I found out today that our much wanted baby has Down’s syndrome. I am going to have a termination after considering the impact on our existing children and our ages- 42 and 40. I’m heartbroken and I think I’m going to need quite a while off work to recover emotionally and from the procedure. AIBU? Title edited by MNHQ

Just updating. I’ve been up and down. Today is a down day. I’m meant to be going back to work next week but I just don’t feel ready. I feel terribly anxious.

Thinking of you OP. If you're not ready to go back to work, don't. You've got to put yourself first. It really hasn't been very long and it will take time to fully process everything.

Sending love.

@Iusedtobedontcall do give your doctor a call and get signed off for longer if you don’t feel ready. I have a stressful client facing job and my emotional resilience was so low after my TFMR, I knew I couldn’t handle clients getting shirty with me etc. So even though I only had 2 weeks off, I had a sort of phased return to work where I didn’t do client facing stuff for a few more weeks until I felt up to it. It’s so so important to look after yourself at this time.

Thank you - I’ve decided to take 2 weeks and then go back. It’s very intense and I’m just not ready.
