Blimey dawn just read that Wikipedia link and he's got 5 kids. He's certainly been around. I wonder if he'd like number 6 with me ?

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 17/07/2009 15:59

hahaha dawntigga cor he's a prolific breeder!
jw I reckon my FIL's sister had a lucky escape, she went out with him for a number of years !

johnworf · 17/07/2009 16:07

hehe JJ just chuckling at your (freudian?) typo? I'm sure Mr Vine won't mind

ermintrude I do remember your crush but had forgotten about it. Do we have to form an orderly queue on here for him? I didn't realise he was 49 (although it makes sense). He doesn't look bad on it.

JJ I don't mind our Doblo really. It's just getting a bit old and shabby (like myself) and I'm just hankering for new car-ness I guess. No chance at the mo. All changes afoot with DH's business. He making me a director (not exactly of the ICI magnitude) and I think there'll be a parting with his business partner. We need to make sure we'll be covered so car is off the agenda....for now at least.

dawn thanks for the scone tip. Mine always come out rock hard to that might be just what is needed!

I'm not gonna panic about the swine flu. It's bad enough in the media. I heard on the radio today that Sir Liam Donaldson said that the deaths will be somewhere between 3,000 - 65,000. Sounds like think of a number to me but I digress. He also said that he didn't want it to be reported as 'there WOULD be 65,000 deaths', which of course that is exactly how it's been reported. Anyway, I've bought extra this week for the nuclear bunker and am in Costco on Sunday to pick up b'day cake so will get supplies. Just saves me shopping.

K seems a bit more perkier today. She's just been doing the cute baby sitting dance to the Countdown music. BBL.

erm - yes been on for a CS ever since the growth scan at 36 weeks predicted it was already 8 1/2 pounds!!! So resigned myself. They said if it came early we could do a short trial of labour but I didn't hold my breath.

If anyone wants a recipe for Gorgeous Scones I have one I can root out ... is made with lemonade and cream and no weighing, rubbing in or messing - just mix in a bowl and cut... Brilliant if surprise visitors are coming. You can keep a pot of Elmlea and a can of Sprite in the fridge and have them on the table in 20 mins!!!

Lemonade and Cream Scones
2 cups SR flour
¼ cup sugar
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup cream
½ cup and 2 tbsp lemonade

Oven = really hot = gas 9 / 220oC

place dry ingredients in a bowl (fork the flour so light before measuring then spoon into cup and level off).
Toss dry ingredients together, add cream and lemonade and mix to make sof t dough.
Scrape sides of bowl and add extra flour to make it turn out.
Kneed dough lightly 6 times then pat or roll until 2 cm thick and twice as long as is wide.
Cut in half lengthways and in four crosswise.
Put on a tray (close for soft, apart for crusty), brush with milk.
Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Scoff!

Tee2072 · 17/07/2009 16:36

Yup, my boy is having a sleepy day...woke at 9 for bottle. Fell back to sleep. Woke up at 2 for bottle. Fell back to sleep. I'm sure he'll be up all night, while Mummy has night watch!!

iris I hope you're okay. I'm right there with you on the tired and miserable.

mrsb and did he enjoy the taste of the bronzer? Perhaps he was experimenting with an eye to be coming a cosmetics czar in the future?

JW I get a flu jab due to my diabetes. What I am wondering about the SF jab is who the heck are they testing it on? They are rushing it through awfully quick...

I had to look up who Jeremy Vine was...I am sure I'll be on board with all these middle of the day BBC people by the end of the year!

Who knew Morten was such a breeder! I do think he's lovely.

bonzo good luck with the CS. And those scones look lovely! Another thing I've never made in my life. I'm just not a baker, but I guess I could become one over the next year...

johnworf · 17/07/2009 16:47

tee by the time A is a year old, you'll be many things you weren't in your former life. Believe me.

Shiney!

Tabitha8 · 17/07/2009 17:59

I've just made a new thread resolution - to keep up. It's all this feeding. It takes forever. Benjamin is constantly at the milk bar.
Might try to make those scones as well. I've even printed the recipe, so cheers, Bonzo.

mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 18:16

yes that looks interesting bonzo might give them a go

Tee2072 · 17/07/2009 18:25

I'm sure I will JW!!!

ermintrude13 · 17/07/2009 19:55

That recipe sounds bonkers Bonzo so I shall certainly give it a go. Is it single or double cream? tee, don't US recipes call double 'heavy' cream? I love my standard scone recipe so the standard has been set... It reminds me of a really good muffin recipe using any flavoured yoghurt, and the yoghurt pot was the measuring cup so v economical on equipment - must dig that out from some dark corner.

Re growth scans - the June thread was full of massive over-estimations from those scans - 8lb at 35 wks, 6lb 10oz at birth etc. So you never know, you might plop out a modest sized baby yet. And I can vouch for the possibility of 10lb and no damage, although that was admittedly my 3rd. And, fortunately, last .

Tee2072 · 17/07/2009 19:58

Yes they do, erm. Never heard of double cream until I moved here!

jeanjeannie · 17/07/2009 20:13

OOooo - duchesse see you in pendant's corner You remind me of Brian Sewell...in the classic episode of Have I got News for You, where he lets Paul Merton rant on about there being "less hedgehogs" and then, about 5 mins later, while something completely different is happening, he just pipes up "FEWER hedgehogs" Laugh? I could barely breathe!!

tee a former life...? Nah - just this one now!

tab yes, come on keep up and tell us how the gorgeous Benjamin is doing.

bonzo sounds fab - you star

Off to M&S - see you later

mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 20:43

oooh yes ermintrude the recipe please - I would like to make muffins for my wee man!

I'm a rubbish baker me, only thing I do well is sponge puddings. mmm.. lemon sponge pud - haven't made it once this year on account of dieting.

johnworf · 17/07/2009 20:52

I wondered what the random shiney was about. Now I've had to go back through the posts and now it all is clear.

Blimey.

The only scones I make that my kids love are cheese ones. Can this recipe be adapted?

OP posts:
johnworf · 17/07/2009 20:52

Apols. One too many 'now' in my last post. That'll teach me to post without previewing. Doh!

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 20:54

right, I did think about going back through the posts but I have a small child yelling in my lughole.

pray tell me the meaning of the shiney?

jeanjeannie · 17/07/2009 21:12

mrsB I think duchesse was coming in there with a spot of sub-editing! Shiney or shiny? I believe she was correcting jw. Gawd, I preview so little these days....where's the time? And yes, where the heck is the spellcheck? In fact - two LOs has rendered my grammar bottom of the class - I mean the whole semi-colon thing has all but gone!

God it's like late autumn out there. Just went ot get some biccies for tomorrow....wet? WET?! You bet.

mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 21:15

cheers jj

yeah it is not v summery at all.

mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 21:18

jw how is Miss K this evening? keep meaning to ask.

hedgepig · 17/07/2009 21:31

evening, pls excuse the following rant

argggggggg FLIES whre do they all come from? Regardless of how may I spalt they still keep popping up, I haven't even had the windows open today cos it so wet.

right glad I got that off my chest.

Had a busy day, playgroup this morning, end of term church service (amazing no lightening bolts were sent down from on high as I entered the church) and then a friend came around for a coffee and then dragged the boys to Tesco and then it was bed time phew I am exhausted, heaven only knows how I will manage when I go back to work.

Bonzo scone recipe looks yummy, I have lemonade but only sour cream do you think they would work if I thinned the sour cream with a bit of milk?

johnworf · 17/07/2009 21:51

Wasn't me that wrote 'shiny'. It was bonzo re her new car. And I believe that 'shiny' is indeed the correct spelling, not 'shiney'...well, in the context that she used it anyway.

K is in her cot and every 5 minutes or so, you'll hear an ear shattering scream come over the monitor. Then a coughing fit. Then silence. It's as the GP said; once she lies down, the snot goes down her throat and the coughing commences. Nowt we can do apart form carry on doing what we're doing. She's completely knackered though. Her eyes have that red rimmed look which is a combination of coughing and tiredness. I'm hoping she'll have a better night tonight.

hedgepig. Flies. Hmm. No idea where they're from. All our northern flies have gone away. Praps they've flown south for the summer. Mebbe they're all on holiday in your house

OP posts:
hedgepig · 17/07/2009 22:00

bloody feels like it JW my DH (mega fly swatter) is away tonight so I'm having to type, eat jaffa cakes and swat flies at the same time ...talk about multi tasking.

Sorry K isn't feeling so brill, would she sleep if you held her? maybe it would stop her getting so over tired.

mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 22:01

yeah, we have only the one small fly ourselves here all week.

you definitely going back then hedgepig? I'm sure they will be most pleased to see you

earth shattering screams? that's a new one

D is still up, doing his new hand crawl across the floor. is very giddy.

mrsboogie · 17/07/2009 22:03

you could try propping her up on a pillow in the cot jw?
