Won't someone please give Kenton a kick in the FA Cup Finals, and a link to Money Saving Expert?

I'm a long-time listener, but dropped out some time ago due to ridiculous "selling the farm" plot and the nepotismic(!) changing of the Tom actor. I've just seen here that Rob isn't the father. Do you think SoC changed the storyline in response to criticisms? Surely the plot was building up to be Rob's child? I find that very unsatisfying. Anyway, as you were...

ZeroFunDame · 02/06/2015 14:30

Here's Scruff!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/06/2015 15:35

Rob did it because he is workshy.

Can you imagine the hassle of moving the cows and sorting out the flooded parlour etc etc

Instead he could go for dinner at the pub and not have to deal with consequences.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/06/2015 15:37

That's brilliant zero

ZeroFunDame · 02/06/2015 15:54

Found on the BBC Blog!

Kirk1 · 02/06/2015 17:00

Finally up to date again! When Kenton was ranting about being the "big brother " I seriously wanted David to say "Fucking act like it then" and tell him to take it up with Shula who came up with the idea in the first place. When are we going to be done with Kenton's sulk? I'm utterly fed up with it now.

ZeroFunDame · 02/06/2015 19:08

Hah. The Toby game-playing begins.

Angry
Kirk1 · 02/06/2015 19:18

Kenton never really did consider anyone's feelings but his own. I really think its time at least one of his family told him how stupid he's being.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/06/2015 19:18

How lame is pip though. I think we are definitely seeing Toby the cad

The open farm Sunday nonsense is gettibg a bit irritating

Icimoi · 02/06/2015 20:04

Pip couldn't make herself much more obvious if she ripped off her clothes and yelled "Take me, Toby! I'm yours!" could she?

ZeroFunDame · 02/06/2015 20:10

It is all rather vulgar. And depressing that they show her prioritising Toby over her proposed exciting new career. She's already been late for an interview because of him.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/06/2015 20:25

I also fear that David and Ruth reminiscing about rolls in the hay is a precursor to their daughter doing the same.

ZeroFunDame · 02/06/2015 20:49

Mmm ... Pip's too old to be a wild child - but I'm definitely gearing up for an early Fairbaby. Who shall inherit the earth Brookfield.

PseudoBadger · 02/06/2015 21:32

Charlie played Susan like a violin.

I'd love Mary Cutler to have been asked whether she's ever had to write a script for a storyline that she thinks is pants, and if so what it was like and whether she's been allowed to improve it at all.

But glad to see that she wrote Ed'n'Emmur's wedding. That was TA at its best.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/06/2015 07:18

Oh I wondered why you lot hadn't popped up on my "threads I'm on" list for a while. Here you all are! Hiding!

ZeroFunDame · 03/06/2015 07:35

My, that interview was tense. (Thank you for linking it Gasp0.)

Apologies if anyone here is the interviewer - but she didn't seem to understand how TA works for the audience. So Ms Cutler had to waste time explaining why - at a literary gathering - listeners would be asking SOC about characters' motivations.

Ici it seemed to me that she did answer your question - when she admitted that TA has, at times, been plot rather than character driven even though that is not the road she feels it should ever take.

And never have I seen the word "cross" used with more enforced restraint.

ppeatfruit · 03/06/2015 10:38

A fascinating interview thankyou Gaspode.

Charlie played Susan like a violin that quivered with pleasure, Psuedo !! I loved her non comprehension of the word symbiosis that she obviously hide from her hero Grin And her jealousy of J'lene being asked to do the bar before her. She's a good actress.

ZeroFunDame · 03/06/2015 11:15

So - people have been speculating for a while about Rob being drummed out of town.

I had a look at his CV on the cast list for The Beaux' Stratagem (National Theatre). He seems very busy - I wonder if a long term role on TA would be sustainable.

Icimoi · 03/06/2015 12:59

I'm hating this storyline about Kenton, just because it always makes me uncomfortable watch, listening to or reading about people getting into financial trouble, particularly when you can "see" them making utterly stupid decisions that everyone but they can see can only lead to disaster. I can see that it's in character for Kenton, but surely it isn't for Jolene.

Icimoi · 03/06/2015 13:00

... makes me uncomfortable watching ...

squeaver · 03/06/2015 13:12

Don't you think it was significant that Charlie heard them talking about their financial problems? I'm still sure that Justin Elliot's going to buy The Bull, thus also helping out Lilian.

JessieMcJessie · 03/06/2015 13:38

Had a look at Timothy Watson's entry on IMDB and noticed he had been in the new BBC drama " Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" ( anyone else watching this? I rather like it). I didn't recall hearing the sinister tones of Knob in that so I had a quick look on iplayer at the episode he was in....and there he was, playing a French Admiral, speaking entirely in French with subtitles! The man is truly multi- talented.

I think his part in the NT thing is quite small but I see that it is going to be in cinemas on NT Live in September, so those of you outside London may have the chance to see him tread the boards. Someone had seen it at the NT, any good?

LillianGish · 03/06/2015 13:48

Is Justin Elliot single? Might he get together with Lillian? Agree that Kenton's financial stupidity is painful to watch, but it is entirely in character.Loved the Mary Cutler interview - I think she was quite clear that she believes plot over-riding character is the road to ruin - Mary Cutler for editor, I say!!
