I want a five bed house for 350k - where can I get it?

I’m sick of living in a poky little house with no space for anything. I want to spread out, with a separate playroom for my 3 DC where I can put all their toys so the rest of the house doesn’t look like a total bombsite 24/7. I want a toilet that’s not right next to the bedroom or the kitchen so I don’t have to smell my DH’s disgusting smells or hear him doing a number 2 whilst I’m in bed or (worse) cooking. I want a big garden so I can shove the DC outside in the summer. I want lots of bedrooms so family can actually stay with US and not have to rent a crappy Airbnb or stay at a bed and breakfast down the road. I’d quite like a kitchen we can eat in plus two reception rooms on top so we’ve got lots of space for arts and crafts, music practice and other stuff.

The problem is, I have a budget of 300k and refuse to live in a modern property because I hate them. I also want to live somewhere stunningly beautiful and preferably on the coast. Work isn’t an issue - we can do that from anywhere.

Where can I go?

Why don't you just look on RightMove like anybody else would

Last time I looked on Rightmove it wasn't able to give opinions or share experiences.

Fuck me, this is gorgeous;
Park Avenue, Whitley Bay

No views, but 5-10 min walk to the beach.
As previous posters have said - Whitley Bay/NE coast in general has everything you need.

EPea · 14/12/2020 13:58

I'm in the North East and we live in a 1930s 5-bed with everything you describe. We paid £290K just over a year ago. Lots of great options in your price bracket in this part of the world Smile

tigerbear · 14/12/2020 14:24

@EPea so jealous! I’m from the NE, but now been in London for 20 years. Desperate to return to the NE, and counting down the years until I can!

Here’s another one: five bedrooms, two reception rooms, big garden, right by the sea, £200k.

Stranraer’s not particularly pretty itself but that part of the world is gorgeous.

Maybe because you need to put in a search area first?

Which is exactly what the OP is asking.

timetochangeyourlife · 14/12/2020 15:38

OP you may.not know this but in Scotland before even viewing a house you get sent a report detailing amongst other things any structural issues from the condition of the roof to the amount of moss on the driveway and the mortgage valuation. It's really useful we've just bought a house and many looked lovely in the photos but needed a lot of work on them houses by the sea/lochs often had significant damp problems. I personally wouldn't live in Stranraer it's bit of a dump frankly although I agree the countryside around it is stunning and Oban is a loooong way from much of England it has a lot of rain there too. It's an ok town with ferries to the island which is lovely so I'm not saying don't do it. Campletown is very cheap I've never been there but Scottish friends didn't recommend it when we were looking and assuming your coming from England you have to go through something called the Rest and Be Thankful when shut (it was shut thee times this summer when we were there) its a 50+ mile extra detour.

Which is half hour drive from the coast. But it's insanely beautiful here.

Plonque · 14/12/2020 15:50

Anywhere in the north.
My current Dreamhouse is 6 bed and on the market for £360k, its beautiful.
No link, don't want anyone else buying it!

Plonque · 14/12/2020 15:53

£215k Shock

@BigusBumus

Somewhere in the Fens. Massive farmhouse type properties, loads of land and near the Norfolk coast. Just fuck all else there.
not at the minute the prices round that area have sky rocketed! im looking for a house with some land and before covid there were options...now nothing!
timetochangeyourlife · 14/12/2020 16:42

Goole earth is your friend if you're looking in areas you're not familiar with and that are a fair distance away from where you live. Amazing how many properties that look fab and a bargain on Rightmove either require major work or have a motorway/railway close by a or even a gravel quarry 200m away!

Sexnotgender · 14/12/2020 18:42

Needs some work but ❤️❤️
