Shall I inform the school and other parents?
The person spent 4 years in jail and I don’t feel comfortable that my child Is in one classroom as the convict’s son.
I know school probably just cares about their money but isn’t it a bad look for them to have a convict within their community?

Why is it a child's fault? Do you think your sprog will be influenced by the actions of an innocent child's parent?!

Clearly. The whole class will be gun running and drug dealing before the end of this school year!

Ginburee · 25/01/2026 13:38

Gobsmacked at the judgement in this post, don't you dare inform other parents. I cannot get over your entitlement, that poor child deserves a chance and you are out for blood.
I doubt you will return to the post but shameful OP.

Interesting thing to be posting about at 3am

its obviously kept her awake. You would be too if your kids' class wasnt full on saintly rich people. Saintly at least 5 generations back

tara66 · 25/01/2026 14:01

OP you are probably being naive - as this parent got caught so you know about them - but some other lurking criminal parents may just not have been caught (yet) don't you know?!

StMichaelPenkevil · 25/01/2026 14:05

Unless the child’s father is Fagin, I think you’ll be all right.

Foundress · 25/01/2026 14:15

I have taught many lovely children who had criminal parents or dirty and unkempt parents, alcoholic or drug addicted parents, rude and annoying parents or just plain lazy uninterested parents. No child is responsible for their parent’s lifestyle or behaviour.
When a new poster appears with a username consisting of an adjective, colour/jewel and an animal name. I am a bit suspicious. I have read that this is what MN recommends to new users as a way to formulate a username. To me it lacks imagination. This together with the two brief replies from the OP leads me to completely disregard their views on the parentage of the child involved.

Not all the white collar criminals sending their offspring to private schools. 😂

Maybe financial crime is regarded as ok, especially if they've not been caught or reported on in the media?
Lets not talk about what the proceeds of those crimes are funding either.
🙃

I went to private schools. You’ll be surprised to know that sometimes criminals are running said schools, well the owners anyway.
After I left boarding school, the owner was all over the news after being arrested for nefarious activities 😂

I live in an area with many, many private schools. Some are closing ,of the survivors many are now owned by the Chinese. They won't care how dirty a parents money is, it'll never be as dirty as the money that bought the school.

I spend time with a lot of people with children at different private schools in the area. They are either relieved that their child's school has been bought and they don't have the hassle of moving their children. Or they are ethically challenged by the buyers profile and remove their children. Generally you'll find that if you google ' X school new owners' you'll find out all about who has now bought it. Malvern St James is an easy example.

Theyre my friends State school parents talk about what school their children will attend. Private school parents do the same. They're not admitting a financial crisis to me , they're expressing relief that their child's school is now stable for the length of time their child has left at it ( important to any parent regardless if state or private surely). Or they're saying that they don't like the changes that are coming and they're not going to choose that school anymore/ are going to move their child and hope their new choice survives long enough. Nothing weird about any of that

A lot of UK private schools have been bought by Chinese companies, speeding up with Labour's attack on the sector.

Bridget Phillipson seems delighted for the children of other countries to benefit from our world-famous private education sector though, just so long as no British children get to.

I'm not sure the pp has any cause to accuse the new Chinese owners of corruption though. They just want to make sure their young expats get a great education, so that they can contribute to China's econony in 20 years time. Wish our government was so forward-thinking.

Yes of course , silly me. The Chinese communist state, well known for its warm fuzzy behaviour. Must be why no Hong Kongers got out as fast as they could ...oh wait.

Caughtletren · 25/01/2026 15:07

AngelinaFibres · 25/01/2026 09:56

You do realise that a large number of children at Eton, Harrow,Westminster will come from families where the money for their fabulous lifestyle has been obtained in the most appalling ways. The way things are going they'll end up as the only ones who can afford the fees
We had a local dominatrix ( Miss Whiplash) who wanted to make a very large donation to the small C of E state primary I taught in.It would have made a huge difference to what we could achieve but the governors felt obliged to say no. I dare say a private school would have found a way to 'clean it up a bit' before it appeared in the accounts It's all about the money.

Oh I see.

You have this kind of view of private schools

Maybe all the parents can get together and stand at the school gates with pitchforks wearing Traitor masks? Or stick and ad in the local paper in the gossip section

🤣🤣🤣

Unlike the new Chinese super-embassy, the schools don't actually become Chinese sovereign territory, so I don't think the Hong Kong parents need to worry too much. Of course, if they don't like the new educational direction, they're free to move. I wouldn't particularly blame them, but it's a choice.

But to link that with tolerance for parental criminality is rather a stretch.

strawberrybubblegum · 25/01/2026 15:13

What's criminal is the UK education secretary deliberately destroying British childrens' education. And handing it over to the children of other countries instead.

Ballycastle · 25/01/2026 15:13

I have convictions but thankfully I'm poor so will never go near a private school to influence the little cherubs.

The child didn't commit the crime.

Not 'good crimes' but not DV, child abuse etc.

It's not really your place to do this. (if you do it may backfire on you later)

The school almost certainly know. ( I knew about pupils, in my form, in this sort of situation when I was a teacher)

So no.
