Wordsaremything · 14/04/2016 19:16

Well that was dull wasn't it. Son and Hellin online now

Katiekin201212 · 14/04/2016 19:18

How do I get onto this website or q and a?

Was dreaming there for a minute

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/04/2016 19:21

cba with that

I suppose they're trying to stir it up again as most of the new listeners have given up listening.

Poor SOC and his listening figures

Katiekin201212 · 14/04/2016 19:23

Pleeease where is this talk?

Fink · 14/04/2016 19:23

I didn't understand that at all (family in the background): who was Susan talking to in the shop? The first time, not the Fairbrother. It sounded like Alan? Or Richard?

Northernlurker · 14/04/2016 19:27

Dear me!
Sean O'Connor writes:
'We know that the statistics are that two women a week are murdered by their partners or ex-partners but the story is Helen's story. Ultimately, Rob is a subsidiary character in order to help us examine her and therefore she must be the protagonist. It is Helen's story going through the dark phase of her life, that the audience want to identify with and we hope will travel with her to some sort of positive resolution.'

Eh??? EH???????? So the stabbing was a move to a positive resolution? The having the baby in prison etc is positive????? The man's an idiot.

Katiekin201212 · 14/04/2016 19:28

northern. How can I listen to this?

Northernlurker · 14/04/2016 19:30

It's on the Archers facebook page. There's a link from the BBC site.

Katiekin201212 · 14/04/2016 19:31

Ta. Will look for it.

Northernlurker · 14/04/2016 19:33

Link here

It's typed not spoken

Katiekin201212 · 14/04/2016 19:35

Thanks for link. Couldn't find it!

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 14/04/2016 20:06

Oh, ok, silly me. I would think Helen leaving her abusive husband, dealing with a confused son, having a baby conceived during rape (and learning to love that baby) and putting a life together without that husband wouldn't have been Helens story? Wouldn't be working to a positive resolution?

I'm much more likely to identify with a character in prison than the above storyline Hmm

SOCs right of course - stabbing Rob was the best option

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 14/04/2016 20:14

I had a look for the fakebook thing but canmot actually find anything by them. Maybe because I am not on fb?

AnnieNoMouse · 14/04/2016 20:53

Fink Susan was talking to DocLok - who was not impressed with her Helen gossip

Fink · 14/04/2016 21:26

Thanks! I was thinking it was Alan and wondering why he wasn't a bit more preachy about the no gossip thing.

Then again, I thought Pip was Kirsty last night and they sound nothing like each other!

[Sigh], I always found it slightly ridiculous the way characters would overuse each others' names, but now I guess I need it. I'll petition to have Joe in every scene;he's a good one for always saying things like 'Hello, David Archer and young Josh.' TA for people who are losing their memory way before time! Grin

Stickerrocks · 14/04/2016 22:03

Dr Locke sounds like Harrison to me. I wondered why he was letting Susan gossip about Helen.

AugustaFinkNottle · 14/04/2016 22:08

Anyway, for MrsShappey (or can I call you Arthur), here's a graph

On the basis of the gospel according to Cabin Pressure, you should probably call her Minty or Libbett or Pobs.

Thymeout · 14/04/2016 22:09

Fink - I thought Susan was talking to Alan, too! There was a gentle reprimand at the end. Tho' did wonder why Alan was invited to the lunch.

Marchate · 14/04/2016 22:36

In this house, we thought it was Harrison talking to Susan and at the lunch

MrsArthurShappey · 14/04/2016 22:40

Yes, Mrs Shappey (well Knapp-Shappey to be precise!) is my MIL!

Thanks for the graph DDD, looks a bit like a knife, no?

NotnowNigel · 14/04/2016 23:35

Good point MrsAD!

CremeBrulee · 15/04/2016 00:55

Mrs ArthurShappey isn't your MIL now Mrs Knapp Shappey Shipwright after marrying the ever suave Hercules?

EBearhug · 15/04/2016 02:21

SOC is the master of gas lighting.

I agree. I caught up with the Newsnight piece. The bit which particularly annoyed me was SOC going on about people saying this is the end of the Helen & Rob story, but it's probably got years to go, so he doesn't know why they're thinking it. And I thought, probably it's got something to do with all the trailers, saturation coverage on the BBC and other areas of the press and social media - much of which SOC will have had some hand in, and people are thinking it's the end because that's exactly what he's wanted everyone to think.

Gumpendorf · 15/04/2016 06:53

I can't watch the Newsnight piece as I'm not in UK atm. The Helen and Rob story having years to run - how depressing. I hope the new editor takes a different view.
