Shall I inform the school and other parents?
The person spent 4 years in jail and I don’t feel comfortable that my child Is in one classroom as the convict’s son.
I know school probably just cares about their money but isn’t it a bad look for them to have a convict within their community?

People like this (criminals) shouldn’t be allowed In private schools.

You nearly had me there, but the 'private school' over-egged the pudding!
4/10!

TheRuffleandthePearl · 25/01/2026 10:41

There will be loads of dodgy, criminal activity parents with kids at your school. They’ve just been smart enough to not be caught yet.

Elsvieta · 25/01/2026 10:41

There can't be a school in the land, state or private, that hasn't got at least one parent with a criminal record. There will be others at your DC's school; you just don't know who they are. Not to mention all the parents who have done, or continue to do, criminal stuff but haven't been caught. Every school has them, and every community.

The child has more chance of making a decent living doing something legit if they get a decent education. Complaining to the school will produce no result other than fixing you permanently in the minds of the staff as that bird who's a bit nuts. Leave it.

You do realise how many criminals send their kids to private schools.

Its thousands of pounds a year.
There is only a small percentage of the country that are wealthy due to legitimate jobs.

I’m sure this isn’t real as you’d unlikely be posting at 2am.

Dontknowwhereisit · 25/01/2026 10:47

It’s highly likely that the school knows anyway. As part of the onboarding all schools to a KYC and source of funds check to ensure they are abiding by the anti money laundering regulations - aka making sure the source of funds are not coming from criminal activities. If the individual was in jail is quite possible they disclosed this to the school to ensure any flags were explainable.

Honestly - the kid didn’t do anything wrong, the dad did his time. If there was a huge safeguarding issue with the father and the nature of his crimes again the school will be fully aware of it.

if you are so concerned just move schools. As loads of people have pointed out it’s highly likely that at any one given school there is one or more parents who are partaking in criminal activity, whether they have been caught or not. Naive to think otherwise.

The gangster on the council estate may not have been a gangster at all . Maybe they inherited their money and decided to invest it in their children’s education.Or maybe their Grandparents are footing the bill ? Maybe the kids were super smart and won bursary’s ? Who knows ! It’s human nature to want better for your kids whatever your background. These parents have understood the value of a good education and contacts so good for them .

Yes he was part of a criminal gang. He was part of a gang stealing cars to order and shipping abroad.

So what has the child done to be a criminal? 🤔

You are being incredibly naive.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/01/2026 11:11

Why are you taking this out on an innocent child or did you just create this thread to brag that your child goes to private school

Stifledlife · 25/01/2026 11:12

This is almost the definition of pearl clutching..😂

MildlyAnnoyed · 25/01/2026 11:14

God no! You would set the child up to be bullied as a minimum.

Perplexin · 25/01/2026 11:14

This says a lot about you.

Hopefully, despite the future drug Lords in the private school, your child/ren grow up without prejudice having you as their parent.

The crimes of a parent should not affect an innocent child.

Sohelpmegod25 · 25/01/2026 11:14

My friend used to work in a private school as admin the stories she came back with 😂 these kids often have a lot of disposable income there was a massive Coke issue where she worked with the year 11’s and 6th formers

always remember

you can’t choose who is at any school, private or state - if you that bothered do homeschooling to keep them away from anyone who might bother you

money doesn’t buy brain cells -
if your child is bright they’ll do well wherever and if they aren’t academic no amount of money will make them

ultimately - schools need bums on seats for fees or government funding, and so unless this parent is a menace at the gates, selling drugs to kids, as people have said it’s not the child’s fault and they are as “entitled” to be there and anyone else.

BlackCrowKing · 25/01/2026 11:16

Imagine thinking private schools aren’t full to the brim with the children of serious criminals. 😂

At my son’s private school the father of one of my son’s classmates was sent down for 25 years for drugs. Turns out he was the lynchpin of a drugs running gang. There was an order made to seize his assets but they allowed school fees to be paid for his final year. Even before his conviction it was clear they were dodgy so not a massive surprise. He was actually very pleasant. His wife was like a fish wife and I used to call her the gangster’s moll in my head as she tottered in to the playground in her hooker heels with every designer brand emblazoned across every item of clothing and accessory. The very caricature of a gangster’s moll whilst tge old money stood around in shabby jackets and wellies. I would still invite her child to parties but she generally never responded and often didn’t turn up which she did with everyone so people were more pissed off at that than where they got their money from.

A friend who worked at another private school said they knew all the gangster children because their parents would always pay the fees in cash.

Another gangster lived in a council house on a very rough estate so it was very incongruous to see his children in their straw boaters being driven to their private school

To be honest, even though their money was obtained through crime, I thought at least they were trying to give their children a better life through education.

I have known a lot of criminals who’ve sent their kids to private school.

Most people get into crime because they want a better life for them and their families.

Many of them feel sending their child to private school will set them up for life.

They try and buy homes and businesses for them but if they get caught then it can be taken off of them, whereas the education already received can’t be.

I would likely send my DCs to private school too.

RealEagle · 25/01/2026 11:20

Thank you OP you have made me laugh this morning reading this

Skybluepinky · 25/01/2026 11:20

It’s a private school lots of children at the school have criminal parents, surprised you are shocked.

BillieWiper · 25/01/2026 11:20

The kid would get bullied. And they served their time. It's not the child's fault they have an ex criminal parent.

There could be loads of others who are active criminals using their dirty money to send their kids private. They've just not been caught or removed themselves from a life of criminality.

Would you really never ever allow your child to be in this sane room as another child who's related to someone who's been to prison? I don't think you'll be able to have that much control over who might come into your child's life.

Ferrfoxache · 25/01/2026 11:26

You should be ashamed of yourself for even contemplating this post.

Andouillette · 25/01/2026 11:28

Tablesandchairs23 · 25/01/2026 03:40

The child isn't a criminal. Im sure lots of kids in private school have parents on the wrong side of the law. Mind your own business.

Well quite! My DDs were privately educated, I neither knew or cared about what previous convictions any of the parents might have had. None of my business.

ERthree · 25/01/2026 11:29

Who the fuck do you think you are ? I will tell you exactly what you are , a fucking high and mighty stuck trouble making Karen that is bullying a child. Bloody shame on you.

A low level, totally illiterate, criminal from my home town, never worked a day in his life, he made enough money to send his kids to private schools and they're all highly qualified professionals now, doctors, solicitors etc.

Well you weren’t going to come back and say otherwise.

So the school your children went to wasn’t outstanding?

One was just coming out of special measures when one of our DSs started there. We looked at it and liked their values, and the steps they were taking to improve. DS came out of there better equipped for the job he’s now doing than if he’d been in an elite school.
I went to a rough comp, DH went to a rough secondary modern. We might havw achieved better academic results had we been to better schools but we came feom
very working class backgrounds. Yet we both managed to go to uni and have professional careers, in which being comfortable around all sorts of people is a bonus. We wanted the same for our children.
Doubt all you like, makes absolutley no difference to me.
