ashleighbee, I feel the same - had a scan last Saturday and decided to have another a fortnight later (in just over a week). It's worth it for the reassurance it offers...

mermaid, how are you?

VJay, keeping up with you on our other thread; know that I'm thinking of you.

valz, hope you're doing OK.

Not posting much at the moment as I'm feeling too sick and exhausted!

ashleighbeee · 15/01/2009 14:55

Hi Villagemum you were 7 weeks on 10th Jan right?? Well I was 7+4 on 10th too and went for scan! Only 4 days ahead of you.. Only had my scan yesterday because of a little bleeding! Am going for one next Saturday too... 9+4 so we'll be floating around in the same boat! I dont know when i'll be offered NHS scan.. love my little private scanning clinic nothing like the EPU i was subjected to in last pregnancy...

valz · 15/01/2009 15:33

Fozzie78 · 15/01/2009 16:02

Hi napa im 6+5 today so you're a day ahead of me.
valz your scan next week is a day before mine, ive been getting twinges too, I never felt them with my last 2 mmcs so im trying to think of them as positive signs.
ashleighbeee I asked my doctor subject to everything going ok next wed if I could have a scan at 10 and 12 weeks for reassurance but he said scans can pose a risk so its best I just have the 12 weeks one, not sure how true this is tho???
villagemum i feel the same, im so sickly over the last few days and im so tired I could sleep all day. I dont mind as long as babe is okay.

Take care everyone xx

ashleighbeee · 15/01/2009 16:24

Hi Fozzie!! I am really hoping that isnt the case, i spoke to the scanning lady and she reassured me that i could come as often as i liked especially if i had any worries and that no scan has been linked to m/c not even internal ones as they dont even get close enough to the cervix.. However I am def going to check this with my Dr when i FINALLY book in! Again.. does anyone know when i should be doing this by? Am just so nervous to go! I am feeling sick a lot at the moment.. and very tired/grumpy! Also concentrating at work is very.. very.. very difficult!

Maz32 bloody men!! haha!! 20 weeks is SO soon congratulations for getting so far bean will be v.big by then! maybe a new nickname may be in order!! x

Fozzie78 · 15/01/2009 16:36

hi ashleighbeee i've never heard of this before at all until he mentioned it so I only half believed him and thought he was maybe just trying to put me off (NHS = saving money), Im going to mention it at my scan next wednesday.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 15/01/2009 17:08

Hi, can I come and hang out here? I'm newly pregnant - about 6-8 weeks I think but probably for the first time in years I lost track before xmas and don't know when my last period was. . I had a self-resolving ectopic in 2003 followed by a miscarriage a few months later. I then went on to have two lovely girls, dd1 is 4 and dd2 is 2 and was born at 35 weeks and has cerebral palsy.

I have been trying to keep calm but am terrified that something is wrong this time and have to wait until Tuesday for my first scan - at least hopefully they'll be able to establish that the baby has made it to the right place. I want to have the scan but have some traumatic memories of being scanned and being told 'there is no pregnancy, look, just debris' . Let's hope I don't get the same sonographer this time.

Any tips for keeping calm till Tuesday? I'm already losing sleep and have turned into a snappy miserable cow .

ashleighbeee · 15/01/2009 17:28

Hangingbellyofbabylon You're definitely in the right place.. I have only been here a few days my self but already everyone is being so supportive and I feel more confident just chatting on here.. We all just need to think a lot of positive thoughts! I dont know how you can keep calm until Tuesday - unfortunately due to the nature of this forum i reckon none of us have that ability! we're worriers by nature I think! Tuesday is only 5 sleeps so really only 5 more "snappy miserable cow" days and then you will know whats going on.. 6-8 weeks.. congratulations on your pregnancy xx

Sabs1981 · 15/01/2009 17:39

helo ladies can I join? I had a mmc in sept 08, then waited 3 months before trying again. Just got a BFP in my first cycle! did 2 different tests.AF not due until sat 17th jan. Apart from DH, MN's are the first to know!

Really havent taken it in yet because of my mmc, so scared and worried it might happen again

nice to see some familiar faces on here!

Will book in to see my GP next week and phone EPAU for my 7 week scan...

mermaidspurse · 15/01/2009 17:42

ashleighbeee as soon as I got my scan date for 21st I morphed into pregnant woman from hell.

mermaidspurse · 15/01/2009 17:43

sabs have another congratulations sweetie

napa · 15/01/2009 18:00

congrats sabs and hanging belly and welcome

ashleigh I'd see your dr sooner rather than later, most hospitals are trying to book women before 12 weeks, especially if you want to have a 12 week scan at the hospital. Though if you are going back to Watford check with them as lots of the units round us have direct access, you can refer yourself without GP letter. That's how it works now at my unit anyway.

hope everyone else is ok. nothing to report with me today, but I'm really tired and DH won't be home until after 9 so dinner will be late tonight!!

ashleighbeee · 16/01/2009 10:21

Hi Napa, thanks for the advice! I dont know whether i am coming or going at the moment! I am going to go and see Dr next week.. I know that since the closure of Hemel Maternity and everyone being transferred to Watford its all still a bit sketchy, with Hemel preggos being sent to Hemel for dating scans anywhere after 14 weeks! Apparently not seen by Watford unless emergancy (for the EPU) or until 20 week scan! All very confusing... I am worried about Watford as have heard horror stories from there & my own experience was awful.. But i dont think i am in the area to qualify for Stoke Mandeville! Also Napa, if you dont mind me asking do you know any benefits of going on the private route with a midwife but giving birth at NHS hospital? I hear so many different things! When are you going to have your first scan? I am looking forward to hearing us all progressing to 12 weeks and beyond and sticking together to the gritty end of the 9 months!

Congratulations sabs and welcome.. You're lucky you can phone EPAU directly.. They told me off for doing that during my last miscarriage.. whoops! It just shows the variations throughout the country! I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and hoping you will update us - congrats again on your pregnancy.. and it happening so quickly!

mermaidspurce think i am a bit of a nightmare to be around.. haha not sure how my employer, colleagues & close friends havent guessed yet! ha! I am bursting to talk about it!

Nothing to report here.. feel elated to say i am 8 weeks and 3 days today and only 8 more sleeps until my next scan! x

napa · 16/01/2009 10:54

ashleigh - you can employ an independent midwife to care for you during your pregnancy but they would normally only deliver you at home as they are not employed by the hospital so not insured to care for you there. There may be some independent midwives who are happy to do private antenatal care only. If you are wanting to know the midwife who cares for you in labour on NHS you'd be better looking at a birth centre as the staff are normally quite a small group and you would get to meet them before you go into labour (they often offer classes and meet & greet sessions etc). Maybe look at Edgware Birth Centre if its not too far from you, otherwise I think Watford has a birth centre too. I haven't heard much about Watford recently but I know they have quite a few new managers to try and improve things.

One of the docs is going to scan me next Wed, (7+5). He's being very positive, says its a good thing I haven't had any pain/bleeding, but then again I didn't have any last time either, just mmc on scan.

Wow what a lot of waffle!

Hope everyone else is ok, am enjoying having the day off, though parcelforce woke me at 7.30 with a delivery, DD and I are having a lazy morning and are still in our pj's.

VillageMum · 16/01/2009 11:42

sabs, welcome!

hangingbelly, come and join us - I had a mc last year too and really hope this time round will be plain sailing for all of us.

ashleighbee, I think I'm 8 weeks tomorrow - dating is a bit all over the place as I used to have long cycles, but ovulated a bit early in the cycle in which I conceived, so everyone is confused now! And the 7 weeks scan I had was so fuzzy that they were hesitant to give me a more exact date based on measurements. (It's a long story - high tech scanner broke down just as they were about to scan me and we had to go in search of a functioning but more basic model down the corridor... argh.) Maybe the next scan will be clearer.

Fozzie, I was told that ultrasound carries no risk whatsoever. I checked this out before booking myself in for the extra scans as I'm paranoid enough as it is!

valz, have been feeling soooo sick, but today is a bit better; am relieved but hoping it's just a lull!

napa, enjoy your restful day off!

maz, wow, 18 weeks! I can't even imagine what that must feel like! (had ds too long ago to remember!)

Fozzie78 · 16/01/2009 11:54

Thanks Villagemum, I had a read last nite on the web too and couldnt find any risks for scans, I think I will go private a 10 weeks subject to scan on 21st.

Hey is anyone drinking coffee still? I read that 2 cups a day would be fine??

VJay · 16/01/2009 12:21

Hi I've just had my dating scan through for the 6th Feb, I'm still having spotting on and off so just hope I get there.

fozzie I'm on decaff tea, but can't stand coffee at the moment anyway.

Hi sabs you found us

Hi vm

Fozzie78 · 16/01/2009 12:34

Thanks VJay. Are you not able to get an earlier scan? thats a long time to wait? havent you already had a scan?

joyfuleyes · 16/01/2009 13:35

Just got back from my scan a complete cockup.

I was supposed to have anomaly scan, dopplers & cervical scan which meant I had to see the dr not sonographer but they booked me for a day when the dr was on annual leave . Sonographer said she's try and do it - no luck with the dopplers, then the baby was in a crap position so she couldn't get the anomaly measurements, so she tried the cervical assessment (which was fine). Baby turned a bit so she got a look at the heart & some measurements but couldn't get proper head measurements or a clear look at the brain or spine. From what she saw everything looks okay (baby is at the small end of normal which is what I expected) but I'm going back next Thursday for the doctor to have a go. Didn't find out the sex.

It is really prolonging the agony ... I was hoping for a nice clear 'everything looks good off you go' now I have more worry

Anyway how's this for a leap of faith ...

What a pain about your scan joyful. Similar thing happened to my MIL on Tues (obviously not at the maternity unit). Good news so far on the scan though. Oh and well done for joining the list...

I have started telling people now (as in general people, friends and family already know). They all looked quite shocked when I say I am 22 weeks! LOL

downbutnotout · 16/01/2009 14:03

Hi - welcome to the newbies, it's so nice to see so many new people joining. There will be a lot of knicker-checker's babies this year!

Such a shame that so many of you are experiencing the lottery that is the availability of early scans. My hospital only got an EPU last year but luckily I had a sympathetic GP prior to that who sorted me out with scans a couple of times when I was in despair with what turned out to be mcs. This time I was scanned by the very lovely team at the EPU at 7 and 10 weeks and it helped a lot, as none of the 3 I lost were still growing at ten weeks. So scans are a great help in giving peace of mind, though it does wear off, so feel free to come and air your worries when it does. Also, I had spotting with this pregnancy and ds is fine now!

Still no sign of ds, though I have developed chronic backache - don't know if this means anything. Only 9 days to my EDD!!

downbutnotout · 16/01/2009 14:04

Oh and I was very reluctant to tell people this time, to the extent that a couple of people asked me if this pg was planned! I kept thinking: if only you knew how bloody planned!!
