I want a five bed house for 350k - where can I get it?

I’m sick of living in a poky little house with no space for anything. I want to spread out, with a separate playroom for my 3 DC where I can put all their toys so the rest of the house doesn’t look like a total bombsite 24/7. I want a toilet that’s not right next to the bedroom or the kitchen so I don’t have to smell my DH’s disgusting smells or hear him doing a number 2 whilst I’m in bed or (worse) cooking. I want a big garden so I can shove the DC outside in the summer. I want lots of bedrooms so family can actually stay with US and not have to rent a crappy Airbnb or stay at a bed and breakfast down the road. I’d quite like a kitchen we can eat in plus two reception rooms on top so we’ve got lots of space for arts and crafts, music practice and other stuff.

The problem is, I have a budget of 300k and refuse to live in a modern property because I hate them. I also want to live somewhere stunningly beautiful and preferably on the coast. Work isn’t an issue - we can do that from anywhere.

Where can I go?

Flipping heck - this one is enormous!

Why is it so cheap?!

Some stunning suggestions here, thanks!

Because it’s on Oban!
donquixotedelamancha · 14/12/2020 07:29

That's quite a large area. In much of it £350k would buy a small mansion. The point being that OP might wish to limit the criteria.

@TroysMammy

Swansea
I was going to say Swansea. Can you imagine what you could buy for £350k here
Bluesheep8 · 14/12/2020 07:37

East Yorkshire

Hornsea's lovely...

Raddledoldmisanthropist · 14/12/2020 07:39

Preston area. Newbuilds with 5 bedrooms for that.

I second this, the area is massively undervalued. As long as you can put up.with wet winters, this is in a nice villagey suburb.

Taunton in Somerset. I’ve got a big 4 bedroom terrace and it’s worth about £260. Good schools and an excellent 6th form college and fast train links to Bristol and London. Lovely countryside but a bit of a cultural desert.

Beautiful views. 20 mins to the coast. There’s a boot room between the downstairs loo and the kitchen. Plenty of reception space.

This one is lovely!

I’ve never come across this symbol on a floor plan before, does anyone know what it means? My only guess is it could be to do with wheelchairs and turning space?

ThatDreamSheep · 14/12/2020 07:42

@Marmite27 that means a spiral staircase doesn't it?

drumandthebass · 14/12/2020 07:46

I think spiral staircase too or a small step down

Probably because it's in the arse end of nowhere? Also it will have gone for more than the guide price, in scotland you typically pay up to 20% over the guide price.

DragonMamma · 14/12/2020 07:57

You won’t get much on the coast in Wales for your budget and 5 beds but there are a few options, some are a bit of a fixer upper (but liveable).

The key phrase on that listing is ‘in need of modernisation throughout’. You’d need another quarter of a million quid to tickle that one up properly I reckon.

Also looks like it sold in July, I’d be curious to know how much for.

birdseedpie · 14/12/2020 08:02

In most of the south Midlands you can

miracleatchristmas · 14/12/2020 08:03

@BigusBumus

Somewhere in the Fens. Massive farmhouse type properties, loads of land and near the Norfolk coast. Just fuck all else there.
I wouldn't agree with this - Norfolk is EXTREMELY expensive. We are in a new build 4 bed property, ticks your boxes but £534,000 and around 30 miles from the coast. I would avoid down south also - such a Sussex. Very expensive for what you get.

Wishing you the best of luck in your search! ❤️

stillfeelingmad · 14/12/2020 08:04

Tons of character, near the sea and a snug you could make a play room, not much garden though, nice area to live in

Slightly overlooked but a nice area and near the beach, town and the little orme. Choice of Welsh or English medium education in this area.

crystalize · 14/12/2020 08:29

RIPWalter that house looks great in LLandudno. That part of North Wales is stunning. Between there and Anglesey. Stunning beaches, mountains countryside plus fairly easy access to Chester/Liverpool/Manchester.

EwwSprouts · 14/12/2020 08:36
