What first alerted you to the fact you were pregnant. Was it the missing period, or did something else trigger the "hmmmmm, what if" feeling???

Deep blue veins suddenly visible in (very pale) breasts - just like in the Robert Browning thing of the Bishop ordering his tomb. I noticed it with dd (who was a 'surprise') - and it was a very oh, oh, I get it, moment.

Bink · 03/01/2009 19:46

PS dd is my second - so I was recognising it from my (not very long since, at that point) pregnancy with ds

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 03/01/2009 19:48

My first sign was nausea - I felt really nauseous during a meal out at about 2.5 weeks and it just got worse. Got a BFP at 4 weeks.

chefswife · 03/01/2009 20:25

DH knew right away when i declined to have morning coffee.

Seriya · 03/01/2009 20:30

Ballooning boobs.

Remember walking down the street in a fairly tight T-shirt noticing I was getting quite a few stares. Back home a quick check in the mirror confirmed I was practically falling out of my bra. This was just about as my period was due.

MrsDoylesMole · 03/01/2009 20:32

When i got pregnant the 1st time with dd1 i only knew because i had the strangest pains and flips in my tummy and yet i was only about 5 weeks at the time.I even used a slendertone machine and was unable to feel a thing even when it was on high which i thought was odd.I bled on/off throughout so didn't even miss a period and had no other symptoms.

With dd2 i missed my period and had every symptom imaginable.

loobyt · 03/01/2009 20:45

Def. sore boobs for me.

tiredandgrumpy · 03/01/2009 21:00

dh suspected before I did - he reckoned my skin smelt different. He noticed the same thing second time round, too. This was only about a week after implantation.

ohdearwhatamess · 03/01/2009 21:09

couldn't drink coffee - normally can't get going until I've had 2 cups

baltimore97 · 03/01/2009 21:21

With DD1 and DD2 had some implantation cramping, went off booze and had a very heightened sense of smell and taste. All this kicked in a few days before missed AF, which is extremely regular so by the third day without bleeding I was sure I was pregnant.

I tried a new conditioner and thought, great I finally have found a hair product that works. A couple of weeks later, the true reason for lustrous locks became apparent. Five years later, I am still looking for a hair product that works. Maybe one day they will find a way to bottle that hormone and someone will make a lot of money!

pinkypanther · 04/01/2009 10:03

Sore boobs - started popping out of my bras and couldn't sleep on my stomach like usual! Also, had to take the spare meat off a turkey carcass and was practically gagging - that was when I knew. Tested positive the next day...

tribpot · 04/01/2009 10:22

I think the first symptom was completely miscalculating what time I needed to leave home to get a flight to Copenhagen. Cue frantic phone calls to Norwich Airport begging to be allowed on the plane about 6 mins before it was due to take off.

Next was really struggling to walk a mile or so to work, couldn't understand that as I'd done loads of walking previously.

Then nearly gagged in the fish counter of a supermarket.

Then had to take a day off work due to what passed for only moderate alcohol consumption on my project in Sweden!

Cicatrice · 04/01/2009 11:41

Coffee tasted horrible. Couldn't understand how DH could drink it.

newmumtobe84 · 04/01/2009 14:24

Everything smelling disgusting! Particularly the cocoa butter moisturiser I use (still can't stand the smell now at 27 weeks!)

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 04/01/2009 14:28

very very sensitive boobs about a week before period was due
smell of everything drove me mad
and with hindsight and 2nd pregnancy knowledge my hearing went very very sensitive.

Fizzfiend · 04/01/2009 16:27

A really big blue vein appearing from my nipple diagonally across my left boob. Somehow I just knew!

fustilarian · 04/01/2009 18:20

My sister bought me a mooncup for my birthday. 2 1/2 months later, she said, 'how's the mooncup?', and I blithely said, 'Oh, I haven't had my period yet', followed by a deathly silence and my sudden realisation that I was feeling knackered and sick and hadn't even noticed- was too busy looking after DD.

JingleJools · 04/01/2009 18:22

My nipples went extremely hot for a few hours, and two days later, I was giving a presentation and they started feeling really odd - I can only describe it as "fizzing" !! Very disconcerting - I was convinced everyone could see something going on !!

Eilatan · 04/01/2009 18:45

off booze despite trying! cold and tired all the time, dizzy and erm.... a sharp pain up the bum!

treacletart · 04/01/2009 18:51

metal taste in my mouth and the cat stopped avoiding me - she only ever likes me when I'm up the duff.

sickofthisrain · 04/01/2009 19:31

Boobs spilling out of bra within 2 days of getting pg - how?!

Instant dislike of coffee and garlic. The garlic one was a nightmare throughout pregnancy, I could walk into a shop and tell if someone in there had had garlic. DH even had to sleep in a different room if he'd had it at any point during the day..

Period like pains - a dull ache - implantation pains I guess!

I knew straightaway with both - almost no need to take the test tbh.

apollo11 · 04/01/2009 20:36

bigger tits

NorktasticNinja · 04/01/2009 20:37

Extreme thirst, especially at night.

Crazycatlady · 04/01/2009 20:38

Nothing of note at all until AF was due, but had the following in the day or so before I did a test (CD 27/28):

  • Complete inability to run on the treadmill in the gym - could typically do an hour straight, but really struggled beyond 10 minutes and wondered what was up. Got really emotional and cried on the way home from the gym!
  • Bought a salmon and cream cheese bagel, usually my favourite treat, took one bite and didn't fancy the rest
  • Started to feel a little sick when I got over-hungry
  • AF pains on CD27 which then went away

None of these really made me suspect I was pregnant though, although I wasn't expecting to be! It was only lack of AF and husband bullying me to buy a test that made me think.

'Proper' undeniable pregnancy symptoms didn't start for a week or so after I tested, then it was full on 24/7 nausea, exhaustion and sore boobs!
