Shall I inform the school and other parents?
The person spent 4 years in jail and I don’t feel comfortable that my child Is in one classroom as the convict’s son.
I know school probably just cares about their money but isn’t it a bad look for them to have a convict within their community?

I'd ask the school to safeguard the child against your malicious smear campaign. You singling out a child & making them identifiable must be a Confidentiality breach. If I were a parent of a child at the school, I wouldn't be impressed by your crass behaviour. I'd want to safeguard all the kids from a trashy, deranged lunatic like you who puts a child's safety at risk. All done under the pretence of safeguarding the other kids, you're just another Hyacinch Bucket.

Get a hobby

Friendlygingercat · 25/01/2026 04:51

In my experience people who go around snitching on others have far darker secrets of their own to conceal.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 25/01/2026 04:57

Ha, wise up. Go into any private school reception on the day fees are due. You’ll find more than one character paying the full fees in cash…

RosyPumpkins · 25/01/2026 05:04

Good try but a bit of an obvious wind-up tbh. B+

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/01/2026 05:10

At my private convent school we had Italian parentage pupils and one of them boasted about her Sicilian mafioso relatives. Should she have been expelled?

People like this (criminals) shouldn’t be allowed In private schools.

😂 OMG I am never leaving this place 🤣

Thoseslippers · 25/01/2026 06:16

This has to be a wind up? Absolute rage bait.
No one real would think this.

Caughtletren · 25/01/2026 06:18

Imagine having someone like @KindOpalBear in your life?

Shudder

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 25/01/2026 06:27

Yes, this is definitely real.

Meadowfinch · 25/01/2026 06:30

Don't be absurd OP. You'll make yourself even more ridiculous than your post.

A child is not responsible for the acts of the father, and every child deserves and is entitled to an education.

Do you honestly imagine that, given the price of private education, the child is the only one with questionable finance for their school fees. Have you checked the provenance of the fees all those generous grandparents contribute.

And do you also think that none of the high flying parents you chat with in the car park have ever indulged in a line of cocaine or a joint.

Don't be so naive. And if you are foolish enough to say something, don't be surprised when you are the one who ends up ostracised for such an act of small minded spite against a child.

This seriously made me laugh. Private schools are full of the children of criminals. One of the few people I know who went to private school was the son of a convicted bank robber. He wouldn't have been able to afford the fees otherwise.

SouthernNights59 · 25/01/2026 06:37

No, you shouldn't inform anyone. Don't be so bloody ridiculous! If it bothers you that much move your child.

Lobbygobbler · 25/01/2026 06:38

You should listen to the Desert Island Discs episode with Carol Klein. She had to leave her private school when they found out (quite possibly thanks to a parent like you) that her dad had been sent to prison. She talks about the shame she experienced as an innocent girl. It was devastating for her.

If the boasting was coming from the pupil themselves and affecting relationships/behaviour in school, I'd take a dim view of it at the least.

Just the parents boasting? I don't see why the child should be tarred with the same brush.

(I know it's usually more nuanced, but you get the jist...).

GreenWheat · 25/01/2026 06:45

So how is it you know this information but nobody else does?

Laughing my socks off at the "criminals shouldn't be allowed in private schools" comment 🤣😂 When you pay to avoid some "undesirable" sections of society they're just replaced by a different type of undesirables.

Newsenmum · 25/01/2026 06:49

Pretty sure the school would know? You can tell the school but dont expect much to happen.

cloudtree · 25/01/2026 06:50

The child isn’t a criminal.

There are lots of dodgy parents at my DCs school, One parent is on the board of governors and is a massive coke head and has very dodgy dealings in a business she owns with her husband overseas.

TeeBee · 25/01/2026 06:50

Fuck me, this is why private schools can be terrible. I’d hate for my children to be brought up around attitudes like yours OP; I want so much better than that for them. Hideous lack of humanity.

User0311 · 25/01/2026 06:53

I feel sorry for the child in all of this. You are being SO unreasonable

bluewhitebluewhite · 25/01/2026 07:08

Quite right. What a disgrace. The local comp is the proper place for the criminal classes.
do you have a hangover this morning @KindOpalBear?

strawberrybubblegum · 25/01/2026 07:09

If you're serious, then just think for a minute. Obviously there are plenty of private school students with family problems and difficulties. Humans are messy and complicated: that's no different anywhere.

The school will be trying to support the child - looking out for risks to them and dealing with fall out of parenting failures - just as a state school would be. If you have information which is recent and not in the public domain, you could let them know discreetly to help with that.

If the family bring large amounts of current drama and risk to the school, then they probably will act to protect other students. That is a difference from state school. But the bar would be pretty high, and your input certainly wouldn't be needed.

KindOpalBear · 25/01/2026 02:59

The crime wasn’t violent. The crime didn’t involve children. No one died.

I have extended family who were imprisoned for white collar crime. One of them sent all of their children to private school. They never existed experienced anyone as nasty as you.

Barrellturn · 25/01/2026 07:12

Surely criminal backgrounds are far more prevalent in private school parents than state school. No one is affording private school through 'working hard'. It's either drug lording or profiting off the backs of others' hard work for a few generations. It's ok though. It sets them up nicely for a career in politics or finance.
