Hiya,

Just thought it might be nice to start a thread for those of us due in May 2010. I know its only early days but I followed one of these whilst being pg with DS1 and it was invaluable.

Couldn't find one for my dates this time round (might be wrong?) so thought it would be nice to get together, share stories and follow the progress with some others in the same time-period.

I'm due 6/7 May I think. Didn't really plan to have such a short gap between DS1 and DC2 but also didn't do much to prevent it. (IYSWIM!)

Have started feeling nauseous already(!) which I can't believe as I didn't have it nearly as early as this last time round. No sickness last time and a very enjoyable pregnancy - so am hoping for the same again this time round. Slight disaster with giving birth 2 weeks early with no hospital notes or hospital bag, two hours from home and at a family funeral...(!) So am going to stay AT HOME near the end this time round. Really looking forward to giving birth again. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience last time and looking forward to hearing other peoples stories and sharing our pg's together!

Ladies,

Did anyone else, like me, get pregnant on the first month off the pill? If so, how can you be sure of your dates having not had a "natural period" for a while? Doc calculated 40 weeks as if it was a normal cycle, making my dd 15th May and now 6+2 weeks. But I'm not convinced! I'm sure it cant be that far off? Got an early scan on Friday, will that help clear things up?! Sorry girls, it's my first baby, confused!

Vicky204 · 22/09/2009 15:54

First1

I didn't get pregnant first month off pill but since I've come off it my periods have ranged from 19 day cycle to 32 day cycle, so I've really no idea where I am. I'm taking it as a 28 day cycle which means I'm 6 weeks and due 18th May. However I won't really know until first scan which isn't going to be until weeks 12-14 I was told today!

Was quite disappointed with Dr's today they didn't really tell me or advise me on anything, literally gave me prescription exemption form and told me the dates/weeks I'd have scans and see nurse, told not to come back to GP until week 24!!!

So equally confused - first one also.

Vicky204 · 22/09/2009 15:55

Ps - First1 how did you get early scan? I've got to wait till week 12-14 seems a lifetime away!

PanicMode · 22/09/2009 16:01

Vicky204 - don't you have to have a booking in appt with a midwife? Does your GP book your scan? I would have thought that you would have to see a MW before 24 weeks, especially with your first baby as they have to do bloods etc.

Dodgybint · 22/09/2009 16:41

Hello,

I'm due first week of May too!

It's my first and I haven't a clue what I'm supposed to be doing (apart from getting fit/flexible, eating healthily, developing a taste for classical music (someone mentioned it's supposed to make your kids brainy??), taking vitamins, avoiding coffee and just generally being virtuous...hmmm...)

Saw the GP two weeks ago and she said I'd be 'getting letters' - nothing yet...

I've been feeling absolutely knackered and nauseous for the last two weeks; thank god for ginger and understanding female bosses!

It's lovely to see there's others out there in the same boat - it does seem like a lifetime away!

Vicky204 · 22/09/2009 16:55

Hi panicmode

I saw the GP for the first time today, she said i'd be having first scan and bloods etc somewhere around week 12-14 so I'll be getting a lett confirming that.

If I have any problems bleeding etc I'm to go to EPU at local hospital, I won't have a midwife until week 12, then I have my next scan at 20, and then go back to GP at 24 weeks for shared care until week 40.

It's just I see some people are getting early scans weeks'6 or 8 etc, and wondered if they're all private of if that's something you should be offered. Week 12 seems so far away.

dodgybint - your letters are probably in the post - with these postal strikes I'm finding lots of very late mail coming through and it's taking a week and half for some letters to reach me.

Dodgybint · 22/09/2009 17:05

I hadn't thought of that...come to think of it we haven't had any post for a while now.

Thanks!

Vicky204 - One of the nurses I work with - I'm in an NHS policy team - told me (after I'd sworn her to secrecy) that 12 weeks is the norm. Apparently they usually only do scans earlier if the mother has pre-existing conditions or has had problems in previous pregnancies.

Hope that helps.

DB

Vicky204 · 22/09/2009 17:10

Ahh that does put my mind at ease some, I guess I'm just impatient (along with every other mother to be) and want to know everything is alright as soon as I can.
I guess I'll just look after myself and count the days......only 42 more to go, till I see my bean!

SecretSlattern · 22/09/2009 17:29

Hello, can I join in too?

I am unexpectedly pg with DC3. Found out last thurs. Think I am due around 21st May.

I have a DD who is 5 and a DS who is 15 months. I've just returned to uni after taking a year out when DS was born . I will have been pg for both my second and third years lol.

I'm not sure I feel ready for a third as it wasn't in the plan. I'm worried about lots of things and nervous about how DH and I will cope. Neither of us are thrilled atm but we have accepted we are having another one and I am hoping that over time, I will start to get excited.

I haven't really done anything except 2 tests. I need to get it confirmed by the GP before anything else happens.

I tried to join an antenatal thread when pg with DS but felt a bit pushed out as couldn't post very often. Everybody seemed to know each other and I felt a bit out of the loop so stopped trying to join in.

Anyway, enough misery! Congrats to all of you due in May. DS was due in May and I ended up having him in June. Both he and DD were 11/12 days late so this one could either be very late May or early June!

first1 · 22/09/2009 18:04

vicky204 I'm having an early scan privately just out of choice hun at 6.5 weeks. Then got MW appointment at 9.5 weeks and NHS scan at 12 weeks. Think the timing is different depending on primary care trust

first1 · 22/09/2009 18:08

oh PS congrats! Nice to have another first timer to get through this with

first1 · 22/09/2009 18:12

secretslattern WELCOME! and Congrats on numero 3! x

Jayfer · 22/09/2009 19:04

Hey!
Just seen this thread, can I join too? I'm due end of April beginning of May not really sure yet. I'm 9 and a half weeks pregnant with my first and had my booking appointment today. I also have rhuematoid arthritis so I'm having lots of fun liasing between the rheumy dept and the midwives.
It doesn't feel very real still - is that normal? I've had nausea most days but its controllable with continuous eating and only been sick once. Other than that I've not had many symptoms.
I keep expecting the doctors to ring to say they've made a mistake, although now I've got my maternity folder. Its all a bit odd!!
Jen

Jayfer · 22/09/2009 19:08

Oh, I also became pregnant less than one month off the pill so have no idea about my cycle. Can't wait for the 12-14wk scan as it feels like I've been waiting forever!

GiPi1 · 22/09/2009 21:15

Hi Panic - think we might be in the same boat (as well as due on the same date!!) This pg totally unplanned - my ds is 7 and dd is 5, and honestly didn't think I would have any more !! Sounds horrible I know, but the thought of having another one scares me to bits (even though I have already done it twice!!) this time, though, am totally on my own as partner has "disappeared" !! Also I have just got a new puppy - planned before I found out I was preggers !!! Luckily for me I have not got any sickness, am quite tired and have got this blasted bleeding - but apart from that I am doing quite well considering.

Have you got any other children??? I hope you feel much better VERY soon !!! xx

vicky204 I had an early scan booked through my GP at 6 weeks and then another through calling the midwife because I am bleeding quite alot. I had not been booked in when I phoned the midwife, but your GP should have given you the telephone number of the midwife - if not phone the surgery and ask them for the telephone number - give her a ring and she should be able to advise you and, if necessary, arrange an early scan for you !! I thought that most "booking in" appointments were at around 8 weeks because bloods etc need to be taken, and the nuchal scan needs to be arranged which HAS to be done between 12-14 weeks, as well as bloods for downs etc - I understood that these had to be done within a specific time period in order to obtain accurate results ??? If I would you I would give them a ring just to be sure - it is worrying enough being preggers without having to worry about whether scans & bloods are being done at the right time - good luck !! x

PanicMode · 23/09/2009 09:04

Hi GiPi

I have a 5 yo, a 4 yo and an 18 month old, so this will be number 4. I am scaring myself with how negative I am feeling -but perhaps that's because I am feeling SO totally rotten ALL the time so it's not helping me feel warm and fuzzy about it. I still haven't managed to get hold of the counselling people, but have left another message....

I keep bursting into tears - poor DH had to get me on an even keel on the train into work yesterday, and everyone keeps saying "you'll be fine, it'll all be fine" - but I don't feel as though it's going to be at the moment, I'm just feeling numb and sick!

You sound as though you have as full on a household as me, but I'm sorry to hear that your DP isn't around - that must make things harder. I would be in complete pieces without my fantastic DH trying to make me be positive about it all!

Duritzfan · 23/09/2009 13:39

Its so nice to see a few of you int he same boat as me - having a third with a big gap !
I have a scan on Monday - will be 7 plus 3 then - have forgotten everything since I was successfully pregnant last time ( 10 years ago !)

Lovely to "meet" you all

Vicky204 · 23/09/2009 15:44

Thanks for the info Gipi, I did think the Dr might be a bit more informative than they were. When I told my partner he said is that all, and couldn't quite believe it either. When it's the first time you only have places like this to go to, thankfully I have couple of friend who've had babies too, although most of them haven't. I just haven't told anyone yet, as I think it's too soon, might have to tell couple of people though!
I'll call Drs next week to find out about mid wife booking in appointment as that wasn't even mentioned!

Thanks again!
x

fedupofthisnausea · 23/09/2009 18:40

Woowee! Please can i join! I am 6 wks 3days so very early on - have known for about 10 days.

Due date 17th May 2010 - another May baby as our dd (3yrs) was born on the 27th so i think for us it must be something about concieving in August as we did last time. Have been trying for about 8 months so hoping all goes to plan. Hate the fact we have found out so early this time though as i never used to keep track of Aunt Flow before TTC.

Good luck to all - hope you all get through with as few bad symptoms as poss - however do remember that sickness actually means a nice healthy pregnancy 99.9% of the time

fedupofthisnausea · 23/09/2009 18:48

Lol, i have read the classical music thing making kids brainy is nonsense but funnily enough i have succumbed to liking a bit of soft classical music - it's very soothing so that's good enough for me Soothing for babes too when they are young

I have been offered my first apt on friday - i'll be 6wks5 so i thought it was a bit early for a booking in - i was just enquiring in the surgery and as soon as i said i have found out i'm preg she said she'll book in asap and didn't bother asking how far i was/thought i was Never mind, i'll be glad for the chat/check up.

secretweapon · 23/09/2009 19:03

Hello all - mind if I join too? I'm 5+5 (though TBH I'm not sure what that means) with my first and due mid-May. Really excited but somehow it doesn't feel "real" yet, if that makes sense? (Although I have to pee non-stop and my skin is broken out like never before!!)

Congratulations to everyone!

KateM77 · 23/09/2009 19:31

Vicky204 It's my first time too. Have found the book "Your pregnancy bible" by Dr Anne Deans very useful. Tells you all about when your booking appointment and scan will be and what to expect when you're there.

My Dr. gave me the midwife's number, called midwife and then got appointment dates through the post. Booking appt at 9weeks and scan at 12 and a half. Your dr. sounds a bit rubbish - give them a call for midwife number

claireyfairey1975 · 23/09/2009 23:06

Hello everyone
Can I join in too?
Am currently six weeks pregnant and had a very early scan on monday after two sucessive miscarriages. All seems well although too early to see a heartbeat. Have to go back in a fortnight. We are not telling family or friends so it is nice to come o here and be able to vent. I have two children 8 & 6.
Feel sick and boobs are massive, exited but very anxious and nervous.
Look forward to chatting to you all
Claire x

Does anyone have suggestions for a non-medicinal cure for the common cold? Very nervous about scan tomorrow, reassurance please!!

fedupofthisnausea · 24/09/2009 17:27

First1 - i'd personally say orange juice - Lots of it - just make sure it is pure and not from concentrate. Big vit C boost.

It works for me if i am in the first day or two of a cold, Or if my little one has picked up a cold from nursery i usually dose up on it and if i do i never catch it from her. If i don't dose up i'm gauranteed to catch it

But not everyone can get on with OJ while they are pregnant.

But come to think about it are you sure it's not just pregnancy sniffles, because if it is i'm not sure if anything works - they allways seem permanent untill bubba is born
