Shall I inform the school and other parents?
The person spent 4 years in jail and I don’t feel comfortable that my child Is in one classroom as the convict’s son.
I know school probably just cares about their money but isn’t it a bad look for them to have a convict within their community?

I know this is rage bait but it's also hilarious, DH is the son of a convict and also a teacher 😂 you can't escape them op, wrong 'uns and thugs everywhere

Private schools might be pretty empty if they took that approach.

Yep.

Especially one named Slytherin. (Fictional world, I know.)

Oh you are funny!

I remember Cynthia Payne who ran her brothel to pay her son's boarding school fees. Great film about her starring Julie Walters.

I think it was fraud she was convicted of, taking luncheon vouchers for services rendered.

The son was completely innocent of any crime, as will this child be.

I was literally thinking about this film the other day!

ODFOD. Imagine paying to avoid the plebs, only to discover the spawn of Satan in DC's home room!

This made me laugh so loud! Well said! 😂

LucyMay33 · 25/01/2026 12:07

If you have a problem with it then moving your child is the easiest solution.

OverlyFragrant · 25/01/2026 12:08

Hate to break it to you but many, many wealthy people get rich by crime.

ItsNotMeEither · 25/01/2026 12:09

But what about white collar criminals, surely they’re okay? After all, they are the ones who can afford to donate huge sums of money for school halls and new equipment. Without them the fees will go up.

😂😂😂

SansGonads · 25/01/2026 12:13

Oh that's so mean.
My neighbour previously did time for drugs- think it was 5 years.
His boys went to private school. Absolutely lovely boys- I do hope there wasn't a parent as vile as you around to make their lives hell.
Edited to add that the fees were in fact paid legitimately by father-in-law, not that it should make any difference as to how boys treated.

Thehop · 25/01/2026 12:13

You are being absurd

private schools aren't special. All communities and schools will have its fair mix of people.

im an ex boarding schoolie and a very good chunk of girls were escorts post A level. Private school families aren't above normal human failings you daft sod!

People like this (criminals) shouldn’t be allowed In private schools.

The child is the person in the school and the child ... isn't a criminal. HTH.

katseyes7 · 25/01/2026 12:19

So, apparently, 'the sins of the fathers.....' 🙄

katseyes7 · 25/01/2026 12:26

What you said, *CatFaceCatFace - *
One of my closest friend's dad was a murderer (and frankly it was a lot worse than just that).
My friend was one of the most decent, kind, genuine, good people l've ever met. And he was also a teacher.

Such a good one that when he died relatively young, the church was packed, not only with friends and family, but pupils and former pupils, three generations, in some cases. The messages on the cards to his family were incredibly moving.
One from a young lad said that he hated school, but my friend 'was the only person, never mind a teacher, who'd ever had time for him'.

My friend hadn't seen his father since he was a toddler. And neither he nor any of his siblings had ever done anything even remotely dodgy.

Entitled snobs like you are what gives private schools a bad name! You may well be surprised to know that there may well be other children whose parents have dubious pasts! If you don’t like it I suggest you find a school where everyone is the perfect parent which you clearly think you are!

cobrakaieaglefang · 25/01/2026 12:45

And what a surprise..no OP..

There is such a thing as people paying the time for their crimes and then having learnt from mistakes, rebuilding their lives accordingly. They are obviously doing that well if they can afford private school.

You however are being very judgemental and a bit of a twat. Sorry you don’t want to associate with lesser beings but it is not a safeguarding issue. Although i think you’ll find the really rich types are not all there through strictly legal channels either

😂😂😂 I hate to break it to you, but the places are probably full of kids, whose parents have made their money in dubious ways.

Talk about pedal clutching.

Lots of rich people are criminals. That’s why they are rich.

I think if you dig a little deeper they won’t be the only one. Don’t worry - I’m sure their child isn’t selling cocaine behind the bike sheds.

MaidOfSteel · 25/01/2026 13:23

This might be the snobbiest post I’ve ever seen on MN.

What crime has this child been convicted of?

I’d be more upset to find out that one of the parents was a politician.

Arlanymor · 25/01/2026 13:31

The idea that all families who pay for private school have made their money honestly and legitimately is hilarious. Where do you think crime bosses and drug barons send their kids - to the local comp?! I don't think so...

oldtiredcyclist · 25/01/2026 13:35

So OP, you tell the other parents, the news filters down to the pupil's classmates and they start to instantly bully him for it, making his life totally unbearable.
Would you be happy with that?
