M6 southbound = nightmare from hell avoid at all costs around Warrington and Knutsford! Came back through Stretton and that to was evil. M56 as I passed over it was a carpark and the A49 was the same due to the M56 so I went through Northwich which was a breeze

neddie glad to hear all is well with babies! You must be so excited for Monday.

I totally missed the time/date thing. Guess I'm not as bit of a geek as I thought I was!

johnworf · 07/08/2009 19:01

Just uploading vid I made today. Nothing special just K and her daddy at the park. Really trying out the new cam I bought the other day and see how it fares. I guess it'll be on FB soon if all goes well

dawntigga I'd never go that way unless it was the dead of night. It's notorious around that M6/M56 link. EEp!

K bathed and bed early tonight. I think this hot weather coupled with perambulations around the park and seeing the animals has wiped her out. Curry night for us methinks.

Cor, I really feel like a cold beer or a glass of red tonight. It's really been one of those weeks. I guess that diet pepsi will have to do instead. Nice, but not the same.

neddie I can nod at everything you say about the bone idleness of the youth today. It's our fault though.......

Evening ladies.
Has anyone ever taken a baby on a plane (short flight to Europe)? Was it a complete nightmare or easy peasy?

johnworf · 07/08/2009 20:04

Hmmm baby on a plane? Sounds worse than snakes on a plane....

Hey all

Had friends up from London with their gorgeous 10 month old - and bags of his lovely clothes for Arthur, hurrah!

JW I think those ceiling projectors are something LOs either love or hate. We have stars like JJ and my older 2 cooed at them happily so maybe K would prefer them.

JJ best of luck, mate! Actually, not bad forecasts so you should get sunshine

And heron sounds like a lovely way to spend an evening; enjoy.

Neddie good news about your boy tin's fluids. Of course you should have help with the horses, you've enough to be doing without getting out the currycomb too!

As for lazy DC, I'm so sick of the way DS will just play with his DS or stare at the telly or the pc while DD does MSN Messenger whilst texting that I've banned all screens every afternoon of the hols. Made them walk to the shops for some basic provisions (including butter, sugar and condensed milk, as I have a fudge craving which hits me about twice a year) then they played board games, then swimming and then helping with making tea/holding baby. All harmonious and pleasant, so I've let them watch a DVD before bedtime. Takes some effort but sooo much nicer than letting them stare at screens like zombies.

Tabitha I took DD to Edinburgh on a plane when she was 4 months old and to the Gambia (about 6 hrs I think) at 8 months old. Fine on all 4 flights as she just breastfed almost all the time, so her eustachian tubes were open and both take-off and landing gave her no problem (unlike me - I need to equalise my ear pressure on the way down and it really hurts). We took the sling or baby rucksack to carry her during all the moments we didn't have access to the buggy. Where are you off to?

BonzoDoodah · 07/08/2009 23:38

Eeek been busy with preparing for M's party and then having it and then exhausted and then in bed at 9:30 yesterday!! So taken me a while to catch up!

Neddie good luck with the tins - hope they are thin and pointy and well oiled!

Dawntigga if you are a fabric stasher you NEED to go to my friend?s shop in the Cranage (which I think is near you ? Cheshire_needlecraft she sells stuff for patchworking and runs fab, cheap workshops.

Mum41 gorgeous little chocolate faces! (and love those shoes)

duchesse - Omg about hubby - hope he?s ok

MrsB lauhing at the ?Flea Charriot?

jw sorry the mut is gawn. Sad day. Loved The Life of Pi ? let me know what you think of it ? I?m ¾ the way through the Time Traveller?s Wife ? snivel. Know now why my friends banned me from reading it when preggers.

erm gorgeous dress and cardi!

heron I have the ikea highchair - it?s super! Cheap, comfortable and VERY easy to clean (most important) and is easy to take apart and stick in the car if you?re going anywhere. Highly recommend it.

Tabitha we took DD on a plane to Norway for Christmas at 5 months - was a doddle! Much easier than taking a toddler. Anything particular you?re worried about?

BonzoDoodah · 07/08/2009 23:49

So M's party was a success! 12 sprogs ran riot round the garden in glorious sunshine (thank goodness). There was no fighting and they all ate their sandwiches and played really nicely. M loved her caterpillar cake and being the centre of attention. A friend came early and helped with the sandwiches and when they all went home we sat and chilled in the sunshine. Bliss.
M LOVED her presents from us - a 6 foot soft toy crocodile from Ikea (now called Snapper), a Pingu DVD, an UpsyDaisy Toothbrush and holder, a toy camera and a watering can. I can honestly say she was delighted by each thing ... [v happy mummy face].

What is not so bliss is baby G's feeding habits. Having boasted his 4-5 hour sleeps (oh dear) he fed yesterday evening for 3 hours and I fell asleep on the sofa with him at 9:30 and was forced to bed by DH. Glad I was as G then woke at 2:15am , 4:30 and 6:45 for 20 minute feeds. He then fed pretty much constantly from 9:30am til 1 and then from 6 til 10pm. I can't take much more of this. He feeds then falls asleep, then wakes screaming in his cot and the only thing that will stop him crying is more boob. Then he falls asleep and it goes round again. Any clues anyone?? [desperate face]

Just wondering if the antibiotics I'm on (metranidazole) could be affecting him? Last ones tomorrow - phew!

Good morning all.

Typical night with LO. Up at 2 and then at 4:30. Right now he's sound asleep in his bouncy chair. In laws are coming to stay the night so lots to do!

bonzo glad M's party went so well!

I don't know how you feel about pacifiers, but have you considered one for him? I think sometimes Adam asks for food in a ridiculously short amount of time from last feed and I pop the pacifier in his mouth an viola. No more screaming baby. I think they like the comfort of suck more than they need a full tummy at times, if you see what I mean.

johnworf · 08/08/2009 10:13

tee I think dummies can interfere with BF but not sure.

Have fun with the in laws! Yikes.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 08/08/2009 10:27

JW I've heard that too, but only if BF isn't well established first.

Tabitha8 · 08/08/2009 10:48

Hoping to go to Portugal if we can find a dog sitter. Was wondering how to make sure B's ears are ok on take-off and landing but I had heard that bf helps them a lot.

BonzoDoodah · 08/08/2009 11:13

Thanks for the links jw - I did a search too now and seems it's okay they think. I'll just be glad to be off them.

Tee snap!!! I was up at 2 and 4:30 ... or was it 4? All I know is I wasn't back to sleep until gone 6 and then he whinged some more. Shattered. Fortunately hubby winded him and rocked him until he went back to sleep and I had a bit of a lie-in.
I gave DD a dummy at 3 weeks after a mammoth 3 hour feed without stopping (as opposed to the on/off that G does). I am going to get a dummy for G but the breastfeeding councilor said don't do it til 4 weeks as their epiglotis is too far forwards and it can interfer with their throat and make them choke - eek!

Tee2072 · 08/08/2009 11:23

Well bonzo all I know is that Adam, was given a dummy at about 3days old by the SCBU staff to try and calm him down. His breathing was so bad they were afraid if they fed him, even down a tube, that he'd choke, so he was getting nutrition through an IV. But his tummy was so empty he was hysterical about that. So they gave him a dummy to see if it would calm him, so he'd breath a bit better, and it worked!!

BonzoDoodah · 08/08/2009 11:33

that's good to know. Hubby going off on a mission to get one ASAP!

ermintrude13 · 08/08/2009 12:33

Bonzo yay for a successful party - and for DD enjoying her little stash of carefully-chosen presents

The mad feeding is all part of it with some babies, I think. DD was crazy in the time my milk came in and for a few weeks thereafter - feeding was all she could think of doing and she'd be almost whimpering whilst hanging on to the nipple for hours and then sicking or spitting it all up. I just did what she wanted - first baby syndrome - and it was quite a hard time. I'm a bit stricter with A when he gets into that kind of mood (DS1 was a much more businesslike feeder) and if I'm sure he's fed well and is starting to get a bit hysterical I try to distract him - easy when you've DH or other DC around who can hold him and talk to him but hard work on your own. But rocking him, changing the holding position etc. can let him forget about milk and calm down - even go to sleep, which is often what he needs anyway.

When G starts being able to do more - focus on objects, smile at people, wave rattles, generally become more settled - the milk madness will recede.

Tee have a good time with your ILs.

Ordered a brown pinstripe suit from Ebay for DS1 to wear to my sis's wedding in Sept and it's fab - clearly cheap material when you touch it, all polyester, but cut well and looks lovely on. He's just becoming fussy about what he wears and my sis suggested a 'Dr Who' suit so he was insistent. Now we have to get Converse trainers to wear with it.

dawntigga · 08/08/2009 13:05

Bonzo Robin has just read that post over my shoulder - his is not a happy face

Sam slept through to 0540 today this will not last methinks as teething looks like it's around the corner!

FloriaTosca · 08/08/2009 13:12

Hi All! I'm home
Had a lovely relaxing time out of contact by mobile (unless we walked miles to get reception..dh did... I didn't)or interweb. The Lake District was beautiful,... the caravan was not... I'm somewhat miffed that the co-owners of our static home want us to fork out for new carpets (when we have only used it twice in the last 5 years) as the carpets would be just fine with a proper steam cleaning (wouldn't even need that if people just used the vac!), when the settee foam is now so rock hard with over use you bum goes numb after 5 mins and decent matresses on the beds would make the place much more comfortable and be a better use of the money!...but in general the hol was lovely and I highly recommend the South Lakes Animal Park for a day out if you are ever up there and like feeding wallabies, kangaroos and giraffes and fending lemurs off your picnic.

just scanned through the last couple of pages

Tab We flew with A just before he was 7 months...3 flights out;manchester-frankfurt-jo'burgh-durban, during our stay we flew durban-capetown and back and then the 3 flights home...by flight #2 A had got the hang of latching on to me on landing and by flight #4 was asleep as soon as the engines started up... we aren't flying this year because he is mobile and a monster we can't afford it.

JW sorry you needed to lose Spud

Neddie glad the tins, esp your little lad, are fine...not long to go now then..

Heron day off sounds heavenly! oh and I also second the Ikea high chair, cheap, stable, easy clean/store/pack...what more could you want?

dh demanding help in the garden...we are hoping the second set of drains will have finally done the trick so we can turf at last....I'm already sick of a sea of soil.

johnworf · 08/08/2009 15:22

Afternoon all. Been doing nothing and mucho iykwim. Been nowhere but on catch up in the house/garden.

floria lovely to have you back dear. You have been missed. At least you've had a change of scene and it does actually count as a holiday

Yes, I'm really missing the dog. I keep expecting to hear his claws on the floor or him barking at the postman I think people who aren't doggy people or don't have pets don't get what I'm on about so I'll shut my yap.

No children this weekend - apart from K. All busy doing other things so I have a day of rest on Sunday (as if!!!) I was thinking if the day is nice we can go somewhere not populated too much, like Delamere Forest, for a wander and a picnic. Wait and see what weatherman says later today.

I've not even bought a newspaper today, seen any tv (today or last night), or even had the radio on. I dunno where the day has gone to.

floria my DH is also doing things with turf. No idea what but he has a bag of compost with him and he's been quiet for a while. Sounds like a job well done.

Off to read my book (oh, now I'm back into the reading groove I know where my day/last evening went to. Bliss!)
