these when I first met him. He hated me, properly loathed me simply because his BFF loved me.
He was smart enough never to fully show his hand or be rude to my face because I would have torn his off or say anything DH could seriously object to. It was more insidious, things like extending boys trips as above, guilt tripping DH, hanging around our house all weekend suggesting trips to the pub (I don't drink), tagging along to any social event we were invited to...
He had a horrible attitude towards women in general despite having a live in girlfriend and tried everything to split us up.
DH cottoned on eventually and went NC.

Yes you need photo ID for internal flights but the op said he'd gone abroad.

So has your DP actually gone along with it, getting on the plane? Mine wouldn't. He has a strong enough mind of his own to say no, and would consider the needs of his family. Unbelievable. If this is affecting your relationship your DPs friend isn't the main problem here if your DP is enabling this.

So what do I say? Me being angry at dp is exactly what his friend is trying to achieve. Dp is not the type to lie even if the truth hurts. I wasn't best pleased About newcastle. I don't want to be angry and play into the hands of this friend but I can't be fine about it either or god knows What he'll do to step it up next time. In short, friend won't stop until dp and me are over because he wants his friend back...
