Hot off the press: Ambridge Observer

Gruach · 18/04/2016 21:53

It's definitely Anna's job to consult with her client. Although (remembering Jessie's comment a couple of days ago) I was a little uncomfortable with her discussing their meeting with Pat.

I found it upsetting Northernlurker - it didn't feel quite like TA and the near future that Helen was shown was suicidally awful.

glowfrog · 18/04/2016 22:15

That Ambridge Observer is hilarious.

glowfrog · 18/04/2016 22:16

I think I won't bother listening to the last 2 days and will just read the synopsises on the website....

ColdTeaAgain · 18/04/2016 22:31

I've completely lost track of things lately....when is the trial? When is Helens due date?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 18/04/2016 22:38

I particularly liked the comments with contributions from PeggyBank and LilnTonic in the AO Grin Grin

enochroot · 18/04/2016 22:52

I though what Helen did say tonight will have given Anna the impression that she parked Henry in front of a DVD while she stabbed Rob, not afterwards.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/04/2016 23:11

Do you think so? It was sending me towards the (admittedly very improbable) scenario that Henwee had something to do with it.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 18/04/2016 23:41

I interpreted it as she didn't want him to see the aftermath but also maybe Rob was doing more than lunging for Henry

choccyp1g · 18/04/2016 23:50

I hope they don't write Jazzer out: he's the only character with a distinct voice.
Has there ever been a real-life case where the abused mother lies to protect the knife wielding child? Who knows, maybe it happens a lot and SOC thinks we need our awareness raising.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/04/2016 00:01

No idea. I suspect the taking the rap scenario is probably fictional. Would not police / forensics spot this?

Gruach · 19/04/2016 00:01

Marnie!

And we know SOC thinks he's channeling Hitchcock. Can't recall if that involved a knife. A gun? If Rob had forced a gun on Helen I'd be more willing to contemplate the possibility of Henry pulling the trigger. I'll find it hard to believe when/if it is revealed that Henry did serious damage with a knife.

GypsyFl0ss · 19/04/2016 06:05

So why is Helen with-holding information? The part I heard last night had Anna , I presume as I haven't been listening, telling Helen she needs to know what happened soon. And Helen saying she would tell her. I do agree that it sounds like they're building up to Henwee doing the stabbing.

bigbuttons · 19/04/2016 06:47

yes, why won't helen speak?

PseudoBadger · 19/04/2016 06:50

Dramatic tension of course! "I will tell you, soon" tune in tomorrow and the day after that poor listeners

I can't bear it if she has to give birth by herself. The thought of that!

Eastpoint · 19/04/2016 07:05

Could she be relieved she'll be giving birth in hospital, whatever happens? She really didn't want a home birth.

bigbuttons · 19/04/2016 07:33

Hmm. Accused of attempted murder or something and you won't speak.......

2rebecca · 19/04/2016 08:00

Helen sounded really calm talking to Kirsty before the stabbing. Ok she lost it and stabbed Rob but I hate the way they're now portraying her as a nut job who can't string a sentence together and refuses to see people

glowfrog · 19/04/2016 08:07

Torches and pitchforks to SOC'a house if Henry turns out to be the stabber! Who's with me?!

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 19/04/2016 08:08

I can think of one case where a father allegedly covered for his son but they were adults.

But yy to dramatic tension. Rob is inexplicably silent too.

glowfrog · 19/04/2016 08:08

I'm just hoping Helen is still working out a good story to save herself - she's right not to rush it. Grin

LillianGish · 19/04/2016 08:11

What is frustrating is that as with the Tony and the bull incident it wasn't clear what was actually happening when Knob was stabbed. If Henwee had had the knife I'd have expected a couple of "No Henry"s at the very least. If Knob was attacking Henwee I would have expected Helen needed to indicate that in some way - if Henwee had been attacked would he have meekly gone and sat in front of a dvd and then fallen asleep? And when questioned wouldn't he have said something along the lines of "Daddy was hurting me Aw-Wight". This is one of many reasons I'm glad SOC is off. I hope he is replaced by someone with a background in radio drama and not a big hitter from TV. It's a cop out for me to think that because it is radio you can blur things - if the listener hears a scene they should be party to what happened if something needs to be fudged it should take place off air. I'm perfectly happy with Hellin taking a long time to tell her story and with it going to trial in real time, with other characters speculating or not believing her but we the listeners should be clear what happened at the outset.

BYOSnowman · 19/04/2016 08:17

Eastenders have already done the child murderer sl though

I know soc likes to copy, sorry, derive inspiration from other sources, but that would be really poor

plimsolls · 19/04/2016 08:49

I think the events in the kitchen were vague on purpose so the listeners have to deal with the ambiguity and perhaps be surprised by any twists that come out during police interviews and the trial. It is a drama after all.
