What is your opinion? If your child attends a private school and you noticed their teacher had tattoos up arms etc….

Would It bother you? Non offensive tattoos.

OP posts:

Interesting! My children attend private schools and I am a teacher moving to a private school…I have tattoos! Curious if I should cover them up or not but thinking about when it’s hot!

OP a reverse tut tut lol ! To be fair I think the main consensus is no one’s bothered about tattoos apart from the few “odd” people.

Let's hope that same nurse doesn't have to save your life one day then 🙄

Maybe the tattoos inhibit the ability to perform medical procedures 🙄

HalzTangz · 03/03/2026 19:39

Why would non offensive tattoos bother anyone

I’m hoping they come back with a reason for their gross comment 🙄🤣

I have a sleeve & reach secondary. My schools uniform policy has changed from ‘tattoos must be covered‘ to ‘where possible, cover tattoos’. I’m bloody glad it’s changed in line with common sense as it’s sweltering in summer 😂 but I do wear loose sleeves most of the year.
I believe in Australia it isn’t legal to have a policy that mentions covering up of tattoos!? I’d love for that to be the case here (offensive ones separate issue). People who are bothered need to grow up!

Oh thank the Lord! No you don't need to cover them up

Let me guess, you were in for a labotomy?

😂😂

estrogone · 03/03/2026 19:40

As opposed to a state school teacher with tattoos.

Get over yourself.

Marchitectmummy · 03/03/2026 19:40

No, my children do go to private school and it really wouldn't worry me if one of their teachers had tattoos. I personally choose not to have them but if someone else chooses to have them then that's up to them and that freedom includes teachers.

Fairlydust · 03/03/2026 19:41

No because they are not just your child’s teacher they are a person with choices. It has put me off having my own tattoos because in my job role I think it could be judged.

dailyconniptions · 03/03/2026 19:41

I think they do look pretty bad on the whole, especially as they usually seem to end up navy blue and smudged, but they're so ubiquitous that you have to just accept them (unfortunately.) They certainly don't affect someone's skills etc but they do LOOK less professional.

Private school teachers are just normal people. Some with tattoos, some without. I’m not sure what your expectations are?!

I hope so. Dear lord. As if nursing wasn't stressful enough, now they have folks judging their skin art! Ridiculous.

BlueLegume · 03/03/2026 19:43

@bubblenance how are they as a teacher? A good teacher however they present is worth their weight in gold.

Also, and I speak from experience, if tattoos are a concern how do you feel about gay/trans/non binary/TRA teachers - who may not have tattoos?

What does "LOOK less professional" mean?
My dentist is brilliant and highly qualified. What difference does patterns on her arms make to her patient care? Genuine question.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 03/03/2026 19:45

Id be more interested in the quality of their teaching and pastoral care, even though I really dislike tattoos.

They won’t be back because they know their comment was a load of
bollocks and they’ve got no valid reason that backs it up (I will be amused if they do though 🤣)

That's a shame
You should be judged on how you do your job.

Frankenpug23 · 03/03/2026 19:46

I really don’t understand why this is even an issue?

Have people really got nothing else to worry about!

It was a reverse but interesting how it highlights people’s attitudes and how they’ve got no reason to back up their distain for tattoos

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/03/2026 19:30

There is zero chance of any kid getting to 18 and deciding that they want to look exactly like Ms Matthews who taught them the square of the hypotenuse is the sum of the squares of the adjacent sides in Y7.

People do go on about school staff being role models. Half of us couldn't begin to do that as we're positively ancient (like over 26). We operate more as a dire warning.

This! 😂 No teen anywhere has looked at a teachers appearance and gone oh ‘Mr H looks cool. I want to look like him’.

Showing my age now too as I’m pretty sure the word ‘cool’ is no longer in use either.

MauriceTheMussel · 03/03/2026 19:49

It would bother me…at a state school and certainly if I was paying for it.

The pupils have a dress code, so a teacher can’t be flouting it to such a degree. If a teacher had multiple piercings on the face, as in head, (that in my school no pupil would be allowed), I’d also think it A Bit Off.

Frankenpug23 · 03/03/2026 19:50

@Flowersandfauna and how exactly did the tattoos affect the care given to you?

Talkingtomyhouseplants · 03/03/2026 19:50

FakeTwix · 03/03/2026 18:32

It does bother me. I'm aware it's now an old fashioned view but I preferred it when teachers/doctors/nurses/police etc were expected to keep tattoos covered at work.

Am sure it doesn't impact their skill level but it does look scruffy 9/10 times. (I am being generous as I am not sure it ever looks good tbh).

Nothing to do with whether it is a private school though.

I actually agree tbh. I know it doesn’t impact on their ability to do a job but it generally sends a message of sloppiness. I don’t think tattoos look good on anyone.
