What first alerted you to the fact you were pregnant. Was it the missing period, or did something else trigger the "hmmmmm, what if" feeling???

With DS: was on skiing holiday and was unusually tired every evening, kept going to bed early. Went off red wine. Cried when we got a UK paper with story that Camerons had lost their eldest son. Constipated all week. Kept thinking it was all down to mild altitude sickness until we got home and I began to put two and two together...!

With DD: we were moving house and DH kept telling me that was why I was unusually tired, but this time I suspected what was really really happening...2 days later had to leave the room holding my nose when DS did a poo and the smell was overpowering. No surprise when I tested positive!

Sore, swollen boobs REALLY early on

Crying over everything, especially when it was kids being 'cute' on telly (normally I'm repulsed by this kind of propaganda!)

Went off alcohol and body violently rejected it anyway

The first thing I noticed this time other than tingly boobs was my baby brain. Poached an egg instead of soft boiling, filled DS2's bottle up and put it back in the cupboard instead of the fridge. It was the thing that made me want to POAS.

mine was the +ve pg test before period due

followed closely by extream tiredness...
and the morning sickness kicked on, which became hyperemisis

localcrackpot · 01/03/2011 21:13

BFP this morning. :)

In retrospect, it makes sense of my crazed cleaning and baking all last week. Also I'm not normally drawn to housewifey looks but managed to spend lots of cash on goods from Cath Kidston and Emma Bridgewater - haha! I'm usually more of a rock chick... I've been drawn towards anything pink. I avoid pink. So I'm connecting the two.

Tingly boobs and being able to smell a gnat's fart at 100 paces Grin

Had a day when my nipples felt like they were burning before my period, then got a funny taste in my mouth, though I thought I was getting a cold. Then decided 6 days after my period hadn't shown to do a test, even though I'd been getting cramps. And ta da!! My dh guessed before too, mainly cos I wasn't my usual level of grumpy-pmt-ness :o

emily82 · 09/03/2011 13:09

With my DD, who is due in 10 weeks time, mine was - rather grimly - leaky boobs. My period was due the following day but needless to say on spying this revelation I skipped off to the chemist and lo and behold, two pink lines! Whether or not they kicked into action in an initial hormone burst, I don't know, but it lasted a week or so and it's yet to return :o

With my DS it was absolute fatigue. And waking up at 4 in the morning RAVENOUS.

Memsahib · 09/03/2011 23:04

crazy dizziness which I put down to a virus - about a week after conception. DH rather smugly figured it out and a preg test on the first day of missed period confirmed it!

banana87 · 09/03/2011 23:23

Totally and completely went off all sweet foods and on to savoury ones.

Bumpsadaisie · 29/03/2011 14:03

Very sore boobs and the clinch was that old metallic taste in the mouth (from about day AF due).

Quickly followed by ravenous hunger, which lasted till MS kicked in at about 6 weeks.

G1nger · 29/03/2011 14:14

I decided a few days before I did the test that I thought I was pregnant - not just thought I might be, but thought I was. My boobs hurt more than usual, but it was the fact that my nipples got bigger that swung it. By the time my period was due, I also had a lot of small pains in my lower belly (uterus) - and two days after I did my test (one day after my period was due) OH MY GOD I had horrible pain after an orgasm. Thankfully, this went away after a week or so (a week of abstinence, may I add).

LadyOfTheManor · 30/03/2011 18:26

I just got my BFP yesterday for dc2. My period was only 2 days late before I did the test, but I have felt a bit crampy and a bit achey in my pelvis area...I'm guessing that's implantation pains?!

With ds I had the same uncomfortable pain in my tummy, then did a home test!

Followed by sickness, off smoking and meat. (I could also smell garlic from miles away!).

Asinine · 30/03/2011 18:30

Hypersensitive smell, so could smell dog poo at 500 yds, and flowers with florist smell.

Louiseteacher30 · 17/04/2011 19:17

awful water infection feeling without the need to go to the loo lots, bit odd.
Also fell asleep on DP whilst watching a horror film and then again a couple of hrs later, er well, in bed Blush Hence we werent really talking when I got BFP!!

Lizziefinch · 23/04/2011 19:21

metallic taste in mouth, then no symptoms then after the pg test I developed breathlessness, HORRIBLE sickness, and pretty much everything else on the list. I always thought I'd be delighted to have morning sickness because it would mean I was pregnant. OMG it really is not glamorous at all, neither is the sudden drop in confidence, wanting to hibernate... have never felt so sick for so long. Can't believe now how smug pg women in films/ on TV always are. I mean for a start they are dressed and at work, how is that possible??! And they always stroke their tummies smugly/ fondly, with a faraway look in their eye. If I ever stop vomiting I plan to try it!

Lizziefinch · 23/04/2011 19:27

Oh yeah I had recurrent cystitis that was the first thing, and when I got urine tested it was clear, so no antibiotics needed was just my bladder being temperamental. There's a pregnancy iPhone app I got that turns out to be a Victorian book for pregnant women, it's hilarious, anyway it was in there that one of the symptoms listed was 'disturbances in urination'. If you get this and the situation isn't urgent, I'd get urine tested before taking antibiotics, although I'm sure you're better off taking the doctor's advice than mine! Just worth knowing it might just be bladder weirdness (mine settled down after a coupe of weeks and always calmed down if I sipped warm water slowly for a few hours).

Lizziefinch · 23/04/2011 19:28

Oh yes hypersensitive to smell too. I kept thinking people must have literally bathed in strong cheap perfume in order to smell that bad. Would definitely have preferred the smell if they hadn't washed at all. Chemical smells intolerable.

ginmakesitallok · 23/04/2011 19:32

Smell thing here too

MummytobeLizz · 07/05/2011 18:23

Strange cramps different from period pains. Nausea and tiredness.

Also, felt different - I know that sounds daft, especially as I wasn't actively 'trying' to conceive... definitely felt pregnant... did a test a week later and was 2-3 weeks...

MrsSarahJones · 07/05/2011 19:40

A small glass of wine that made me feel really drunk just before I was due on.

MeconiumHappens · 25/08/2011 21:03

Just got my bfp. Heartburn, like that acidy feeling you get if you have an accidental mini sick in mouth, and burping like mad. Atractive ;)

MeconiumHappens · 25/08/2011 21:04

oops ancient thread, sorry!

cluckypoo · 25/08/2011 21:07

Sore boobs, very tired, felt sick and lack of period!

PamBeesly · 25/08/2011 21:25

Going off the foods I used to love, spicy foods, all meat and eggs, craving oranges and ice lollies
