What is your opinion? If your child attends a private school and you noticed their teacher had tattoos up arms etc….

Would It bother you? Non offensive tattoos.

OP posts:

hmm, won’t bother me at all! That teacher has a life outside of teaching our children (in private or state school)
the real world is full of different types of people/different quirks etc, so better children are exposed to this. They might make for a more accepting/tolerant generation.

MrPickles73 · 05/03/2026 12:33

It wouldn't be ideal.. would depend on the tattoo.. if its a spider up their neck or hate on their forehead..

THEDEACON · 05/03/2026 13:14

Get over yourself!

But you wouldn't know if they had a tattoo not visible. Does the OP wish every teacher to be stripped butt naked to check this out upon interview, and then periodically to ensure they hadn't rebelled, and hence dismissed? 🤣

The OP is s teacher with tattoos.

You sound like a right snob. I don't understand people's obsession with them but they are very common now.

It depends what the tattoos are. Visible OK. Offensive or political not OK.

As an aside, are young people still getting tattoos? They're so ubiquitous amoung their parents middle aged people. Neither of my mid 20s DC have them and afaik, neither do their friends.

Young people are definitely still getting tattoos. Levels among Gen Z are at record highs. Us middle agers might have started the trend but we definitely haven’t finished it…

dragonfly52 · 05/03/2026 18:02

Definitely not.. Why would it?

Skates · 05/03/2026 19:27

omg Do people still think like this. Police. Paramedics. Doctors. Army All sorts of people from different backgrounds and jobs have tattoos. I’m covered in them. Never been to prison. Not a hooligan I don’t even have points on my license. Have a good job. Seriously. What century are you living in?

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 05/03/2026 20:21

No, of course not.

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 05/03/2026 20:25

Meant to add. My dc's attended, currently attend private school and my DD had an amazing art teacher who had tattoo's. Didn't cross my mind at all. She was a brilliantly teacher.

Does their own personal choice to have a tattoo on THEIR body in any way shape or form affect their mental ability to teach your child?

if your child was sick and needed a organ or blood would you state you didn’t feel comfortable if the donor had tattoos too?

I just spat my coffee out at your last sentence.
Are you really this dramatic in every day life??

of course 🤨

sidebirds · 05/03/2026 21:12

"I don't believe you have 33 tattoos. You clearly just said that to try and give your ridiculous opinion a bit of clout." incorrect on both counts. my point was that not everyone sporting a tattoo is looking for attention - in particular at the expense of professional conduct in a work setting. Teaching is an important role; not a fashion show for the frivolous and vain 🤔

Thebigarsedbitch · 05/03/2026 21:46

I hate tattoos with a passion and would probably feel inclined to tell them that they had increased their chances of contracting a blood cancer by 21.5%. However, as long as they were professionally dressed and the tattoos were mostly covered, I suppose I'd just have to suck it up.

mumsickles · 05/03/2026 22:13

Well it’s not 1990 anymore is it; people aren’t frowned upon in the workplace for this anymore there’s nothing wrong with it

CoastlineAtlantic · 05/03/2026 23:18

I would think that the teacher admired and desired a tattoo, and chose to have one knowing that it wasn't anybody's business or a barrier to their position if they had one.
It doesn't reflect the teacher's qualifications or abilities, doesn't make them a bad influence on the students and if they are fully qualified to teach children at a "private school" ( or any other kind of school come to that) who are the parents of such pupils to object?

ThankFuckTheSunIsHere · 06/03/2026 00:32

It’s not the 1950’s op.

the teacher with visible tattoos is giving a subliminal message to the children in their charge that they (the teacher) are not serious, that life is not serious, that everything is just endless frivolity.

unfit short male police officers with so-called 'man-buns' and tattoos; small female police officers sent to deal with violent males because there must be a 50/50 female/male representation...

keep it up 👍🏾

A tattoo does not impact a teacher's ability or inability to be an effective teacher.

An unfit short male police officer or small female police officers does directly impact their ability to deal with larger physically stronger violent criminals. Although presumably they would be able to deal with less fit, shorter male criminals and smaller female criminals.

Lastly men with man buns also doesn't impact the ability to do the job, but unless they are a sumo wrestler it doesn't make them look a bit of a twat.

Ceramiq · 06/03/2026 11:37

It depends on the school brand. If the school is communicating high standards of personal presentation as a value (and some schools most definitely are), then a tattoo would be inappropriate and at odds with stated values.

Teaching isn't a "mental ability" but a fully embodied transmission.
