Morning all.

Husband and baby still asleep. I'm enjoying the quiet!

Sorry about your bad night hedgepig.

Hepa definitely equals costs more money! Not sure it actually does anything, though.

Everyone have a great day!

johnworf · 19/07/2009 08:52

Morning all. Back after after an evenings absence due to sick o'plenty. I think we had the getting worse before getting better night. She coughed so much and finally puked up loads of cattarghy milk (over me, naturally). Anyhoo, after a wake up call at 4am for milk which DH sorted out, she seems much brighter today and is tucking into some breakfast of breadsticks and yoghurt.

hegepig and floria sorry to hear your night wasn't great. When are these kids gonna get the hang of sleeping....at night?!

floria sounds like the guy with cellulitis has got it severely. Lordy. Mine cleared up within 3 weeks with anti-b's the size suitable for a horse. Strangely enough, FiL has had it on his leg for months now and no one seems very concerned in the care home. Mind you, he is diabetic and it's very common for diabetics to get it, especially in their legs due to poor circulation. Hope your DH's colleague is back on his feet very soon.

I can't believe how wet it is here today. It's really bouncing down. I've going to pick up DS#2 this morning and pick up his b'day cake. He's actually 18 on Tuesday. I still think of him as my baby as he was for many, many years. Very strange him being all grown up. I guess once his b'day has come and gone, then I sit back and wait for DSS's and K's....I'll be so old when they're grown up.

So much for the new toy I bought K y'day...she's playing with the plastic hangers that came with some tops I bought

Morning ladies.

Just flicked through the posts. hedgepig and floria sorry about the bad night. Hope you can relax a bit today. We were kept awake by and hour of wailing cats

jw pleased K is much better and playing with the hangers! Poor thing.

Off to the Henley sheepdg trial.... The weather doesn't look promising but we're going out anyway.

Must go - being hassled by DP to get off the laptop...GGrrrrrr xxx

BonzoDoodah · 19/07/2009 09:29

Morning all. Sorry for all those who slept badly. (Usuall night of turning and loo trips for me).

Thanks for all the hints on places to go ... and now I'm going to ignore them (for now). Found TheChestnutCentre which is closer than the other places - plus has otters so is No1 in the country (according to DH).

Florida gosh at friends poor husband and the saga with the car - nightmare!

jw The honey for coughs is a good one - sure K is old enough now to take it BUT you could try chocolate instead. Works for me.

M is being a winging little git this morning. Reason? ... I am daring to use one of her chairs as a footrest while on the computer. Every time she sees my foot on it she runs over (from playing happily) and screams at me and says "my chair". Grrrrrr plus she's suddenly stopped sharing properly when other childern come round to play. She used to play really well but has started being possessive and snatching eveything off the other child. And this before the baby arrives .. great! Is this an age thing? (23 months)??? Or because she has changed room at nursery recently? Help! Can do without this sort of behaviour to build on with the new baby.

johnworf · 19/07/2009 10:00

bonzo I'd say your DD's behaviour is praps a combination of factors. Yep to moving up at nursery. Yep, to new baby on the way. Have you changed her bedroom recently? All you can do is reassure her that she's still your little princess and the baby isn't going to usurp that crown I bought presents for all of my older children from the baby. Obviously when they were little! Mind you by the time I had DS#2 and bought one for DD#1 aged 5 she'd worked out that babies cannot go to the shops and pick up gifts. Smart arse.

Glad you found somewhere with otters. Very cute.

Has anyone seen this ridiculous news in the papers today that women should delay having babies with the SF situation? I think it's outrageous. Talk about big brother. The papers are really reporting this badly and scaring everyone. Madness.

JJ enjoy your (wet) sheepdog trials. I bet those dogs will need a bath later today (ewww @ wet dog smell).

Who was it talking about The Street y'day? Yes I've seen a couple. Great stuff indeed.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 19/07/2009 10:09

I had heard about that JW. And I agree its ridiculous. Of course, I think all the SF reporting is ridiculous. Freedom of the Press is important. But scaremongering is bad reporting.

dawntigga · 19/07/2009 10:15

JW the best vacumn in the world imnsho is a Kirby. They cost and they are heavy but man do they work! If you bought the full kit new it would cost about 3000 but it will turn your bath into a jacuzzi and trim your hedges (not that kind of hedge!). You can get the vacumn MUCH cheaper on ebay.

Boo for all who had bad nights! me included

Hurrah for the bickles who are getting better

Oooohhh, Bonzo it's cos it's the home of Ferodo really. DP wants to visit the factory.

mrsboogie · 19/07/2009 11:53

mornin all

not a bad night here - just the one early morning pitstop then woke at 9am to Mr D standing in his cot and telling us to get up.

Re the SF and ttc - I don't think it is ridiculous to hold off for a couple of months until we see how it goes. I know common or garden flu is worse but you stand a pretty good chance of not getting that - I think I have probably had it once in my life despite years of tube travelling etc. SF is potentially spreading much wider and faster so you stand a greater chance of getting that and I would not like to be ill and pregnant when the hospitals and surgeries are chocca with it, or healthy and pregnant and having antenatal apps in these places and worrying about catching it. So waiting a few months until you've either had it, been vaccinated or until it has peaked seems only sensible to me if only in terms of having an easier life.

Not that we need the media to tell us that.

There will probably be tumbleweed rolling though the maternity wards in ten months time!!

hedgepig · 19/07/2009 12:05

that's better DH and I have taken it in turns to have a lie in he had the 1st one and I have just had a snooze for an hr and a half, I feel a bit more human.

Bonzo she will get over it, I'm sure it is a phase, but maybe hide the chair in a cupboard to stop her being so stroppy now (but then you haven't got anything to put your feet on ).

JJ thanks heavens K is feeling better, the sick is yukkk but "better out than in" as my Grandma would say.

Those of you with older boys would you say that it is unusual for a nearly 6yr old to be having lots of wee accidents? At least 1 or 2 a day, B never sees to have got the the whole going to the toilet t I just keep hoping as he gets older it will click but it doesn't seem to be. He just does not seem aware even when you can smell wee on his pants. . I don't think it is an infection because he always been like this.

iris66 · 19/07/2009 14:17

Ahhh - just had lovely roast - courtesy of DH and v nice glass of red wine to boot (hope N doesn't mind!)

dawntigga - I've heard great things about kirby however the heavy vibration system it uses to shift dirt apparently ruins the carpet and disintegrates the underlay

jw HEPA filter is an allergy filter to standards approved by Allergy UK et al (removes pollen/ pet dander and "stuff")

I love my raycop - small, powerful and you can see the stuff it picks up - even through sheets! My first one broke and, even though i didn't have the receipt, the ladies at the factory sent me a new one. It's made such a big difference to DS1's nights even though we have mattress/pillow protectors and vacuum every day. love it!

I totally agree that the media hype re SF is getting stupid. There were apparently only 5 symptoms originally (7 revealed to GPs) so some kind of filter was in place for hypochondriacs. Now they've revealed all symptoms and aren't even swabbing people - just handing out scripts to anyone saying they have the symptoms! Shocking!!!

hedgepig - I've heard it's harder for boys than girls to get the whole "oh I'm wet" thing. That said - i was diagnosed with a "spastic bladder" as a child (niiiice) it was a case of "ooh, ooh, I need a wee... damn I've been already..no matter, let's just pretend it's not happened" days and nights until I was 10/11 ish (embarassment made me take notice more)

Bonzo - DS2 (21mths) started asking for the toilet "Poo!" and "weeeee" about 2 weeks before I had N. We thought seriously about potty training but deceided against. Neeedless to say he's not said it once since having her (phew) I think they just try to panic you before hand.

Off to sit and "rest" (whatever that is!)

iris66 · 19/07/2009 15:00

PS.....you know you're awash with hormones when.... you cry at Toy Story 2 - for no apparent reason! mrsb I am very of you!

johnworf · 19/07/2009 15:19

iris I still cry at toy story. And the Lion King

Did I mention that when the on-call doctor rang me back on Thursday night he immediately offered K Tamiflu? She doesn't even fecking have it! DH was appalled that they're handing it out so freely. He was on the phone to the doctor saying 'no, no. she doesn't need it. Yes, you are correct. I am refusing to pick it up'. Madness.

Instead of saying that pregnant women shouldn't be getting pregnant and scaring those who have just found out they are, they should be putting in place some fall back plans for when the whole infrastructure falls down around about October/November. There'll be a whole portion of the country either off sick or pretending to have it.

iris I saw the Raycop in Costco today. It was £103 inc vat. Cheapest I've seen so far. Didn't buy one as it's still very dear and I would have to submit at least 4 sides of A4 (in small joined up writing) to DH to say why I needed it I'll just go and get my quill.....

OP posts:
jeanjeannie · 19/07/2009 15:43

Hello all we're back and windswept but saw lots of sheep and dogs

Vacuum cleaners...OOoooo, I LOVE my Miele....adore it.....it's the nuts

bonzo here - have my sympathy....Iris is being just like your M...it's driving me nuts. EVERYthing is "MINE" ...or "NO, NOT yours" and then I hear Verity wail and Iris is just dragging a toy off her shouting "Say sorry Verity, that's mine, not yours" It's a hard old slog.

hedgepig don't know if it's reassurance or depressing but my mate's lad is almost 8 and sounds like B - almost seems too pre-occupied and then just pees and forgets to say anything - it's driving her mad. He is a bright spark though and it's as though going to the loo is too much hassle...could be that he's just too focused on other things. Mind you - I've no practical advice I'm afraid as toilet training here is non-existant again

Gosh, the whole flu thing has become SO confusing. I see there are a few folk on MN with it saying that it's not as bad as they thought and they didn't realise they had it Think the government are handling it really badly - being really woolley - it's just free reign for the press to go nuts.

Blimey - i see it's autumn already

johnworf · 19/07/2009 15:48

Looks out of the window to see if it really is autumn. Oh yes. So it is

I think you ladies with possessive youngsters will find they'll soon outgrow it. It really is a phase....just wait until the more insidious phases start...like being sick in a sock drawer and leaving it to fester. Or never changing your underpants for weeks. Thankfully, most of these do get outgrown. Most that it.

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 19/07/2009 16:38

It's vile here and we haven't been out although I think the wee man is missing his fresh air. Chucking it own though so the swings would be no fun.

I am making raspberry and white chocolate muffins after all the talk the other day and OMG they smell effing delicious!! No idea what they will taste like as I made up my own recipe...

ermintrude13 · 19/07/2009 16:40

in haste, between looking at new second-hand cars, going to washout of a bbq for DD's footie team and now awaiting visitors.

DH sent me something from his i-Phone to demonstrate how useful it is - have uploaded it to my photos.

Tee2072 · 19/07/2009 16:45

Afternoon all.

I think the real issue with SF is all of the conflicting information.

I ave bare floors all through my flat and a Dyson.

mrsb I'll be right there for a muffin.

Its been a niceish day here.

johnworf · 19/07/2009 16:51

hehe ermintrude is that your little A? How creative of your DH.

tee we've got bare floors through most of the house too apart from dining room, stairs and 2 bedrooms. Great for keeping clean.

mrsb awww save me one. I've already had a costco muffin today but I'm sure there's a bit of space I can find to squeeze yours in

A bbq? Today? ermintrude are you mad?

OP posts:
johnworf · 19/07/2009 16:58

Right, expecting the locusts to arrive fairly soonish for DS#2's b'day tea. We're not going out and instead, having the world famous (ok, maybe not world) Armstrong's fish n chips. I will not be having a portion myself as it's about a million calories. But we have a football pitch b'day cake - it really is a football pitch, I'll post the pics - with candles for the b'day boy himself.

I've just ordered him a Google phone on contract for next umpteen years. You never get rid of the buggers. They just cost more.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 19/07/2009 17:38

erm yup, very useful.

A has finally settled after another full day of not sleeping when put down. Hey, I actually get to take a shower and eat some dinner!!!

JW Happy Birthday to DS2! Enjoy having the family home.

jeanjeannie · 19/07/2009 18:20

Hahahah jw just told DP those last couple of sentances - he thought that was hilarious! Have a lovely b;day tea - hope DS2 is thrilled with his Google phone (what the heck is one of them? emoticon!] Shame you're not partaking of the fish..sounds divine - like a fishy equivalent of Slatterys

erm LOVE the pic - so that's what iphones are for! BBQ... are you sure?! What car is taking your fancy then??

mrsB how are the muffins? Cor, one of those would go down a treat right now.

DP's sis is coming over with her BF and a Kentucky....Oooo, someone stop me. That's the weight back on

mrsboogie · 19/07/2009 18:33

muffins were fab!! YUMMY. am well chuffed although probably won't be able to make them again as I kind of made it up as I went using that sponge cake four and substituting some of the eggs for extra yoghurt.

washed out barbies, second hand cars and whiney babies sounds positively riveting compared to what we have been doing today- trying to deflea the house again... After the cat (or The Host as he shall heretofore be known) had every known method of chemical treatment injected and thrown over him he is still riddled. We think he is breeding some Alien race of SuperFleas

Ruined the sofa with the steam cleaner too. Ah well, excuse for a new one...

BonzoDoodah · 19/07/2009 19:03

jj infuriating with the "mine" all the time isn't it. And iris - weird because M has also started asking to do "wee on potty" or "wee on toilet" but once put on does nothing. Now think that is to do with the new nursery room - she's with the 2-3 year olds now so they will be toilet training.
Not changed anything else in M's routine yet apart from going up to the next nursery room a month early and we did that early so it was done before baby arrived. And don't think she knows the implications of baby arriving so can't see that being it. But from all of you sounds like it's an age thing and we're stuck with it (sister just called round and agreed that it is a very long phase [sighs].

Well the Chestnut Centre was fab! A million types of otter and owl and the little creatures were running round in and out of the water and being very cute (plus polecats and pine martins and foxes and wild cats). Shame about it absolutely lashing it down all day - but we took wellies and waterproofs so it rolled off us. Not sure all that walking up and down hills is good for me at 39 weeks. Taking it easy tonight.

MrsB pass the muffins - I could monster some of those - sound gorgeous! (Love the name The Host).

Dawn ... Ferodo? You've lost me.

dawntigga · 19/07/2009 19:14

Ferodo are the main employers around Chapel, they make brakes for cars
