Hiya,

Just thought it might be nice to start a thread for those of us due in May 2010. I know its only early days but I followed one of these whilst being pg with DS1 and it was invaluable.

Couldn't find one for my dates this time round (might be wrong?) so thought it would be nice to get together, share stories and follow the progress with some others in the same time-period.

I'm due 6/7 May I think. Didn't really plan to have such a short gap between DS1 and DC2 but also didn't do much to prevent it. (IYSWIM!)

Have started feeling nauseous already(!) which I can't believe as I didn't have it nearly as early as this last time round. No sickness last time and a very enjoyable pregnancy - so am hoping for the same again this time round. Slight disaster with giving birth 2 weeks early with no hospital notes or hospital bag, two hours from home and at a family funeral...(!) So am going to stay AT HOME near the end this time round. Really looking forward to giving birth again. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience last time and looking forward to hearing other peoples stories and sharing our pg's together!

fedupofthisnausea whats pregnancy sniffles?
Ive had a cold for about 4 weeks now, sometimes it seems to subside and other days I feel like I am really coming down with something.
IIs this normal in pregnancy? I never had it before?

fedupofthisnausea · 24/09/2009 18:45

Yes - sound pretty normal, i haven't had it longer than about 3-4 weeks personally but i know some have it for months unfortunately.

Apparently pregnancy can make your mucus membranes to swell, so if you catch a cold it can make it tough to shift which is why it sticks around for ages. I think just the swelling makes your nose feel blocked though, without the other symptoms. I feel for you as i had it first time around. I am really hoping i don't get it this time, hence the at least one glass of OJ for me a day if i can.

I hope you get better soon!

Hi All,

This is a great thread, I'm excited to exchange our adventures of being pregnant together, it's always nice to talk to people who understand whats going on physically and mentally with us lol I'm a mother of a 17 month old boy and expecting number 2 May 15th my DR appointment is on Monday not to sure whats going to happen this pregnancy is soooo different from the first....My first pregnancy I misscarried then was pregnant with my son, while pregnant with my son I had 9 scans from 6weeks to 7months and so far for the second pregnancy I haven't had anything yet....Just praying for a healthy pregnancy ;)

First1- I was congested and sick with my son in my first trimester and I use to close the bathroom door wrap myself in a towel, steam the room with hot water and read a magazine (DR suggested a good steam to get rid of the stuffyness) not to mention it was relaxing almost like a SPA ;)

kcoffin27 · 25/09/2009 10:36

Hi im also due in may, due on the 5th. I had an early scan last week and was shwing as 6 weeks and 3 days with a strong heartbeat. This is pregnancy number 8 however only had 2 succesful my sons are 9 and 6. Got another scan today. nice to see so many on here.

Vicky204 · 25/09/2009 12:16

KateM77 - I've seen the book on Amazon and am going to buy it, I've bought a couple from a charity shop, all recent books, great place to get them without forking out loadsa cash. Definitely will order it now - thanks

As for pregnancy sniffles, I'm glad someone brought that up, I find I'm having to blow my nose every morning and occasionally thoughout the day, and was wondering where it suddenly came from as I have no other cold symptons - pregnancy sniffles it is then

first1 · 25/09/2009 14:10

PHEW! Had early scan today and measured 6+4 with strong heartbeat. Its like the biggest sense of relief ever! But now added to the sniffles, I have a painful wisdom tooth popping through, and its not nice not being able to take anything for it!

fedupofthisnausea · 25/09/2009 14:33

Oooh i had my first dr's appt which done nothing apart from check my blood pressure

Have been told it'll be about 3 weeks till i hear from the midwife- talk about slow progress i thought like my first time round they'd at least get the doppler out for a listen.

I am glad you are all getting early scans though. I know its a big relief to see all is ok and not be left in limbo.

first1 - you do know that it is fine to take plain paracetamol while you are pregnant? It's ok as long as it's not mixed with anything else like decongestant or caffiene (so parecetamol plus and lemsip are out of the question - no asprin either)

fedupofthisnausea · 25/09/2009 14:37

first1 - so EDD 17/05/10 then? If so, same day as me...nice to share a due date with someone.

first1 · 25/09/2009 15:35

fedupofthisnausea hey! yeh it looks like im due on the 17th too! I thought I was a few days further along but scan said otherwise! My first doc appointment was just a blood pressure check too, quite frustrating isnt it! I'm seeing the midwife for the first time at 9 weeks. Have you had your booking letter yet? I though for the first 12 weeks you should avoid taking any painkillers?

fedupofthisnausea · 25/09/2009 16:33

No, no booking letter yet

I was told by mother-in-law who is a head midwife that plain painkillers are ok - but then again it might be best to call your dr to double check, or nhs direct - they don't mind.

I'm sure i asked dr with my first pregnancy and was told it was fine as long as you don't take them everyday but just when you really need them as i had horrible growing pains in the first few months where the uterus stretches felt just like period pains so i spent alot of the time paranoid something was going wrong but apparently it's quite normal. Paracetamol helped somewhat. Starting to feel them again this time round too

That's why i can't wait for the scan - just to see exactly how far they date me. Mines worked on LMP so it could be a week either way. Forward i hope though and deffinately not back a week.

first1 · 25/09/2009 17:44

I've had a few stretching pains too. They're really intense for about 2minutes but then disappear. Are you going for an early scan then? You'll feel so reassured, though I'm sure everything is just fine thanks for the paracetamol advice! x

mustbemadno3 · 26/09/2009 08:47

'fedupofthisnausea'
thanks for the advice! Im not feeling any better cold wise. But at least I have woken without a headache and not feeling sick!

Went out last night, everybody was drinking and I was on pretend antibiotics for my 'tonsilitus'!!!
If only my headaches were from drinking!

MiniMarmite · 26/09/2009 14:25

Hi All

Just checking in on this thread to say hi. I've decided to keep away generally until my scan though as I'm a bit scared that I'm going to lose this one . Fingers crossed though.

Hope you are all ok.

first1 · 26/09/2009 19:22

whoever came up with the term "morning sickness" was blatently a bloke who just didn't have a clue - it's bloody ALL DAY sickness!!

newmomma · 29/09/2009 10:42

hi ladies
sorry i haven't posted in a while... so much has gone on its too much to try and catch up.
so pleased to see how many newbies have joined - congrats to all of you!
have been on hols for 10 days and have thoroughly enjoyed it (although hols with an 8 month old aren't exactly relaxing!).
am now suffering with regular bouts of nausea (bleurgh) but not much else.
have my booking in appt finally made for next monday (5th?) and think i'm due 8th may.
still stressing about going back to work (when, mainly) and about telling my boss about DC2's existence. doubt there are many bosses who would be pleased about an employee faliing pg while on maternity leave already!
anyhoo... better get on with the mammoth post-holiday clear up task.
lovely to 'meet' all you new ladies!

newmomma welcome back! I also had to tell my bosses when I came back from maternity leave pregnant - they were fine about it (to my face!) but I'm sure weren't thrilled.

I expect they rue the day they ever took me on actually - this will be my fourth set of maternity leave since I joined 6 years ago, albeit that this baby really wasn't planned.....

Luckily, all of the senior partners have children and have been really supportive. In fact I burst into tears on the company owner when I told him and he told me that they would have had four if they could have done, and not to stress about it - it's only work and family is FAR more important.

I am starting to worry that this pg isn't going 100% well, even though I've seen a heartbeat - the nausea has eased off and my boobs have stopped hurting, and my middle hasn't expanded for the last two weeks - in my other pregnancies, I thought I would be in maternity clothes at 12 weeks as I could barely do up my clothes at 8 weeks - I'm now 9+4 and my jeans are falling off me.....I still don't have a date for my scan, but the MW thinks it will be around the middle of October so hopefully only a couple more weeks to wait.....

mustbemadno3 · 29/09/2009 16:19

newmomma
I think im due the same day as you? Think 8th or 9th, but still waiting for my first mw appointment, which has come through for next wednesday. I cant wait as I am getting quite anxious.

Dos anybody know if everybody is entitled to a scan at 12 weeks? I was scanned at 12 weeks with dc1, but not until 20 weeks with my dc2.
I dont think I can wait until 20 weeks, as its been so long since my last pregnancy, and I am more concerned re my age!

newmomma · 30/09/2009 09:43

mustbemadno3 i'm pretty sure everyone gets a scan at 12 weeks - but i suppose it may depend which area you're in as to whether the doctors/hospital in your area allow it... it can't hurt to ask.

cool - we're due date buddies. i've not had mine confirmed by the doctor as haven't seen anyone yet - but this is my 2nd baby and they'll only calculate my due date from my last period like before. they didn't change my due date at scans or anything. looking forward to having the 12 week scan tho - its such an amazing experience!

panicmode - hope you're doing well and not still worrying about things? try not to stress. i'm sure every pregnancy is different so try and keep calm - its only a couple of weeks until your scan and fingers crossed they will be able to quash any fears you've got. thinking of you.

xx

Hi newmomma

I'm still stressing (about everything , but trying to be rational - my scan is on the 20th October (just got the letter today) so that's something to look forward to - although I wish it was the week earlier.....

LolaAnn · 30/09/2009 13:35

Hi everyone!! I think I'm due in may.. long story but I had PCOS and as such really irregular cycles, I wasn't keeping track and thought it had been a rather long time since my last period (4 months) and was shocked to see a positive!! I always thought I would need help to concieve. So yeah I am waiting on my dating scan at the moment.... please some one call me soon haha!!

brightredballoon · 30/09/2009 22:43

Hi Everyone

Just incase you didn't know there is also a Due in May2010 thread in the antenatal club section. Its very busy and has lots of members - come and say hi!

first1 · 02/10/2009 09:36

Is anyone else getting sickness completely out of the blue?? One second I'll be fine, the next I'm running to the bathroom. I don't seem to get the nausea first, or if I do it barely gives me any warning.

KateM77 · 03/10/2009 11:45

Had my booking appointment yesterday....all starting to feel a bit more real now, but still can't wait for my scan in a few weeks.

Coping a lot better with the constant queasiness now - just eating A LOT! The exhaustion is harder to deal with though. Not sleeping very well at all and by the end of a week at work I'm dead on my feet. Planning to spend the weekend doing very little and sleeping as much as possible!

Hope you're all doing OK. Sorry to hear about the unexpected vomiting first1

alys78 · 04/10/2009 10:46

Hi, I'm due in may 2010, 3rd baby but having some bleeding at the moment so quite scared. Having a scan at the EPU on tuesday.

Sophie2008 · 04/10/2009 19:17

Hi,

I am also due in May around the 14th if I make the full 40 weeks, as i am expecting TWINS!! I already have a DD1 who will be 21 months when they both arrive so will have three under the age of 2.

To top it off we just ordered a new car (before we found out i was pregnant), which we now realise will not take three child seats, but found the answer after many searches on the net with a system called Multimac. The man who designed it came round today to show us and is so fab. will def be getting one of them soon. Keeps Hubby happy that he does not need to cancel the car he has wanted for ages.

It'd be great to share this journey with you all, i am feeling very sick at the mo and can't eat much, but my chemist has recoomended sea bands for travel sickeness and has been known to help with pregnancy, and so far so good. I have managed to eat quite a bit today.
